- Today we traveled to a Renaissance Faire! Huzzah!
...Or not! Because my first ever Renaissance Faire got CANCELED!
A powerful magician summoned wind that ruined everything. But it was still a great time with turkey legs, Dungeons and Dragons, tents, and especially jousting!

Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry it got cancelled, seems like you made the best of it though! Hope you get to go to another one soon. 🤠⚔️🍗🐎
I desperately need you to attend the Texas Renaissance Faire in Todd Mission if you end up in the area again. I can also recommend the one in Larkspur, Colorado. I haven't been to the one in Arizona in a good while, but I remember that one being good as well. It has become important to me that you have a better experience and you will certainly find it in these places.
I’ve been to the Todd Mission TX Renaissance Faire a few times before. I agree that one is good! I highly recommend it!
If two amazing folks are talking about it.... That must be HUGE!
@@ScoutmasterTravels The Texas Ren Faire is the largest ren faire in the world. Me and my family go every year. There’s different themed weekends and it’s open rain or shine. Doesn’t shut down. Well worth going.
I also recommend the Oklahoma Ren Faire at the Castle of Muskogee, they have a dedicated space with a Castle & surrounding grounds with themed areas like Italian Pavilion, Celtic Quarter, Pirates & Mermaid cove, Fairy Forest, etc. It's huge & it's all dedicated buildings & huts with a lot of trees for shade. Do wear good shoes, it's a lot of hiking on gravel & dirt winding paths. Lots of fun performances, musical numbers, juggling, magic, human chess, and fun games like archery & knife or axe throwing. They also have a campground area.
@BlueRoseFaery Holy cow! I've never been to Oklahoma, that sounds SO comprehensive and awesome!!
Im so sorry you had to experiences ANY of this.
Been to a few myself and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
Nasty horrible events
the holy crusaders shall strike again X)
HUZZAH!!!!
I worked Faires for 12 years back in the 1900's. Our home Faire was a Renaissance Faire where nothing in the way of period crafts for sale inside the gates was machine made. Anything sold in the Faire had to pass a jury of Faire Craftspeople to be eligible. The cast had to attend three weekends of workshops and classes and one Dress rehearsal weekend before the twelve weeks of the Faire's run and all costumes had to pass costume inspection by a jury of period historians. The site was beautiful. All oaks and glades. All buildings and shelters used period materials or convincing substitutes.
I acted, improved, danced, hawked, made chain mail and met my wife there. The acting and improv were free but high quality. The hawking earned me lunch most days from the booth I did it for. The dancing and Chain mail were paid gigs which helped with gas. The wife's long gone but I cherish the time we had and the romance of the place we met.
Oh my stars I miss all that but it changed and all those standards that made for such an awesome show were watered down and/or eliminated. Now it's just a creaky little fantasy faire with Bondage Troll and Pirate camps as features, plopped down on some dusty, ugly city land. Their ads still claim they're "The Original" but no, they're just what's left of the Original Faire where they go through the motions but don't appear to actually grasp or honor the history or the possibilities. Like Cargo cultists.
@CaptApple Thank you very much for sharing that with us. I got a small taste of what a thoughtfully-planned Ren Faire was like, and my condolences to both your wife and your local Faire's current arrangement. It always makes me sad to hear that standards degrade over time, and how the quality of experience was much greater years before I could witness them myself.
@@ScoutmasterTravels You'd have loved it. I worked Larkspur and Kenosha as well, back when. I've always heard great things about the Minnesota Faire. Something about an Italian bakery in a cake shaped building that opens up into a musical show. I hope that still exists. 30 year old review : ).
One time, it rained so hard on the weekend we went to MY Ren Faire that we had to take shelter under this very small tent a vendor nearby had set up.
One thing to expect at any Ren Faire in the country (or the world) is unpredictable weather
@SilverScribe85 Holy cow! I can only imagine sharing a small space with many people.... I guess you're right in that we should always expect the unexpected at events like that!
@@ScoutmasterTravels Of course, MY faire has a few buildings to hide out in as well; buildings that were built on the grounds overtime since the 80s.
Other faires, meanwhile are a bunch of tents; big and small
@@SilverScribe85 Built on the grounds, wow! That's over 50 years of Ren Faire history right there.
@@ScoutmasterTravels One of the biggest stages at our faire is the Globe Stage, which is modeled after the actual Globe Theater that Shakespeare's plays were performed in.
We also have a full-sized Chessboard area for the Human Chess Match
Damn that sucks that it got canceled when it was the main event for the link up! The When We Were Young Fest got canceled the weekend i wanted to go due to strong winds as well.
Curse you Tenguman!!!!
x )
@@ScoutmasterTravels Lmao, I considered making a BN wind reference too!
Hey, better luck next year right?
So true Fuze! Have you ever been to a Ren Faire?
@@ScoutmasterTravels I actually have been! Its been a long long time though.
$50?
That's exactly right Null!
Shoot me a DM on Discord ; )
@@ScoutmasterTravels just did
Eh, most ren fests are crap. Cheap Chinese made products, too many people, and too little renaissance. Most people roleplaying fantasy and anime.
It was my first time. Very curious if the bigger ones have a different vibe!
@@ScoutmasterTravels Stick to the smaller ones. Tex Ren Fest is horrible. It used to be good. Now it is just over crowded with people trying to scam money for pics out of you. My first time years back was amazing. There was actual blacksmiths making things. Most of the merch you bought were hand made. Now it's just Cheap Chinese junk.
