I'm doing a pantry challenge too and on Friday we had a Panera night. A few random jars of soup, big salad, grilled cheese and folks can enjoy a 'you pick 2' dinner. It was fun and I cleared out some space in the freezer!
That is an awesome idea! I love to do a "charcuterie" board (not always strictly the usual charcuterie stuff) to use up random veg and bits of meats and cheeses. My family loves it. They eat leftovers much easier that way.
I lost my job in October and I’m so glad we had the foresight to start stockpiling years ago. As prices rise, we are dipping into our pantry stores more and more, and when we see deals on pantry items, we keep stocking to try to fight inflation as much as we can. Thanks for the tips Christine ❤️
Sorry to hear you lost your job but the same thing happened to me when our jobs shut down for COVID. I , like you had a good stockpile in my pantry, bills paid, money set aside for the following month's bills. What a blessing it has been. I now shop clearance, sales, discounts - my shops are smaller, my pantry and freezer full and I save money ! Good luck
Love your videos, Christine! Where did you get your freezer dividers?? I've been looking and calling around, I need them to make my freezer more manageable! 😂 My life more manageable so I know what I have in there! HELP!! Thanks!
Fabulous that the kids are getting in the kitchen. My grandson is 7, I bought an egg cooker and taught him how to use the toaster, he loves making his own soft boiled eggs for breakfast. Buttering the toast is a work in progress :)
We started letting our girls help me cook at about 4 or 5, then when they were in high school I taught them how to can for entering the “super cook super canner” portion of the county fair(18 items needed to be ready at the same time to qualify, so lots of canning 😀). It was my sneaky way of making sure they could both cook well and preserve nature’s bounty.

We are a family of 4. We eat good dinners most nights, but this was fun having a smorgasbord. And none of it went to waste. I love these videos.

Hi, Christine! I love the idea of teaching the kids to meal plan and cook especially the boys. I feel like many moms teach their daughters to cook and shop, but don’t always do the same for their sons (at least not traditionally). However, it is a wonderful practice. Now I want some hamburgers, lol.
Omg you two are the absolute best! A future collab would be soooooo amazing! Any time I try to watch similar types of videos im always comparing them to you guys and no one ever even comes close.
So glad your showing your kids how to cook. Honestly when I met my husband at 23 he didn’t know how to cook anything. Didn’t even know how to do jacket spuds. His mum said it was just easier for me to do it all. I think everyone should know at least the basics x
Awesome! Teaching your kids to cook and be self-sufficient is fantastic. Since you are soon to be approaching the college years, be sure to teach them how to do laundry! I can't tell you the number of moms I saw giving last-minute instructions/lessons on laundry while moving their "kids" into college. Four kids of my own - and each freshman year of move in, I'd always shake my head in amazement, seeing college freshman look at a washing machine in bewilderment, moms at their side, showing them how to do laundry. 18 years old and not a clue how to clean their clothes! I also taught my children to cook. One is an excellent cook and likes to try new things. Another daughter made stroganoff every time it was her turn to make supper. I love love LOVE that you are teaching your boys to cook! My MIL taught my husband to cook when he was young. It has come in handy. I have been advocating for a kid cooking video. This is a great idea for freeing up time for mom and teaches new skills. THANK YOU for making it clear the tasting spoon goes into the sink - it is gross to see folks double dip their spoons then serve the food to others
I started this last week of December! So glad things are no longer falling out when I open the freezer. My toes appreciate it! Also using up my overstocked pantry. Win/win!
I don’t know why it makes me so emotional to see people cooking with their kids, but it does. It’s a skill I missed out on growing up even though my mother (and grandma) are phenomenal cooks. I’ve struggled my whole adult life trying to learn and lacking confidence in my skills. I’m working on it and trying to get my kiddos involved too, even though they’re both really small and not that helpful just yet 😆 I’ve watched a handful of your videos over the years and just recently subscribed! Glad you’re making these videos. Cooking at home is so important and you make it less intimidating, and your budget videos are super helpful. Thanks for all you do.
