Playing DOOM for the FIRST TIME in 20 years

- Now that I've completed Spear of Destiny, it's finally time to conquer Doom! Before getting into the actual playthrough, I wanted to make a little reaction video of playing Doom for the first time in almost 25 years.
I chose to play on the Ultra-violence difficulty because I've never tried that before, and boy was I in for a surprise! So, a note to self: next time you try to speak in foreign language while playing, choose a game that you know or an easier difficulty setting.
Anyway, let me know in the comments how you think it went, and if you like this type of content, subscribe to the channel here:

One thing you will enjoy the most in Doom games is that they have many different textures and they don't look the same and unnecessary like Wolf3D, which is one of the many reasons, Doom is my favorite game growing up.
Just based on the first few levels, it's a huge leap forward compared to Wolfenstein. I recently watched a video where John Romero and John Carmack discussed various aspects of Doom's level design and how the creative possibilities are almost endless.
Zombies, shotgunners and Imps. The only enemies of the first 2 maps. Pinky Demons and their spectre counterparts are enemies from Map03 onwards.
Oh yes, Pinkies! I just called them pigs... 😅
23:50 that was a one-time switch. That's kind of a screwed up secret. If you don't get on that raiding platform after pressing the switch you can't get that supercharge unfortunately
Ok, that's good to know. I didn't realize there were things in the game that you have to get right the first time. I have to pay attention to that when I do the actual playthrough.
Nice that you're using both Fullscreen Statusbar HUD and Smooth Doom to play the game in GZDoom.
Yes, thanks for the tip. I tried to play without them, but they make a huge difference.
30:26 Jumping is not a thing in the original Doom but you can Jump if you set a specific key command in the option because this is a source port in which you're playing.
It might make the gameplay easier if you could jump, but I think I'll go with vanilla experience, at least on the first playthrough.
Even though there are mazes in this game they are not as confusing as in Wolfenstein 3D and also there aren't many mazes in this game, which is good news
Thank god. Overall my experience was that it's easier to make sense of places because everything doesn't look the same.
Im kinda late but, Doom is one of my favorite games, its old and simple but so fun, also im more of a vanilla Doom person ;)
The gameplay is just incredibly good, even without the ability to jump and all that stuff. I want to try the new Kex port, though, to see what's changed and to hear the new soundtrack.
Hell yeah! You had my curiosity, but now you have my attention.
Enjoy the warm-up, 'cause next Moon's Day will be Doomsday!
I don't know if you will do commentary videos from now on, but it will be fun and exciting if you do for all videos.
I already started recording the playthrough of Episode 1 without commentary, so I'll do that without (it's also faster to do for me because I can concentrate only on playing). But if it turns out that people like videos like these, perhaps I'll do more in the future. Ive already decided that I'll do at least one like this when starting to play a new game because it's fun to record the first thoughts.
10:54 Yes!!! They were shooting each other. Doom was the first game to introduce infighting
When I watched this video again, I realized that I should've known that. I've watched a ton of other people's videos where it happens and I've heard people refer to infighting, but I didn't make the connection when I was in the middle of the game. 🙈
18:46 you missed the secret level but no problem
Have to find that during the playthrough then! I was afraid that the video would get boring if I spent more time humping the walls.
