You've helped me improve my game immensely and I beat the game for the first time a couple weeks ago after having it in my library since early access (holy shit 6 years). You've given me the courage to start a bloodmoon playthrough, and I'm at about 50 weeks in at this point. Just team wiped on DD1, probably should have taken a PD with me lol. Tip for occultist: Use them to keep your party in good health, but not to try to bring back from the brink of death so much: Heal in the middle, where you can take the bleed, and will use the (probable) health.
The only main downside is that you have to babysit her in the early game similar to shieldbreaker, but after leveling her up she becomes one of the best heroes in the game.
PD is phenomenal. Very fast as a standard , devastating frontline blight, stuns that clear corpses, blight/bleed/disease cure and heal, reasonably tanky. Imo she shines even further as a jack of trades in CC or the final dungeons with incision, blight and heal in pos3. Just amazing.
Man, I don't know why everyone thinks her CC set is so bad. Unless I just forgot that her base Accuracy is complete shit, it's should feel like a straight upgrade. You trade 10 acc, +25% stress and 5% to both chances for 25% Max HP which makes her self heal camp skill better, 25% Damage, and making Incision actually worth running. If anything I think the downside is that it takes both trinket slots, but on the other hand, the CC set is all of her class trinkets rolled together, so maybe that is a bargain.
Healing during camp is okay man, there are times to do it lol. The set would be good if she didn't have to sacrifice accuracy. There are ways around it like quirks and buffs, but she's so fast most battle buffs won't get to her round 1.
Her CC set is fantastic, complements every part of her kit and even patches up her fragility a bit and has no downside (I really feel the impact of the 25% stress on the BV, as much as people pretend otherwise). Though lack of accuracy hurts. It DOES pull a nerve when you see 64% chance to hit on the stress dealers. I try to lock in every accuracy quirk I get on my roster, so that I get to try out more fun stuff than focus ring on every party member lol. I guess they didn't put accuracy on the set because it would just be straight up broken with no downside. Which is fine, for some reason PD has got some amazing pieces with no downsides (Witch's Vial for free 15% stun, Bloody Herb for free Incision dmg, bleed chance and acc, her CC set as stated, and Ashen Distillation for free dodge, healing received and blight chance). But some other CC sets really have no right to expect you to use them when they give you 0 accuracy. Like Vestal's set is obviously for frontline Vestal, the mace bash has horrid base accuracy, why give melee damage but no accuracy? :/
10:45 the best part about the vapors is the targeted speed boost for certain teams. dance teams where one person has to go first for example, although shieldbreaker is too fast. other than that, it's really not that good for the combat buff, as it's 75% if a character only attacks over three turns. mark gives anyone with a matching ability a massive if not 100% damage boost against a target. m'odd idea would be vapors giving the target a bonus turn after her, with damage boost or not, with a chance to apply blight or maybe stun even. encourages stun resist, using meds, not using blight or stun items, as well as enables certain combos within an individual hero or allows a slower character to benefit from PD's speed.
yeah that's until you factor in that there is this guy called highwayman that has grapeshot. grapeshot has -50% damage. if you use this skill twice, it removes negative of it . The technical boost is 75% damage as highwayman hits 3 targets. with ranged trinkets, you hit damage peak faster. Meme comp to run would be plague doctor x2 +Highwayman x2. double turns would literally make this comp completely ridiculous. turn 1, you'd literally be doing 800% damage to 3 targets if both Dismas have ranged trinket. With speed-boost, your always going first and than there... is all that critical chance stacking.
I may not do much, but I always try to watch all the ads, from 30 to 60 seconds it hurts though and more time I just go drink water or to the bathroom, in another channel I once got a 17 hours ad, it was crazy, I skipped it though lol
In the quirks section I think you missed an opportunity to talk about accuracy quirks in order to make her crimson court set actually viable and solid for a hybrid build using Incision but not focusing too hard on it. In the builds section another missed opportunity is the old classic of PD, X, X, Helion. First turn PD double stuns backline, Helion deals damage to rank 3/4. Second turn Helion double stuns frontline, PD either blights or stuns something, very rarely Battlefield Medicine. By turn 3 most battles are in the clean up/stall phase at this point.
Any tips for mitigating her stress (especially with Blasphemous Vial equipped) without a dedicated stress healer? I find she gets more stressed than most, due to the lack of direct damage kills.
Get her some extra speed or stack surprise chance so she goes first. If you can stun the backline before they do anything and your team can reach then you can mitigate that downside a lot.
Ngl I don't really use the PD stun. I use her as a DPT character, with the two Blight bombs and a support healer with Battlefield Medicine to stop bleeds and blights. Curing disease is also fantastic.