I remember when I was nine a family friend gave me a vintage Betty crocker cook book for boys and girls. My aunt gave me an apron and pampered chef cookbook that year too. I am so thankful for those gifts as it was the beginning of learning a skill that I use everyday 23 years later. Love your content Christine. It cheers me up and motivates me! ❤️❤️
I am cleaning out EVERYTHING but not because I really wanted to do this at this point but because my big LG refrigerator is dead dead dead. I have a much smaller refrigerator (read: no ice maker) in my garage. My friends go RVing in their Airstream and loaned me a countertop ice maker which has saved my life. So I am going thru stuff I have in pantry & need to use up.
Get about 1-2pounds of ground beef and cook it with your favorite seasonings; I used garlic, salt, an onion powder.. then when it’s almost done… add some broccoli and bell peppers 🫑 and mix till done.. and then make some white rice on the side… it’s so delicious. My husband adds teriyaki sauce- personal choice. But we ate this for dinner and it was delicious!
I was taught to "sweeten" a tomato sauce simmer a whole carrot in the pan. The carrot absorbs the acid. Remove before serving....the carrot definitly takes sour .
Wagyu beef is the best type you can ever buy. It’s literally luxury beef. There are some ranchers here in Wyoming that raise cows for Wagyu and they are pampered.
I’m currently teaching my partner to cook! He was never taught as a kid, and is also dyspraxic so struggles with the coordination and organisation of cooking, but he’s making great progress!
This was literally my project over the weekend. I defrosted my deep freezer and deep cleaned my fridge. I started rattling off meal ideas in my head so quick. I couldn’t believe how much we had that was forgotten about. I had intended to go grocery shopping (hence why I buckled down and did the mass clean out to begin with) and dropped several things off it.
I call it "well-prepared". ;) Because it's not around for ever, yes you constantly stock back up, but it gets used and rotated! It's not for nought! :) Hope Haley heals well.
Hawaiian Sesame Chicken in the crock pot... Had random can of pineapple in juice, mango puree in a jar, a bunch of chicken thighs and frozen garlic and green onions. So yes, absolutely on board to cleaning out the fridge/freezer and pantry.
Except for meat my fridge and pantry has been bursting at it's seems. When New Year's hit and my son tested positive for Covid I was grateful for the pantry so I could avoid the store. Luckily no one else in our family got sick and he's fine now. I placed a Thrive Order this week and got 3 things for free! I love Thrive. I initially joined because I have food allergies but the whole family has found things they love.
I love that type of waffle iron too! Had one for ages before it finally stopped working. I found a comparable one from Black and Decker and it works great! Love that you’re getting your kids involved in the cooking. It’s a great skill to have😊
I enjoy that same waffle maker! A wedding gift in 1975! It is great to make 8 grilled cheese sandwiches at a time! With tomato soup or chili of course!
Good for the boys, my parents did that. And my dad taught me how to work on my car, change tires, change oil, what to look at when buying a used car. He even taught 3 of his granddaughters
I have that same epicure guacamole bag in my pantry been there for a few years now. Got to use it up! What a great focus to have everyone learn to cook, so thankful my parents taught me to cook and bake as well as laundry and how to change a tire etc. Great life skills
I’m not doing the pantry challenge. I just wanted to let you know that I love your videos. Your so real, your husband is great, your son’s are amazing, and Hailey(?) is your mini me! Keep up the great work!!
Fun fact: the place where the Lehi Roller Mills is in 2022 is so developed right now; grocery stores, boutiques, other shopping, but in the 1980's is the field where Kevin Bacon dances in the movie Footloose.
