February 10th Colorado Springs had 6-8 of snow. I drive for Uber in my 2022 Model 3 AWD dual motor. I-25 had snow packed roads because the plows didn't get out in time. I turned on Autopilot basic edition and the vehicles was able to see the lanes and kept the car in the lane. Speed is a factor though - I didn't really go above 50 and neither was the rest of the traffic that out at that moment. This is month 1 of me being in a Tesla and so far, it exceeded all my expectations and covered any doubts I had about this car and its technology. Never going back!
I was amazed it handled it that well, as for driving close to center line, makes sense to me, stay away from the verge as much as possible, how many times have we seen videos of drivers that accidentally drift over and end up stuck in the snow?
I’m really not surprised. My curiosity is what happens. If the cameras get covered with slush and or snow, I live in Canada and we get our fair share amount of snow. We are looking at purchasing a Tesla this year have been watching your channel for a while and it’s been great learning a lot, I like the real world experiences that you provide. It puts a real sense of realistic context in owning an electric car. I’ve learned a lot and I appreciate you and many other channels like yours that offer a common sense and realistic approach without holding back any negatives, and of course, highlighting all the positives. I don’t see myself getting full self driving not only because of the initial cost but I just find that traffic aware cruise control in itself would be great. If you get the next version of auto pilot, it would be interesting to see how that handles similar situations enjoying your videos thank you for taking the time to make them and share.
If the cameras get covered you are done. The car will start yelling at you and then the features will disable. The cameras are heated so that will help for a while. If conditions are active and really bad, it will shut off. Thanks for watching!
I have snow tires on our Model Y, its absolutely a beast in snow, I basically can't get stuck, and it doesn't really slide at all. I have the S3XY buttons which now allows drift mode even with the long range, its really fun in the snow.

Hey Iowa Tesla Guy, not sure I would call that driving in a "blizzard". I'd expect to see a lot more fresh snow on the road during an actual blizzard. I've driven in a blizzard in Minnesota and it was much more of a "white out" kind of situation.
I get that and agree. I don't like playing the YT games but you have to a little. The roads were still bad by most people's measure in the country. I recognize that Minnesota may be the exception. Thanks for watching!
Good testing, glad you were able to do it in some safe areas. This seems a little better than last year and a big step up from two years ago. Still a long way to go, but I’m looking forward to seeing if V12 is initially better or a big step back until it gets more training data. Thanks!

do you have snow drive engage ?
I grew up in New England, and want my Tesla to learn to RESPECT road conditions which I think requires a certain amount of " understanding" . For starters.... DRIVING SLOWER in snow is a plus... as is driving in the RUTS when that is the clear choice. You will be contributing to a greater learning process when you get V12. 👍

With road conditions like yours,j the speed should always be below the posted limit. With no road markings, FSD had no road markings to detect. The legal speed limit is based on what is reasonable for the weather conditions not the posted limit.

I live in Minnesota and when the temperatures dropped well below zero, I turned on FSD and my car ignored my destination and tried to make a bee line to Florida!¹ I think my MYP is now a sentient being😊
¹Please understand that was just a little humor and that did not really happen. The version of FSD in my MYP is that I drive it myself😊

Really interesting test. We get some pretty deep snow up here in the Schwarzwald in Southern Germany so I'm quite curious how the Tesla copes particularly with FSD. It'll be interesting to see if the FSD learns from these bad conditions and realises to go slower through the corners etc.

Where do you buy your tires?
I have found Discount Tires to be a great place to get tires and tire service. Tires Plus is a good second.
I also run the CrossClimate2 tires on 19' Gemini rims on my 2022 Model Y Performance and after two winters in Minnesota, they perform very well.

I have version 11.4.9 on our Model Y and yesterday it was doing some really weird things. Our old model 3 did better with FSD 😢
