@Tristen, I am continually impressed with your calmness and ease of tight situations. Cheers mate. i have watched allot of other yaht vids and yours are the best out there. No Joke.
Just recently found your channel and am enjoying it very much. Retired after 35 years as an airline Captain and while I don't know that much about yachts, find you to be both clearly experienced and enjoying what you do, and excellent at sharing your experiences. Look forward to see many more. Cheers!
Slow and steady wins the race. It is really impressive to me to watch you handle AWOL with such finesse. Especially from such a tight anchorage. Job well done Tristan
Man, what an incredible video. 1st off. Awesome camera placements and editing. 2nd. That is a scary job coming away from the cats on port and starboard side. 3rd. The amount of engineering & electrical engineering involved in these ships is CRAZY. I can't even imagine what the blue prints look like when it's being built. The electrical engineering is like freakn NASA. I mean, a sensor on every single window that shows open/closed position? The amount of skill it must take to plan out and run the wiring on these yatchs is unreal. I could watch videos like this all day. 1st time I've ever watched one. Thank you for showing what it takes to move a yatch successfully. I'm hooked now.
I just finished my STCW and my day skipper and starting my Yacht masters next week, seeing what I have been taught being used in a real life situation is a great help, thanks 😊
It is very interesting to watch you and crew operate such a large vessel in such tight spaces with such coordinated grace and accuracy. Would expect no less from you all but it is really cool to see it happen. Nice work and congrats to you and crew. You all seem like very respectful fun to know people.
You make it look so easy! Brilliant! Oh, and what a backdrop. Croatia looks amazing. It was almost as if the church bells were ringing for your departure!
Videos like these give an invaluable insight for aspiring yacht captains! Loving the slick formatting and flow the videos have now - Thank you for keeping us with you throughout : P
@@robertstancer4469 Slow IS definitely pro, anyone who manoeuvres a vessel approaching a dock at any speed but slow is despite having all the observation provided by their own eyes and other assigned crew a complete and utter numpty. It doesn't matter how much observation is taking place because the faster you go the less time you have to react to unexpected issues that can crop up . I never was a yachtsman only a lowly harbour pilot.

