Thanks for the warning. And you could have stopped with maintenance. My first, and last, RC was a Tamiya Frog. I spent more time and money fixing it than running it. It was incredibly discouraging considering how many yards I mowed to buy it. I was thinking about buying one of these but I might as well spend the extra money on Traxxas.
Great video. I mostly agree, but lets be honest. Upgrading is pretty difficult. Nothing fits, and spares are hard to get here in the states. You can find them, but you're in for a long wait.
For one cheap Arma Wich isn't RTR, I can buy 5 Arma or Traxxas. I have the 12428 and this thin is awesome for 50 bugs. Can take a absolute abuse without any damages. I really like it!
I noticed you losing signal at not too far of a range. I've had the exact same issue with my a959 and a979. If you want to upgrade you have to do transmitter, receiver, esc, and servo. But, you can get all that for like $40. I made my a959 brushless for about $45.
And as regards your opinion on the A959B: I agree! It is unusable! It is impossible to control. But I still love it (as long as it doesn't fall apart) :)
Great video you two. Alot of people just push that these trucks are flawless so it's nice that you set it straight and show that there are pros and cons. Keep it up fellas.
I buy wltoys because I find them decent value for money. Some rc cars are pretty rubbish, but I have had luck with the k989, and the 12428. I have a couple more in mind too. And in time, upgrades, and then more upgrades. It's all about the hobby, and what makes you smile the most. Thanks for the great content. Tasmania is watching you guys. Saucesome stuff.. Saucesome = Awesome Sauce!!
Always enjoy your videos. You guys are great and fun to watch. I have purchased 2 WLToys RC’s based on UA-camrs great reviews (not you guys). They are cheap and maybe a good toy for a youngster. My reasons not to buy any WLToys RC. 1) Banggood - they are a terrible company who have a reputation for ripping people off . They are on several consumer sites in the states, in the NOT to deal with group. BTW Banggood owns a large stake in WLToys and control distribution. In the states they are a nightmare to deal with, forget anyCS. My first car took 3 months to arrive but the website said 10-15 days. I sent several emails, none where replied to. It came damaged, again no CS, luckily I used AmEx and they dealt with them and protected me. AmEx could not reach them as well. You all being in Hong Kong may have much better shipping times. 2)all that pretty metal is junk, paper thin. It bends soooooo easily. Metal is only good when it’s good metal. My shock towers and shock shafts bent on my second run (not bashing). In comes Banggood again, ordered new parts all in one order, never arrived They hit my AmEx before shipping (illegal in the states). You can guess, no CS response. Thus my last try with Banggood and WLToys. That car went in the trash where it belongs. 3) you get what you pay for, these are cheap for a reason. Like you said even the screws are junk. These are Chinese pieces of poop. 4). I LOVE THAT YOU GUYS ARE HONEST about products. Banggood (WLToys) sends most UA-camrs with decent sub counts), all free stuff. I got recommendations from a few UA-camrs who get it free and don’t want to piss off the free gravy train. They said a positive stuff, unlike you guys who tell both sides. Keep up the good work!
I agree CS on BG is terrible at least for me. Stripped FR diff out the box on the 144001. I got spares from Amazon & EBay u can find some parts in the states. Turned mine into FreakinStein a979 body BL 4300kv, 60a esc. These cars are good for beginners because it teaches u how to maintain a RC, Not good on the pocket or patience at first...u should have went BL I’m hitting 60 on 2s 👍🏾
I have 10428 buggy, this has the 2 speed mechanical gear box which is cool. The suspension is surprisingly great once I got the shock oil changed. All the parts are of decent quality, no slop like on my HSP SCT (sad because it hauls ass) but can't trim the steering since everything moves a lot at all the pins and joints. The number one reason why not to buy WLtT are the all built in electronics and 5 wire servos. By the time you are done upgrading that, you have yourself an Arrma.
Great video, as usual...and totally agree about the horrible screws. They are what immediately broke on Augie where the front shocks connect to the tower. BTW, what was the white buggy that showed up in the video (toward the front). Happy Monday Amber and Joe!
Great video, got a K989 on the way for some indoor fun But shocks and grease are sadly not cheap WLToys only... Got no grease and empty shocks on multiple €500+ RTR cars also. Which is why I pull every RTR I buy apart before running it, be it cheap or expensive.
