- 'The sad fact of the matter is, there are too many old people in the UK.'
Business and Finance Broadcaster, Michael Wilson, says we need to 'get more people into work and paying tax' to support pensioners after HMRC is set to send a tax demand to over 140,000 older people.

I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.
@SullivanSpencer67 That's actually quite impressive, I could use some Info on your FA, I am looking to make a change on my finances this year as well
@SullivanSpencer67 The crazy part is that those advisors are probably outperforming the market and raising good returns but some are charging fees over fees that drain your portfolio. Is this the case with yours too?
@SullivanSpencer67 I will give this a look, thanks a bunch for sharing.
Id rather just take my savings and sale of my home. To a safer country than the UK
They are putting vibes that the state pension in future will be a benefit and assessed accordingly to income. They have taken so many immigrants that in order to pay them benefits , the working class have to forfeit their benefits in order to have cash to pay people who have come into the country. Politicians are all for no themselves and not for the people
Don’t tax out pensioners cut overseas aid and stop paying illegal and economic immigrants any benifits and deport asap.

@@derelbriarley6786 He/She said it but I'm quite sure he/she doesn't seriously believe anyone will take such action. The way things are going on so many fronts in this country (and elsewhere) we're edging ever closer to civil unrest and violence on the streets.
We are all being taxed to keep immigrants in a good accommodation their meals, never mind us going without it the government stopped paying for all this we would be better off.
Why don't you not pay?
It’s not for that . Please educate yourself. The Tories spiffed the tax payers money on useless rubbish : PPE for instance , Rwanda scheme and so on .
Sounds like the immigrants are living better than some pensioners who will have to pay to keep those people in accomodation far better than how the pensioners live.

Nope - there are too many *IMMIGRANTS* in this country who haven't worked since the day they arrived. I spent 50 years paying for my state pension, and more years paying for my private pension - they haven't contributed a brass farthing.

Just to be clear- state pension contributions or National insurance is deducted before income tax is paid, so no tax has been paid previously on anyone's state pension. Currently your state pension has to exceed your yearly tax allowance before tax is paid or If you have a private pension as well, then the combined yearly total of both or all pensions is taxed at 20% on all pension allowances over your yearly tax allowance. After my state pension my tax allowance is around 300 meaning I have £3000 left / year before I pay tax. I have a second private pension and the tax is deducted monthly from that after an allowance of the £3000 left over from my tax allowance is deducted from my annual private pension. Any rise in state pension means I pay more tax from my private pension at 20%. If I were luck enough to have a pension that takes me into the next tax bracket of 40% then I would be very happy- but I dont.

We have to fund these young men that enter our country in small boats. Its only 8 billion!
Meanwhile older freeze.
We will be taxed on our State Pension, the amount of which is less than half the "Minimum Living Wage". It is all about taxing the poor, while the "Super Rich" have their "Offshore Accounts". Paying our Council Tax, Water Rates, Energy Bills and 20% VAT on almost everything we buy are already more than enough for pensioners having to pay. What an awful country this has become.
But you are not working! If you want more get a job like the rest of us!
Correct. Every piece of legislation is deliberately crafted with loopholes which the rich (including most MPs) can use to avoid paying the same taxes which the average person HAS to pay.
The whole thing is a SCAM.
If they wanted there to be no loopholes, there wouldn't be any.
They are there for the convenience of MPs and their rich buddies.
A thought for the day stop paying illegal immigrants then there will be plenty left for the old people that payed into the system !
Well somebody has got keep illegal immigrants in their free life style
🥱
Not just illegal ones...
@lbunnygordon1133 yes legal aswell I forgot that
Who the hell voted for Labour.
Wake up people.
I now pay 25% TAX on my £200 private pension.
I already pay tax on my pensions after working for 50 years .
£12,500pa Tax free allowance over that the tax man takes his bit regardless of being a pensioner or not. Great isnt it .
Yep I have worked full time since I was fifteen never been unemployed but paid into pension schemes and then get penalised, I realise now Im probably the idiot
@@pamelalittlechild2923you are not alone there are thousands of us played the game then get screwed at the end
@@pamelalittlechild2923 But you got full a tax tax rebate on your contributions into your pension plan - tax has to be levied at some point otherwise it's grossly unfair for those that work and DO have to pay tax.
Disgusting
Not at all. Pensioners have always paid tax and so they should if they earn sufficient income.
@@rodneyfungus8249 they have worked hard and payed taxes their whole life. This is wrong on so many levels and we all know where that money is gonna go anyway😂. On our raplacements coming on the boats
They should raise the base rate tax to £25,000 to help the poor
I have to pay £230 monthly in tax on my pensions, fkn disgusting.
Its not that pensions have gone up so much it because the *TAX FREE ALLOWANCE HAS'NT GONE UP AT ALL.*
We have the lowest state pensions in the EU, Farage had the right Idea raise tax threashold to 20 grand

