    Great! While some artists are going super distorted and syncopated with their modular set ups, or all out mindf*cking us like Richard Devine does (great sound designer BTW), which is all cool, because each artist brings something new and interesting to the table, when dealing with modular synthesis. Mr. Robert A.A. Lowe simply give our minds a soundscape to perhaps have meditative insights or just sit and wonder where he's going to take us.
    Then you add the fact that he's using his voice to accomplish amazing harmonies and it all comes out simply brilliant. I just discovered him, listened to this entire set and thought it was very cool. I love finding music sometimes that's hard to put a label onto as far a genre. Because this isn't quite Ambient nor is it Space music. I guess this could fit in with experimental, but why bother trying as opposed to just listening?

    Starts out so slow and drone-y, I was like - "oh ok, more monk-music to chill/sleep to... But the piece slyly builds and builds until the artist has created something here that just reaches into your chest and grabs hold. Really pulls an organic sound out of analog tech.

    • @RCAvhstape
      @RCAvhstape 6 років тому +1

      Yes, it's a gimmick. You use two electrodes on a plant or other organic object to create a very weak battery. The current from this battery, as it fluctuates slightly, is then amplified and used as a signal input to the synth. I say "gimmick", because the artist has limited control over it and is presented as some sort of "bio energy" nonsense. Instead of a plant you could use a bowl of salt water.

      /// OM - State Of Non-Return
      Traveler now reach the stream. The astral flight adapter.
      From the pain-sheath life ascends - the Non-returner sees.
      Empathy release me - and the phoenix rise triumphant.
      And walks onto the certitude ground - the soul's submergence ends.
      From the rounds of rebirth - he arrives onto the deathless.
      Light bores through the adjunct worlds - the soul-galleon prevails.

      The five roads subsumed by grace - emancipates from dream.

      @@Rhythmicons People tend to react that way when the performer doesn't interact verbally with the audience as a way of introduction.
      Also, the problem with generative synthesis is you really can't tell as a member of the audience what kind of effort goes into it.
      It gets good when he starts singing, because at that point the artist is demonstrating effort as well as his courage.
      That being said, his talent is no guarantee that he isn't the aforementioned "pretentious wank", or tell us why our OP concluded that.