Cheap hardware "screws" seems to be a fairly large problem across multiple industries these days. Feels like it's one of the first places companies try to save money
It seems most of them come with a 5 wire servo set up im guessing not very easy to upgrade the steering without surgery or replacing the stock electronics to an off the shelf set up I have the 959B I think the only issue is its way overpowered I am actually planning on ordering the smaller motor and mount that came on the A version the videos I have seen looks to be still crazy fast but a lot more derivable
Always pick and choose what you order from WL Toys. Some can be junk, others can be a great deal. Their RC helicopters are not bad at all for the money. I have purchased many upgraded parts from WL and let's face it. The parts are cheaper than the others, so you can buy a handful as spares and you can swap parts fast and easy. I couldnt have even gotten into RC helicopters without WL Toys. For my Grandson, the cars are perfect. Better than New Brite, cheaper and a hell of a lot better all the way around.
Got a bunch of friends who always want to run my rc's at the beach, but I have stuff amateurs can't handle, so cheap rc that can be fixed would not be a horrible idea
Great video and info, agreed🤙! Solid point on the A959b, love the series but that one really is unusable. The 144001 is awesome and a much better option for a small buggy.
@@TheRcKiwis Awesome👍just got mine in. I picked up the 989 for me and the 969 as a gift. Got the A242 and 252 in too, will get some vids up soon. Thanks for the reply and for sharing the RC love! Just subbed🤙
Question everyone loves the 144001. But i like the 124018 better looking, same but longer frame. Is the 144001 then really better? I mean its 98% the same?
Sorry guys, forgot to like and comment. Your right on point with this one. The funny thing is I’ve owned them all and only own the one you guys don’t like lol. It’s fun if you don’t expect much. Lol, I only use it in. The basement or driveway.
Love the video. Got this green wl toys 12428 and hell, it bugs me. The back gearing the plastic broke and I got a new one, but the screws are just so soft. I wanted to get them out and made them round :) Any trick to get them out?
Great video! The issue with the soft metal applies to everything metal coming from China or India. Great tech and poor quality material. Such a shame unless you're willing to put the time in on changing out every screw. I'm definitely not going to be buying anything but the k969 as I live in Arizona and everything is hot most of the year.
I agree for the money wltoys is hard to beat but for just over£ 100 the zd racing thunder 10 scale cars are available. I have 3 the monster truck. Short course and the truggy. All brushless 3s capable and the battery an charger come included. I think overall zd racing rc cars are better value than any other cars out there. Just my opinion. Keep up the good vids your both fun to watch
Awesome I like the way you guys give your discussion and input on the RC cars. Thank you keep it going and I will look forward to seeing your Fantastic segment.
I got the 144001 and it’s great, I driven it into a rock at max speed and nothing broke, maybe u talking about the other versions or the first version of the 144001
iDs Hunter .... I think your description is even more accurate. They got our 100 bucks, move on now. Feel bad for others who keep replacing part after part after part. Now they get 200 bucks. They’re called WL ‘Toys’ for a reason.
Good Fastener are expensive. That is why they give you the bling and cheap fasteners. Case in point aircraft bolts cost about $1k+/- a piece. Few years back cheap knockoffs bolts were used and aircraft start falling out of the sky.
If u have a spare, my124018 esc pass the 3s test, but I had a spare jic...also my stock 144001 esc gave out after about 5 rips(v3)...been brushless since, that’s the way to go
I preach this to everyone and most people dont agree, but upgrading ANY rc to metal causes just another weak point like u said! Stay plastic! Then replace with plastic! Its cheap, easy to find and replace, and metal bends instead of breaking!
You can find anything you need from Banggood, Aliexpress, or even Amazon now. There is also a guy stateside in the 144001 Facebook group that stocks all sorts of parts and even full WLToys cars if you need parts quickly. A lot of LC Racing parts are interchangeable as well.
I just got my 124018 this morning. Sure hoping the screws don’t suck because this thing came dialed in. All hex were tight, shocks perfectly filled so not too squishy or too stiff. We’ll see how this goes. Hoping I don’t regret the $115 I spent, but it can’t be worse than my three always broken ECX RCs lol!
@@dcarts5616 sweet! They are getting better and better out of the factory. I would definitely grease the diffs. That is one thing they don't do properly from the factory. John Robinson RC has a great video how to. The screws do suck, unfortunately. Search "144001 screw kit" on Amazon. The one with the blue screw driver for $15 is well worth it. @Mario Puzo that happened to me with my 12423 and the servo stopped working while using
The key to aluminium upgrades is to use them where you need to add strength / rigidity but leave some parts plastic to be sacrificial in a crash.