MAINLY ON WARS they wouldn't need to increase the tax take. The very same pensioners that you say are 'too many' are the ones that have been grafting and paying into the system for the last forty or more years, what happened to all that surplus cash that they paid in?
It's been money laundered through Ukraine. Does anybody account for it. I didn't think so.
Absolutely disgusting disrespectful disgraceful old people are living on poverty lines but government will send money over seas immigrants in hotels shameful disgusting behaviour
Nothing new here. I've been paying tax on my pension ever since I retired.
We get it Michael. You don't need to repeat it twice that there are too many of us oldies. I apologise for working from 17 until 68, keeping myself slim, fit and as healthy as I can and for still being alive. Take note youngsters because if you are lucky you will be made to feel a burden on society in years to come.
Whats the point in a pension increase if the tax system is going to take it away from you.
My state pension just about pays the tax on my company pension
The politicians have made us feel stupid to have worked hard and been prudent and tried to avoid living on benefits in our old age.
My Elderley Mother in Law already pays tax on her pension, it is not fair to tax them a second time. Government need to stop giving our money away to foreign countries, and spending on useless schemes.
They also need to thouraghly investigate foreign fraudulent dwp claims which are rife. We could save 500 Billion a year by not paying immigrant benefits.
It was Rishi Sunak who froze the tax thresholds when he was Chancellor. There is no reason why the new government can't adjust the thresholds. The State Pension is part of a person's taxable income but since it has been smaller than the personal allowance, no tax has been payable. A few years ago there was an additional personal allowance for people over 65 and it might be cheaper to reintroduce that rather than HMRC spending time trying to collect very small amounts of tax from those whose only source of income is the State Pension.
Two points, this is money that has already been taxed.....! And, for all you, currently non pension people that are clapping your silly little hands together at this, what starts now will be FAR worse when you reach pensionable age. I wonder if you'll still think its such a great idea then...?
Why don’t the people on benefits pay tax they are getting more money than pensioners, pensioners are on less than minimum wage
Actually that's a lie
Totally agree, some on the equivalent of 25,000 a year sat on their backsides, but all tax free. Then the free boiler, etc, etc.A pensioner on a modest income, will still be taxed, and forced to subsidise all these gold plated civil service pensions. As well as that, why are we paying for stupid people to go to university to study for a degree, where the chance of employment is minimal.
Well done to anybody who voted for labour.. give yourself a clap
A slap you mean
I got a tax bill as a pensioner under the conservatives so it’s both parties I’m afraid
@@Annie-yv7rc what was the tax for exactly? Yes I agree it doesn’t matter which party as it’s not the prime minister in charge but the bankers above
Pay tax as you earn and the meagre amount of pension is to be taxed too... Something to look forward to after 50 years of hard labour (working labour)
I guess someone has to subsidise the migrant mismanagement.
whoever voted them in hope you're happy with yourselves
As a soon to be pensioner - I think the triple lock is extraordinarily generous, and if that means one now has to pay income tax, so be it. Please stop moaning.
Too many old people! The people who build the country. It is a huge amount of money if you don't have it. Anti humanist language. If only there was a way to save £8 million a day. Or, tax the increasing number of billionaires and multi millionaires.
So pensioners may only get 80% of the tripple lock. So in reality there is no tripple lock😊
They need to tax retirees in order to pay for immigrants. It is as simple as that. £9,000.000,000 a year is needed just for illegals, ignoring the ten million sub-economic legal immigrants.
Just imagine the tax reduction if we did not have immigration!
The easy solution to stop the boats is to process the claims (reject them all) in France.
Do not forget that Starmer has already given 90,000 of them amnesty and is allowing them to stay.
The fact of the matter actually is. , if everyone has voted REFORM, then your tax threshold would have changed , it's got nothing to do with triple lock or increase in your income. . pensioners could have been exempt from tax , either by proper laws , or change in tax threshold , instead of starting to pay tax at level of just over 12,500. It would have been better for all pensioners if starting rate was with reform UK party pledge of 20,000. Big difference , plus helping out those on low incomes , it's got nothing to do with the number of pensioners living longer , what a load of croc , try stopping the boats bleeding our benefit system dry .
Here in the United States the government has been taxing pensions for decades . Of course, this affects the poor , the destitute, the handicapped the hardest .
_There are too many immigrants in the UK._
lol, don’t be daft, there’s plenty of room for more!!!
They don't have to pay into a pension scheme or tax because they are all illegal conservative and labour are f n useless
Far too many, the country cannot accomadate them nor afford to keep on feeding/housing them
@@ClactonCuun In the Channel.
my brother who died last year was getting over £18,000 a year on benefits tax free from all sources, so why is the state pension so low and earning a small amount above it is now taxed yet benefits are not
Most people on pensions earned more than £18,000/year, so paid tax on the amount above the threshold. Income is untaxed below the threshold, so most benefit recipients aren't taxed, and the assumption is disabled and unemployed people are unlikely to be able to magic the extra £10,000-20,000/year on top, as they would if actually working as more than a McDonald's guy.
People on benefits eventually transition to pensions, and will then be liable for them if they receive enough, through private pensions, but that's unlikely to be the case for long-term benefit recipients to have paid in for private pensions or superannuation. Potentially lifetime benefits like PIP are not taxed.
I worked supporting people and part of that was helping with benefits. The benefit cap in 23000 a year untaxed.some people I worked with got that. Then on top of that was council tax relief worth about 1200 a year, free school meals for children. Currently 14 a week per child , so for 3 kids that’s 3 x meals £42 a week, 168 a month, then dentist and prescriptions free. None of that package is taxed. Yet pensions are. It’s disgraceful.
I might add that that example above if it was a net wage would be a gross 32 k a year job, and yet we are told those on Universal credit are on the lowest incomes in society and are in poverty .
Your brother must of been on pips. I never had pips.

perhaps the govt should ensure every turkish barber, nailbar, carwash, taxi driver, food carry out and every other swindling entity that is cash in hand starts to actually record all its takings and pay the correct amount of tax! - my towns high street has 8 turkish barbers and all are always empty, yet they can magically stay in business - we are losing billions in tax receipts and the govt is doing nothing about it
A lot of employed people send money from their salaries to family who live in poor countries
I support over 66 age pensioners but it annoys me those who give up work before this age when they're not sick, it's unaffordable and they should still pay national insurance till age 66.
Notice how they're looking after the well off?
The richer they are, the better they are looked after by the government.
