My uncle had one of these. I was fascinated by the projected instrument cluster which I don't think I've seen in other makes/models.

It’s the best Taurus ever, proper V8 power, great ride. Actually reliable and good gas mileage. I’ve got two; a 1998 with 186k and a 2002 with 157k. Both are console shift and sunroof. Parts are cheap. It is tight around the engine and often requires disassembly of nearby components when doing repairs or maintenance.

Looking at one with 200k that was very well maintained by and older fella. You think these cars can make it to 300k or higher like the Town Cars are frequently known to do? Can't find anyone on forums with high mileage 9th Gen Continentals.

@@cr8982 Yes. This era of Continental owners are generally not into forums, many like me have been playing with cars for decades and have little need for basic advice and instruction (I've owned 26 cars over the years, and worked on all of them - including major engine and transmission rebuilds and repairs). I did once find a guy on the Internet selling a 1998-2002 Continental with ~ 300k miles. I was curious about his experiences since he was a DIYer. He said it had been a great car that needed little, and he thought it would be a good car for the next owner. There are many who believe in that era of Taurus - and the same years Continental is just a glorified Taurus. I over maintain my cars with 2,500 mile oil changes, trans service every 25,000 miles etc. I do my own service, the price of oil and filters is much less than engine and transmission overhauls. Both my Continentals are original engine and transmission.

yes very reliable. they do have their issues, but all cars have. engines and transmission last a good amount and it is a very nice smooth ride.

@@nu-agegamer3548 Owned two of these bodystyles since 2007. Great car. They are low maintenance and reliable, assuming the previous owner replaced fluids (coolant, tranny, oil, and power steering) at recommended intervals, and used octane 91 or higher unleaded fuel, exclusively. Common failed items regardless of maintenance history are auto dim feature in inside rearview mirror going bad. Rear air springs becoming dry rotted and leaking air. Valve covers failing and leaking oil in spark plug bores (causing misfires).