I'm way late to the party on this game, but what I've learned through trying other comps and getting smacked around is that the starting 4 heroes you get are really, really good! I was sleeping on PD right from the beginning but now I've learned that she almost has it all! Backrow stun is amazing, backrow blight, one of the best heals in the game, and some bleed too. She's dope.
Incision would be a lot better if Blasphemous Vial was properly balanced; after 2 separate goddamn nerfs, it's still insane, and Bloody Herbs + Dissection Kit still doesn't stack up. Perhaps if Incision did the - ACC instead of the Frontline blight (which frankly doesn't need it) would help.

I have only 2 plague doctor one level 6 one level5 who died today. I want to cry. I replaced with a level 2. Wonder why I have only 2 of them even if I like it quite a bit
I personally never use blinding gas but love to use PD. I just don't feel great using it and have more fun with Disorienting Blast or using her more aggressively (I usually play on Bloodmoon)
I prefer to open with Plague Grenade. I don't like hitting an enemy that is stunned in the opening round unless I'm applying a DoT before it gets its roll. If it's against blight resistant enemies, it's stun opener instead.
It is pretty telling when the weakest move on her bar can split bosses in half. PD is super good That and dropping both uses of Vapors on a Leper or Shieldbearer will always clean house. Any attacker really. But again... Doing it instead of a stun or blight is usually a bad idea outside of bosses.
I hadn't considered that before. There are some bosses she struggles in like Hag, but overall I think she can do okay in most of them. She's incredible vs flesh and that's imo the hardest vanilla boss.
Also SB and PD have a lot of synergy. PD can really benefit the team in snake dreams ( nor riposte on her stun, cure the bleeds and blights, slow down the stress, and cure the few things SB can get hurt by thru aegis )
Such a fun character; my first time playing the game and nearly pooped myself when Collector randomly showed up like week 3. He was barely a speed bump between PD's CC and blight stacking. I feel like PD also benefits from the early trinkets as well as just about any character as even a white stun charm like dazzling just make them silly good.
I’m sure you won’t read this. I’ve been playing DD for years. I’ve always really liked the plague doctor, but have NEVER used her as a stunner. Not out of any moral abatánanos, but I’ve just never thought to. I’ve always used her as a DoT bomber. I’ve always felt that she’s limited as a character. I watched this because everyone says she’s so good. After seeing this, I feel pretty dumb.
Personally speaking, from my own game modifications, all debuffs/DOTs that affect more than one person get a -20% chance to proc as a penalty for affecting more than one person. In regards to enemy resists, a 20% nerf prooved to be balanced. I haven't yet done extensive testing in regards to stacking stun chance. But I've been thinking a simple buff to the stun resist boost enemies get after a stun might proove sufficient. Increasing from 50% to 70%. Thoughts? Seems somewhat pointless to ask for opinions given that only I will benefit from these changes, but I like discussions.
It's hard to put a number on something like that. Because if you want there to still be a chance of a successive stun then the % has to be low enough for it to happen. If you want the enemy to not be stunned repeatedly then just give them 200% for the temporary buff. I like what black reliquary did, which was give enemies a permanent 10% resist buff for the rest of the battle alongside the temp one.
Realistically speaking, if a person has a concussion, it is VERY easy to get a second one in the near future. So the stun resist stacking isn't realistic. I also realized that I don't spam/abuse stuns. Anyway, it's not hard to put a number on these things. All one needs to do is do the maths to figure out which numbers should be put. Black reliquary has a different balance phylosofy than DD, where your dudes and the enemy dudes get a lot of health to make combat last extra rounds and to permit one side to outsmart the other. This is pretty much in stark contrast with DD, where health is low, damage is high and you're encouraged to finish combat quickly. Best example being the Shrieker fight. All of that to say that I don't think a 10% permanent boost after every stun fits into base DD.

The utility of diseased herbs and of her camping abilities to resist it is to prevent the squishy odd healer and backliner destroyer to get afflicted making her even more flimsy. The utility is to at least let a single person be immune, or extremely resistant to certain effects. As no matter what, odd occasions like that can occur. Also, I remember when I first tried the game, the plague doctor would be the first one to get afflicted negatively, also twice the first to die was a hound master. Twice in a bad idea thinking it would work, and almost a step away from healing them. To one of them I went on a crusade onto the necromancer for a trinket he could've used in his honor. But yeah! Very nice guide!also I may be the only one of few who notices the slight change in text depending on the character guide

I have a bias towards incision ; for some reason I find the attack animation so good looking and the sound is nice as well.

If you need to heal during your camp you are misplaying a lot. PD CC set is subpar. That is just the reality.

Battlefield Medicine is such a wondrous panic button. Those ghouls and crabs hurt like hell. Meaning I bring her wherever and whenever at intervals.

i've used PD with blasphemous vial so much, but never had her get close to affliction, so this really isn't a downside

I mean waiting to beat a boss until the orange trinket appears as the reward for beating it. Higher difficulties make it easier to find though.

Leper is the only one to get a good advantage from that, since there are less chances for him to end up in the back where he can't do anything.

Plague Doctor is canonically a woman. In DD2 it's easier to tell and the narrator refers to her as a woman.
