- This week's cold front didn't deliver quite the results we were hoping for, but the best hunting of the season is yet to come. With the bucks shifting their ranges again, it is a good idea to base your strategy on what you are seeing now versus what you were seeing even earlier this month. The bucks will be where the does are as the rut closes in, so if you can pattern the does, that will give you a great idea of where you will find the bucks. This weekend will be perfect for fine-tuning your strategy before next weekend when things start to heat up. Good luck.

Hey Bill, on Monday Oct 14th, the first day of that cold front moving in, I hunted, it was blowing 20 non stop. I had a big 7 pointer on camera a month ago and then he vanished, never seen him in person. At 6pm he came out into the timber and worked his way towards me, I couldn’t believe it. Had to take a 30yd quartering away shot and he died in 20 seconds. Very happy with him, deer #3 for me so far. Good luck Bill look forward to the videos

I took off Monday, here in Western Kentucky, and was entertained morning and afternoon, with the cold front. Many deer, bucks & doe's - bucks working scrapes.

Wasn’t able to hunt this week but did seem to see more general deer activity with the cold front here in central IL. Caught a lot more deer going back to beds in morning while driving around than had previous week.

Same down here in Southern Iowa. Thought for sure I’d see better movement with this cold front, hmmmm. Yes, very odd. Think I’ll be switching to mornings with the warmup looming. Rather than push the issue I think I’ll be fine tuning my pre rut setups and pray for good weather at the end of Oct, beginning of November. Glad to hear I’m not loosing my deer hunting mind! It was weird. We hunted in decent spots (not the best on the farm, but good), and saw very little. It is getting harder for me to predict these darn deer. Last year they moved very well during the mid-October cold front. You have a good plan. Good luck.

Good information, things were slow for me yesterday on this front. Seems like mature bucks just weren't up on the move until after sunset based on cameras. Pieces falling right into place.
Bill...you always provide very useful pointers...my cameras here in Vermont are very quiet...plenty of bear showing up but deer are keeping a low profile.yo.keep up the good work and good luck

In Southern Iowa the movement was incredible..I sat timber (acorns) in the mornings and alfalfa or clover in the evenings..I saw 2 out of range mature bucks in alfalfa.
That area as a whole has a lot of deer, but it sounds like a really good sit. Good luck the rest of the season. Sounds like you are in a good spot.
I agree bill. From about oct 14-24 , it gets fairly slow. I have seen bucks pawing up the dirt back near bedding areas but no doe harassing yet.

Far Northern Missouri was fairly slow this past Monday and Tuesday also. Definitely feels like things will break loose very soon. Not seeing rubs quite yet and scrape activity hasn't really opened up big yet either.

Full moon. The mid morning movement has been awesome here in PA. Evenings have been a little slow.
I know you said you wouldn't burn vacation to hunt this cold front, but i was out to shoot some does. Glad i took two days off here in SE Pa. It was the 2 best days if hunting I've had in a ling time and even shot two doe on consecutive days in the tree. Only downside.... Saw one scrawny 8 point, no "rut" activity other than scrapes scattered throughout the property. C'mon November 7th. 😁. Thanks for all the great intel.. 👊🏼

The cold front finally made it down here to Texas last night, I went out this morning for a few hours and didn't see anything but squirrels, it was really disappointing 🤷
I've saw some range shift last 2 days. New buks so to speak. My friend Steve saw a range shift.
Do you get your safety ropes from arborist sites or are they ones that came with stands?. .. and did u use an old one for your bino strap.

That is awesome. Congrats. I believe you on the pattern. We are sure not seeing them moving toward the same places where they were feeding in September and early October. I am sure as we get closer to the rut, they will re-emerge. Good luck and glad to hear from you.
This cold front has gone the opposite of what everyone predicted around me. We went from good activity to a total ghost town. Never seen deer behave this way around a cold front. Scratching my head brother.
I think my deer got a U-haul. It seems they are staying away from my land for sure.
Good Stuff Bill!. Too much-standing corn and acorns near bedding areas this time of the year. Just no reason for deer to leave a cornfield or bedding area. As things continue to dry out, water will play a key role as they will not be able to get enough moisture from their food and of course, the pre-rut leading into the rut starting on October 26th, peaking on November 3 and slowing by November 10. Hope the weather starts to cool off and that the steady winds continue. All good stuff for the prerut and rut. #BigBuckInTheTruck2024

What are your thoughts on tonight's Super Moon for morning movement tomorrow 10/18? I am in the North East
I will tell you after the hunt! I don't know much about moon phase effect on movement. I probably should, but most biologists say there is little correlation between moon phase and movement. But then you get people who have shot a lot of deer that say the moon set time is more important. I just go hunting whenever I can and as often as I can, but that is an advantage I have over a lot of people who have to predict when the is right to take a vacation. I will know more in about 7 hours! Good luck.

Best part of being retired,don’t hunt till last week October first 2 weeks of November. I wait till best time to hunt so they get no pressure. It’s kinda tuff when it’s a 29 degrees morning but the wait is worth it live in Missouri hunt only Nebraska family farms (5) all to myself. Retirement is great, now have to go out and shoot my bow. 🏹🏹🦌🦌

Ive yet to have any mature bucks show up on camera all summer ect we've got a lot of does and some young bucks hoping towards Halloween the big boys show up i haven't even hunted yet just waiting

@@larrybulthouse455 Bad advice, it was on yesterday morning oct 17th, i sat 2 hours in the morning and saw 5 deer, actually saw a buck chasing 3 does, first i have seen of that this year.
Had good movement here during the cold front. Next good one should be even better
I think many older bucks avoid the hyperactive pre-rut behavior of younger bucks and find places to chill. Even when chasing a hot doe, I see the oldest bucks hanging back apparently conserving energy until the doe is receptive.
I have experience that last couple years bucks leave but I’ve got does as my wife says the girls bring the boys to the yard lol

Make sure Jorden is in the stand between Oct 24-27. She has the best chance to harvest a buck.
