  • In February 2015, three teenage schoolgirls left the comfort of their homes in East London and traveled to Syria to join the self-styled Islamic State (IS). Around 60 women and girls are thought to have made the same journey from Britain.
The story of their disappearance dominated the UK press for weeks and the blame game inevitably began to hunt out whose fault it was. When the families of Amira Abase, Shamima Begum, and Kadiza Sultana found out that the police had been interviewing the trio about another girl from their school who had already joined IS, the case was picked up for investigation by the government. But soon certain sections of the press would turn on the families themselves.
VICE News gained intimate access to the father of one girl, Amira, and joined him as he dealt with the press and parliament to find out what it's like for those left behind by the tragic choices of their loved ones.

"Fled" to Syria? That must be the dumbest choice of words I've read.

It's sad how their parents came out to Europe to escape war, to escape poverty, to live with a better life quality, and the kids are just deciding to believe in other radicals rather then the parents. How heartbreaking these parents would be.

I still dont understand how a 15 year old can fly internationally without their parents permission.

"....fled to Syria" is the wrong term. They travelled to Syria would be correct. One only flees when one is in danger of whatever.

I never understand people moving to a country with freedom of speech and then demanding that people aren’t allowed criticize their god in anyway.

the mother says herself how much she likes to control her teenage daughter. u should never treat a teenager like that because u do not know what they are facing in life. her daughter would never tell her parents anything if her mother is watching over her and with her all the time. and her father said when he talks about her he talks about himself. that is the main mistake, he thinks his daughter is just like he wants her to be. not like an other human being

When the 1st girl left, they should have informed all parents. Everyone made a mistake here. Why did the police sent letters just to the girls? Why not to parents as well?

The father definitely has a big role in his daughter getting radicalized. He is portrayed to be innocent when he is not.

Lol the father is “grateful” for how the country gives him freedom to “express” himself, yet himself protests against the same freedom afforded to others.

The funniest part is that he's protesting in the name of freedom against freedom of art😂😂