Very cool stuff. My friend worked on a privately owned Feadship...The Seneca...for 7yrs...docked in Stuart Fl...sometimes Ft.Pierce.When owner wasn't on board I was able to stay on it for weeks at a time.I loved it but it was pretty demanding when it came to your time if you were crew. When the owner wanted to go...you better be ready...fortunately she & I shared a house in Jensen Beach & she knew her dog,Stanford, was safe w me!
Brilliant Video Tristan. One of your very best. Excellent, interesting content and well edited. Many more like this please. Especially as the season will soon be over and ship handling videos will no longer be possible.
Nice to see you learnt your lesson from your berthing in Porto Rotundo, Sardinia Tristan. Observe, Observe, Observe. Ground lines are killers if you do not observe, good job crew, teamwork.
I would love to see more of these ‘parking’ and leaving port video’s. Seeing the technique that it takes of ‘driving’ a super yacht. Loved the video 👌🏼
Hi. Your GoPro Head setup is priceless! Thank You so much to show us your life on board AWOL. As an AB seaman i frequently ask myself why i did not choosen to work on a yacht. But, maybe ther will be a next life to take the chance. Cheers from Cuxhaven / North See.
oh...how I have missed this channel and vlog. another masterfully created video, Capt. Love the AWOL ... such a beautiful vessel. Hvar looks awesome. Perhaps one day my wife and I will be able to visit Croatia and other Med ports. Thanks for another great video.
I hope you and the crew were able to visit the town and the surrounding area a little. Hvar is not only beautiful from the water. The view from the rocks behind the city is breathtaking. 👍👍👍
perfectly done and thanks for letting us know all small steps of controll and precheck . it was very impressive and gives an idea what to do all... as well as captian of an private sailboat i can take some small things whith me in the daily work.
Thanks for the behind the scenes Tristan. Is your checklist commercial or something specific for awol. It was great to see you go through it. Great reminders about system checks, safety equipment and communication. We went to Bluetooth ear pieces and conference calls instead of radios. You set your phone on the binnacle have your ear piece in and talk to the crew. Handsfree. Radios are the backup. Play with it. Wind can be a little tricky.
awesome seamanship! not sure if its been discussed, but a video talking about navigation planning for longer crossings would be fun to hear about. ie what goes into picking a route, fuel planning, boat prep, etc. thank you..
I am a new subscriber and have to say, absolutely fantastic insight and explanation of what you do. I absolutely love what you are doing and appreciate your efforts to inform, educate and the opportunity to be a fly on the wall to witness. Thank you!!!
What concentration and with great ease. But I guess the experience pushes you to the top of yachting. This video is awesome, I love seeing and reviewing new and old videos. This is how we see remarkable progress. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Absolutely wonderful casting off maneuver hats up captain and crew love the team work....no fuss...great bridge management, engine room and deck hands spot on. easing out with the anchors was brilliant....question was it one or two anchors!? and where you pulling on them at the same time without stopping!? could you explain please...when you were going to port you put the rudder hard to port and stbd ahead and port astern, can you explain please the rudder position "Hard port" why?? wouldnt pivot alone with the engines ahead and stern! great great video love it thanks captain and crew keep them coming please safe sailing Ps. the cameras positions were Excellent.
Hello Capt. In a previous video you mention one of your pet hates was about privacy onboard. I can understand whilst you have guests onboard you have to sleep in your tiny cabins...but surely as captain, once you don't have guests, you and Giv could sleep in one of the guest suites??? Can't believe that you guys don't use the guest facilities during the off season. Happy sailing. Cheers from a sunny Sydney Australia. PS: You guys should think about working out of one of the many ports around the Great Barrier reef. With a very low number of Covid cases surely this would be a good option to take advantage of the many multi-millionaires in the Asia Pacific rim.
Nice job... nice quiet morning to leave with no one else out and getting in the way, haha. I'd need a MUCH larger coffee mug if you tried to wake me at that hour - that little cup was like two and a half sips, haha... I STILL want to know if those glasses are from the channel you were advertising and which MODEL they are if so... but I may never get Tristen to answer that one. 😐 Thanks for the "working" vid - I like these. 👍
I’m considering a 130-140’ but if I make the move that preparation checklist I’ll insist on. Have an 80’ now but never seen my captain use any list. Thank you for sharing !
That's good you have check lists and is using them. I been on some ship's where they don't use them and try to remember the checks by heart and wonder why something goes bad! I have a 1st Engineer's Unlimited Lic's for larger ship's.

the precision from human skills of the sea and modern technology is amazing to see
I love how it’s so early the crew are tired and even the camera doesn’t have enough light to focus, BUT The Captain is sharp. Comforting
Organised, calm, professional and very impressive departure from Port of Hvar. Great video Tristan.
Really great to see all the detail of departure. You’re clearly a pro - no bow thruster needed, full control of every aspect of the vessel 👍
Takes me back to my days at sea. The manoeuvring in and out of port was often a delicate process.
The sound of that anchor chair is some pretty incredible ASMR... :D
You make it look so easy! Brilliant!
Oh, and what a backdrop. Croatia looks amazing. It was almost as if the church bells were ringing for your departure!
The bell's in the back ground are way cool, Nice wake up. :) You all be safe.
Loved the video and most importantly the description of the maneuver. Keep it coming!
Not only very informative, but I felt calm. thank you.

You've just proven what I was told many years ago, "Slow Is Pro" that was perfection.
Absolutely 💯
The first time I sat at the helm as a boy the first bit of advice given was, "neutral is your friend".
I have passed on that sound tip ever since.
Sorry, no Keith you are wrong, slow is NOT pro. Observation, or lookout is pro. I can only conclude you are not a pro yachtsman. Keep learning.

Outstanding vlog Captain. Felt like I was there. What a way to start the day.
Soo jealous of the crew and guests on AWOL. The places you are going we can only dream of during Covid.
Such a calm and beautiful video. And those bells in the background were perfect!
Easy peasy! Nice to see you folks back to work.
