Ah yes, I was waiting for this one - Shoutout to Denmark's HoD for saying that they didn't qualify because their song was "too advanced for Eurovision" - I agree about "forced sass" but tbh I don't think the UK's entry is an example. Mae's stage presence was probably the *least* bad thing about that performance :V - I had no clue there was a Burning Daylight Drum & Bass remix lol wtf. I went and listened to it and it's definitely a vibe. Doesn't fit the song's lyrics at all tho - A bit harsh towards Unicorn, I feel. The song is definitely contrived but it's not THAT bad. 3rd place is definitely very generous, though. Also, I think she did the dance on the catwalk so that her backing dancers could come in from the sides - I guess in hindsight I can see how Cyprus got such a decent result. I can see the appeal of it for juries. - There should be a study done about how the fanbase collectively realized overtime that Mama ŠČ is actually extremely based. Same with Because of You, actually. - I think Serbia had audio issues tbh, you're right that Luke wasn't audible at all at points - Agree completely about France. I thought it had the same issue as the live performance of Concrete Heart in Germany's NF (if you haven't seen it, it's basically the same deal except the guy was on a giant rock). I've read that La Zarra is afraid of heights and if that's true, I have no clue what they were thinking putting her that high up. She did seem a bit nervous. - I'm very confident that Lithuania will get their first win soon. Probably within the next 10 years. Armenia too. - I'm going to put Spain's 5 televote points on a neon sign just in case anyone tries to tell me that juries should be scrapped entirely - (That said I'm also worried about Spain, they recently fired their HoD and replaced her with the one they had in 2017-2021 so they may enter a new flop era lol) - Latvia's entry doesn't hit me emotionally like it does many people, but based on instrumentation and vocals alone it definitely should have qualified. Even more depressing is that it almost certainly would have if they were in SF2. That's Norway 2016 levels of unlucky.

I didn't get why people ranking it that low. the same goes for Belgium and Croatia. Came here after your 2022 video, and while we definitely have different opinions, i seem to agree with you on "sad songs", such as the ones sent by Cyprus Switzerland or Sweden. The thing is, for songs that are supposed to be emotional i don't feel the emotion at all, as it feels forced. It's like the artist is saying to me "look I'm sad. Hey, you look, look, it's a sad song, right, look !" And it really doesn't click, doesn't feel genuine. Estonia this year, or France in 2021 really worked better for me when it comes to emotions.
When it comes to the ranking, i would have placed Romania higher (despite the most horrible staging I've ever seen), probably been less harsh with Israel (although it's not my favorite, i really appreciate how the song ends on this "u-ni-corn" climax), Austria higher as well (i actually liked their phlegmatic attitude, it was camp). Lithuania and Portugal were also in my top 4 with Spain and Austria, but you placed both of these quite high already. I had a harder time connecting with latvia (although I didn't "not like it", it's just in the middle of the pack for me), as well as with Belgium (it just didn't feel like it was giving what it was selling. Like even just within the final there are other songs that that vogue dancer would have been going off much better to i feel like) Oh and Czechia would have been higher as well, i actually loved the staging
What a great video! I share a lot of your feelings about this year. Spain has been my favourite ever since she won in Benidorm so you can imagine how cranky I was on Sunday after the final. The total predictability of the top 2 (I've been saying for months that Sweden would win the jury vote and Finland the televote, and that whoever sustained least damage in the other vote would win) and the crazy voting, indeed Latvia not qualifying and Australia getting 21 points, Spain getting only five... I will never forgive Europe for it. It was just very unsatisfying even though the show was great and the collaboration between the UK and Ukraine was at times really touching.
Spain was crap last year and was pushed by tone deaf juries out of the Bottom 5, just like they did with Olly Alexander this year. No one liked it, she was sexy, though. Agoney or Megara should have won. Maybe Vicco, but almost everyone was better than that, tbh.
