Hey, he's not getting old! I can look at him and still see that kid...of course when I look in the mirror I am still a kid! He sounds fantastic on this. The girls are perfect! I have driven to so many states to see him. I have been in love with him forever. He helped me find my son after one of his concerts, by accident. I was still there & trying to find a cop. He came out, found a cop, & signed my album. He is a true treasure and one fantastic guy! Thank you!!!
Last year I had the honour to meet Arlo backstage after a show, He played this song on stage and after the gig I said "What was that song you played I havent heard before" He then proceeded to tell me all about the song and even showed me the chords to play it. Its now become my favourite song to play live, I will never forget meeting my hero!
The Good Arlo Voice !!! .....: i love the song in company with the guitarmelody, !!!!!, and without forgetting the fantastic person that Arlo is ...: a real human man !!!!! **********
these great musicians are mere conveyors of music when one compares them to the life this song has had, a long life of it's own. No? Many hats tipped to Arlo and his friends. I love this version, I been listening to all the versions of St.James Infirmary for hundreds of years now, and I believe this song will outlive me, no doubt.
I met Arlo, Joan Baez and Ramblin' Jack Elliot at a concert in Marin about two- months ago. Arlo is such a character and fun. Joan Baez, a complete classy lady and so gracious. Ramblin' Jack just a cool person as well. It was so much fun to see them all together at Arlo's concert.
I like this version because Arlo pays the right respect to what is really a sad story. The big band or rock versions have nothing on this because they somehow overpower or dilute the story with showmanship. Its beautiful, thanks Arlo.
ARLO is SO much to SO many of us! I've been truly Blessed to have met him a number of times [even bought me a drink at a benefit for Sea Turtles, his Mother-in-laws foundation] and to be sure -> ARLO is without a shred of doubt, THE most AUTHENTIC & GENUINE human being I shall EVER meet!!! May Peace continuee to be his protector! Sande Rose
There was a small and quite obscure hospital of that name in South London. Closed in the 1980s and long ago demolished. The famous (former) St. James's Infirmary is in Leeds, now called St. James's University Hospital. It is a major teaching hospital of world renown. This song is obviously not about either of those.
@taxisteve929 totally agreed... He's amazing... and his rapport with the audience and his stories included... the intonations in his voice as well as his guitar... HE knows how to express from the heart... a very REAL person. Genuine. Natural. yep
I saw him perform back in 2007 when I was 12 years old, and this is the song that made me love him. I'm going to see him again in April, and I'm so ridiculously excited.
Just heard him do a great job on this song in Rahway...and the backup singers are fantastic addition!!! Arlo never really got the credit he deserved for a lot of things, his guitar abilities being foremost in my mind.
Someone asked me if i knew this song and realized I should have. Anyway, what better version to listen to than your's. Great song, great arrangement, Thanks.

I named one of my kids after Arlo, he's 42 now. Arlo sounds better now than when he was younger.

The son of a "real" Legend yet a self made man in his own right, the usual brilliant Arlo.

We forget that Arlo is a very good guitarist.
What a WONDERFUL version of this song. The song is excellent anyway, but Arlo makes it perfect! Thank you so much for this version!

St James' Infirmary is in London
arlo maybe gettin old but he's still got soul
Excelent
In 1973 I heard a version of St James Infirmary where the woman was not dead but in a insane asylum. Any one know anything about that one?
You're doing god's work, son.
he is off gold rush :),but good musician indeed.
what about a rustic ol song route 66
Which one, your son or Mr. Guthrie? ;~)
This is the first time I've heard this song with this set of lyrics. It was good, smooth, with a great rhythm.
can anyone post his lyrics?
Great song, great guitar, just took too long to get to the song.
Love his voice on this, as well as the chorus, but not thrilled with his order of lyrics. Then again, there are so many different versions.