What parts would u say is sacrificial. Just looking for advice

Congrats on the 10k! Well deserved 👍😎
Thank you so much 😀🎉🎉🎉
And as regards your opinion on the A959B: I agree! It is unusable! It is impossible to control. But I still love it (as long as it doesn't fall apart) :)
Thank you! I'm interested in that small drift car - still saving 😭
Do you have to fill the shocks right out of the box
Great video you two. Alot of people just push that these trucks are flawless so it's nice that you set it straight and show that there are pros and cons. Keep it up fellas.
Thank you very much 😊 you are so right! They are not flawless by any means, but are still awesome and heaps of fun for a good price 🤩
Saucesome = Awesome Sauce!!
I started with wl toys good learning to build for cheap
Now I got 3k boats…10 of them
You get what you pay for! Good and bad, thanks for the honest review.
Thanks for watching! 😊
Nice to see an honest review showing its weaknesses as well as strengths.
Cheers mate! Always keepin it real here on TheRcKiwis 😎😉
@@TheRcKiwis Thats the only way to be. 😎🍺🍺
Great video guy's. I'm old school got the 144001 love it. Also got the drift car. Keep up the hard work 👍
Cheers Andy! 🍻
Still i love them, especially 124019...
Yes so do we! (Just not when it comes to working on them..) 😂 124019 and K969 our my favs!
So the QC is the same as an Arrma?
Excellent vid guys and great advice. I like the 144001.
Is there a complete screw kit to replace the stock?
Hey there, not that im aware of. Cheers
Great job! Very informative.
Thank you, Chris! 😊
That’s a great point you made! Cheers 🍻
4:56 you have to use thread lock when screwing into metal. did you use thread lock?
Great video guys. Very helpful!
Great video, as usual...and totally agree about the horrible screws. They are what immediately broke on Augie where the front shocks connect to the tower.
BTW, what was the white buggy that showed up in the video (toward the front).
Happy Monday Amber and Joe!
Great video, got a K989 on the way for some indoor fun
But shocks and grease are sadly not cheap WLToys only...
Got no grease and empty shocks on multiple €500+ RTR cars also.
Which is why I pull every RTR I buy apart before running it, be it cheap or expensive.
great to hear the pros and cons on the WL Toys. Congrats on the 10,000 Subbs!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks so much!🎉🎉
Cheap hardware "screws" seems to be a fairly large problem across multiple industries these days.
I looked everywhere in the UK, and I could not find the k969
A959B is a fun little car, It's just not a basher.
How did u guys get info on the new buggy!!
Top secret spy 🤫
@@TheRcKiwis 😜😜😜
Got a bunch of friends who always want to run my rc's at the beach, but I have stuff amateurs can't handle, so cheap rc that can be fixed would not be a horrible idea
That is a fantastic idea! Great point! Thanks for sharing 😊
Almost 10k subs. I appriciate your work
love your honest, down to earth, no nonsense videos, keep them coming, us noobs find them really helpful!
Thank you so much! Haha, us noobs love entertaining you all! 😊🤩
Great video and info, agreed🤙! Solid point on the A959b, love the series but that one really is unusable. The 144001 is awesome and a much better option for a small buggy.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it 😊 yes the 144001 is a great wee buggy! Just about to upload a video on the K969! Make sure you don’t miss it 😉 cheers 🍻
Nice intro guys!😍
Cool buggies, is there any Chinese alternatives to Tamyia's 1:10 asphalt cars ?
I'm excited for that K969 video you teased. I am learning to drift one and it really takes a lot of time and practice!
Try out the 10428 crawler, after locking the front diff and a cheap tyre upgrade it does everything an Axial does and more.
Awesome! Will have to try it out sometime or when they release a new model of it 😁
I'm waiting for my 114001, I'm buying it due to your review
Hopfully wont be too much longer of a wait!
Better then hsp ?
Sorry guys, forgot to like and comment. Your right on point with this one. The funny thing is I’ve owned them all and only own the one you guys don’t like lol. It’s fun if you don’t expect much. Lol, I only use it in. The basement or driveway.
I feel the same with metal parts on every RC
Q. What do you recommend arrma or traxxas?
Well my favourite atm is the Arrma Kraton EXB 😁😉
Love the video. Got this green wl toys 12428 and hell, it bugs me. The back gearing the plastic broke and I got a new one, but the screws are just so soft. I wanted to get them out and made them round :) Any trick to get them out?
Great video! The issue with the soft metal applies to everything metal coming from China or India. Great tech and poor quality material. Such a shame unless you're willing to put the time in on changing out every screw. I'm definitely not going to be buying anything but the k969 as I live in Arizona and everything is hot most of the year.
