Interesting review, and the comparisons were very useful, thanks. The reason I chose the SD1953 in green was specifically because I find the SD green much more appealing than the Pagani.
Just got mine and I'm so happy with it , there's nothing not to like the hundred pounds price tag is just mental lol I'm thinking of just collecting steeldive watches because imo they're all excellent build quality and pricing is so good.
Cant argue there I guess...my old Mako bracelet was horrible. I've just been accustomed to Pagani and San Martin bracelets. It's not bad, but that play in the first link makes for a very rattly bracelet.
Nice vid, I really appreciate the outdoor, natural light shots in the sun and shade. Hard to tell how the colors, especially green, are gonna look until it's on wrist. Edit: ...but the chincy green PD uses is over the top. Even in marketing pics. Edit 2: the newer models have a much improves bracelet with a very solid milled scissor clasp with 6 pt micro adjustment. Very happy with mine out the box.
@@EscapeWheel I got a green SD1979 "Squale" clomage (bc I like green w/orange sec hand) but with the heavy AR coating, it looks like my watch is full of Windex from some angles. But THAT green is a nice flat sorta olive tone. My SD1953 is dressed in Starbucks/Kermit with a neutral black dial and satisfying "lucky" green bezel. Ironically, I can't tell if the crystal is AR coated or not. Thinking if ya can't tell... "Not". But what whatever, solid daily wear for 100.00 USD
This video really helped, this Steeldive Hulk is the next on my list. Thank you for the review! And actually I like more the toned down green on the SD, got a Pagani bracelet too.
I appreciate your observations on the dial colour of the Steeldive and for pointing out the blue AR. If it weren't for your video I wouldn't have noticed. It does bother me a little bit when the bezel and dial colours don't match closely, and I think that blue AR doesn't sit well on a green watch. Awesome review thanks!
I would check out more recent reviews, I believe steeldive has updated to a nicer color and sunburst dial as well as gone with clear AR. Worth a look again IMO.
Purchased the royal of this watch and I must say, I'm definitely impressed with the quality , given the low price point. Ordered the 38mm steelflier quartz pilot watch as well. Hopefully quality is comparable. If so, they are killing it in the realm of sub 100 dollar watches!!
Nice job, even 3yrs later. I loved Pagani’s until I found the Addiesdive and Steeldives. I also have the San Martin, got mine from Mercari for $100. It is really nice, but I wear my Steeldive Hulk more than the San Martin. The only Pagani I have left is the Pagani Tudor and Paul Newman. The rest have been replaced with AD and SD.
I got steeldive seiko 'cap willard' hommage and I'm blown away by it's quality. I'll definitely pick their sub homage now, thanks for your video. I'll go with the classic black one though.
I bought this watch today (with the green rubber strap) on Ali Express for $50 USD tax and shipping included. With those specs, it has to be worth the price I paid.
Damn, that's a killer deal. I picked up the Steeldive Tuna for $58 after tax on a bracelet. They've got some crazy deals. May have to check out the subbie again, though.
@@EscapeWheel It was a temporary member’s deal because now the price is $85. Still I bought my watch (with the green rubber strap which was the only option) for $50USD, order confirmed, and now I’m waiting for it to ship.
Excellent review! I really enjoy you your content! Btw I like the green of the Steeldive much more than the one on the Pagani Design which looks a garish by comparison. But I'm not a fan of polished Center links on a Submariner homage.
Thank you! I agree about the polished center links...thankfully we have options to brush yourself, or just swap the PD1661 bracelet. The SD green is growing on me 🤣
Another excellent review! That Watch Steward Strap is a beauty! I just went on their website and they have 4 different options: Original, Minimalist, Single Pass and G Series. Which one is the one you showed? You must pick a size too. I have a 7.5” wrist. If I ordered a 7.5” will it have a little extra room? Just not sure what size to order. Thanks!
I got the Addiesdive version of this. For what it’s worth, my crown is unsigned. Also, the back is unbranded (no logo) and it’s a Rol3x type back. I just got it yesterday. My dial has what I would describe as “army green”. I was under the impression that Steel dive and Addiesdive were essentially the same company. I wonder about the differences.
I've got the Kermit or the Starbucks or whatever people like to call it and it's a beauty but my has the brushed centre links and on the wrist it is realy eye-catching.✌️🧐🇬🇧🇺🇦
@@EscapeWheel I bought the black off the back of this review. Now I want the green so am watching again 🤣🤣 I think SD make the best Subby homage if you consider the price
My steeldive 1953 is a week old now on my wrist. Bezel back play is disappointing. It's has a high beat error and at least +15 sec a day. Case back gasket was bone dry. Did not apply sealant gel. So I fixed all of that. Now, I am happy about it. Beat error-0.2: 0 sec/day. It's a keeper. It's just a matter of time now if it will last...
Bezel issues is a little disappointing, I figured they all be the same in that regard. Movements are never regulated on these lower end brands. Glad you got it all sorted out, though 👍
@@glenvillanueva6950 yeah, that'll require you to remove the insert, retaining ring, then the bezel and click mechanism. Not a simple job, unfortunately
Great update and review. You may want to consider doing away with the overhead lighting. A lot of reflection and glare which is distracting but the gloves are a nice touch. Keep the vids coming and yes, I'm a subscriber ;-)
SD is better than PD, I do not like the green on the PD. But I like the SM even more, I think the main difference is the crystal, it seems SM has a different coating which cuts down on the reflections a bit better. The dial is also a bit darker which I like. At 2x price, maybe I will get 2SD instead of 1 SM.
Thanks for your review. Bought the Kermit/Starbucks version instead of the Hulk one after checking out your vid and am loving the watch though would have prefer the case to be the 5-digit sub case
Definitely, would get the steeldive. As for the looseness of the band, it's not a problem for me, since I wear my watches high and tight. I like the presence of the blue tint in the crystal, it reminds me that it has an AR coating applied. Nice review.
@@vassildelev2806 I wouldn't call it a mistake...the PD1661 is fantastic. Bracelet alone is a huge step up. Only real letdown IMO is the lume, which is just horrible..lol