Great video, waiting for k989 video
I agree for the money wltoys is hard to beat but for just over£ 100 the zd racing thunder 10 scale cars are available. I have 3 the monster truck. Short course and the truggy. All brushless 3s capable and the battery an charger come included. I think overall zd racing rc cars are better value than any other cars out there. Just my opinion.
Keep up the good vids your both fun to watch
Glad you're enjoying watching our vids! Cheers 🍻
10k!! Congrats!! Great vid on some decent rc's, hard to complain about them. Haha, they're a pain! But fun to beat on!
Awesome I like the way you guys give your discussion and input on the RC cars. Thank you keep it going and I will look forward to seeing your Fantastic segment.
Excellent video love it!!!💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
You buy 3 989 @ one time & let family Dogs chase it . 4 yrs later ONE still running & now got lots of parts to repair it. All for $120 .
You guys are so close to 10k!!! 😆🤘
I'm refreshing every 10 minutes, soon that will be every 10 seconds... 😂
Wltoys are disposable rc's buy/break /bin them
the only pro they have is the price if they manage to stay in one piece for a while
I got the 144001 and it’s great, I driven it into a rock at max speed and nothing broke, maybe u talking about the other versions or the first version of the 144001
iDs Hunter .... I think your description is even more accurate. They got our 100 bucks, move on now. Feel bad for others who keep replacing part after part after part. Now they get 200 bucks. They’re called WL ‘Toys’ for a reason.
Great video and absolutely right. You get points for total honesty here.
Thank you so much 😊
Great video Kiwis! I love to hear honesty when it comes to reviews. Your getting sooo close to 10,000 subs!!!!
Thank you so much!! We are all about that 😊 Finally hit the 10k! Thanks for the support 😊🤩
Totally agree with your 6 points!
Great video!! I am thinking about getting the A949 rally car. Overall, Wltoys is good bargain and fun!!
Good Fastener are expensive. That is why they give you the bling and cheap fasteners.
Case in point aircraft bolts cost about $1k+/- a piece. Few years back cheap knockoffs bolts were used and aircraft start falling out of the sky.
$1k+/- a piece...... hahaha no they don't!!
Should i gamble my esc in the 144001 with a 3 cell? I want it to keep up with my mini 8
How old is your rc ? The 2nd series 14401 has a slightly different esc and takes 3s but the other instantly smokes . Good luck
If u have a spare, my124018 esc pass the 3s test, but I had a spare jic...also my stock 144001 esc gave out after about 5 rips(v3)...been brushless since, that’s the way to go
@@benwainwright8458 I’ve recently purchased it so I assume it’s the up to date version.
Mine just arrived I’m stoked looks really cool
Very nice video my friend. I only have one the little one
Haha watching this nervously waiting for mine to be delivered ! The purple one I can’t remember the numbers 😂
Any ideas when the 14001 is going to be released?! Ive got a motor/esc and radio waiting for it.
It should be this week! You will know the day we get ours, we will work hard to film and produce video on same day! 😁
@@TheRcKiwis awesome thanks so much
I preach this to everyone and most people dont agree, but upgrading ANY rc to metal causes just another weak point like u said! Stay plastic! Then replace with plastic! Its cheap, easy to find and replace, and metal bends instead of breaking!
How’s part support now for these in the US? I owned one years ago and could NEVER get parts support.
Sorry, we aren't in the US so cant answer that one... You would prob have to order parts from Banggood or Aliexpress?
You can find anything you need from Banggood, Aliexpress, or even Amazon now. There is also a guy stateside in the 144001 Facebook group that stocks all sorts of parts and even full WLToys cars if you need parts quickly.
A lot of LC Racing parts are interchangeable as well.
@@ReMz10184 oh perfect thank you!
The tools are actually decent too. I've replaced lots of screws while tinkering from stripping then or losing them.
If you want to upgrade to hobby grade screws with an Allen head, these are direct swap: casterracingmi.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=1605
I have 2 144001,1 124019 and 1 124018
All are great. All 4 were rtr and 4 cost 400 bucks combined with batteries and cheap chargers.Hard to beat that with any other brand. Replacement parts are not at your local hobby store thats the downside they have to ordered from bangood or somewhere else that stocks them. Thanks for the vid.
Thanks for watching! Hope you enjoyed the video 😊
I’m looking to get one for fpv. Does the 124018 get back on its feet easy when it rolls? I like the idea of having a bit more clearance.
@@float32 yes it does roll better and I like it because the battery does not fly out.
LOVE ❤️ YOU GUYS! Great video as always!!!!
Thank you!!! Glad you enjoyed it 😊