I hope Hailey is OK. I've been on a low buy for meat in the hopes of emptying out the freezer. Actually starting to make progress and a Costco sized bag of frozen goods can fit in now! So I just turned leftover roast chicken into chicken parmesan stuffed shells (used up a box of shells in the process), used up a jar of marinara sauce, finished off some parm & got a bag of cheese out of the freezer. The only thing I bought was ricotta cheese for it. (Yes, I'm using up roast chicken so I can get another roast chicken so I can use up bread in the freezer to make dressing...totally logical...) I want to make cookies, but I don't want to do the dishes so the m&ms, white chips & pudding mix may end up back in the pantry. The weather on Wed (my next cooking day) looks cruddy, so I may pull out stew meat & do a slow cooker stew...that'll get a can of tomatoes & jar of mushrooms out of the pantry too. Ugh, bought fresh green beans that need using first...um try pomegranate salmon with green beans & brussel sprouts. After the stew is eaten up, I'm thinking a pork stir fry to get a can of mandarin oranges & bag of frozen sugar snap peas used up. Wait, I need to eat that broccoli...I may go buy heavy cream & make an olive garden chicken Alfredo thing... Ok, salmon, Alfredo chicken, stew, pork stir fry. And the only things I need to buy are brussel sprouts & heavy cream.
I LOVE that my favorite creators quote each other. I follow you, Kim(the wads), Sarah(our tribe of many) and Jamerrill (large family table) religiously! LOL so seeing Kim’s video clip pop up made me smile. Even funnier because I follow all these moms and I’m 31 and single with no kids but I love you all so much.
I agree with you on adding suger to pasta sauce. I like that your are teaching your kids to cook. Very important. Teaching them to do laundry is also very important in my opinion. Our daughter (after she moved out on her own) thanked us for teaching her own to cook and do various chores like doing dishes, laundry, mopping, etc. I thought I was going to faint dead over! LOL
Loved seeing your sons preparing a food. Always warms my heart ❤ plus if they pick out what to make they are more likely to eat it. Plus your kids seem to really enjoy most things which is nice!❤
I’m not sure what life’s like in the rest of the World but here in the Midwest USA there are multiple new food safety recalls nearly every day. I’m staring to get a little afraid to grocery shop. Summer is to far away to grow our own. How are things there in Idaho and for everyone else watching? Our recalls include several frozen veg, ground beef, baby formula, bagged lettuce, clamshell spinach, etc etc. It feels like more than I’ve seen in the past. Feedback please!
more of these please with random stuff from the freezer and pantry. Odd stuff, helps with ideas for dinner. Thank you :) I am glad to see the kids learning how to cook. My children have been self sufficient from the age of 10. They are in charge of their own laundry too. My son is a chef at a Restaurant because i tought him the basics early on!!!
LOL! The bananas made me laugh out loud. I remember that video. We are buying a 1/4 beef. First time :) I'm excited and cleaning out my freezers too. I love the guest appearance. She's one of my favorite YTers. Great video. The boys are doing super.
Doing the clean out the freezer and pantry. ! It’s amazing what I forget that I have. This weeks freezer challenge: haddock, sweet potatoes, cauliflower. Curried ham and rice, a steak (already eaten! Today), honey baked chicken, rice a roni, cauliflower, and steak fajitas! Precooked everything and put them into containers to make my work week easier. Also made 6 egg sandwiches for breakfasts and prepackaged some things for lunch for a quick and easy week!! I’m a nurse so prepping makes my life easier and saves me money so I don’t stop at the drive through! Oh also whipped up some cinnamon rolls!!
I agree baking soda can ruin a red sauce in a hot second and become soapy tasting. My hubby has to watch his sugar so I either cook all red sauce with a hunk of carrot or grate carrots 🥕 into all red sauce . Carrots cut acid.
something me and my sis do is use the old up first that way the stock is newer stuff and less goes bad for example cornbread mix with the soonest expiration date fixed first ditto for frozen and canned veggies, etc. great video as usual
this!! i started using a sharpie and dating the boxes / cans so I can put the soonest dates in front to use up first. I used to shove stuff in and who knows what needed used up quicker now I can see at a glance what corn needs used!
When you said I promise I workout, the air is just thin up here, I laughed so hard. Since laughter lengthens your laugh I want to thank you. Have a great week.
I went BOSS on a veggie soup pantry/freezer clean out today! My mom sent me a UA-cam video of a cabbage veggie soup she wanted (has the Rona) and I was like "I literally have ALL the vegetables except the cabbage". Thanks to having some chicken bouillon cubes and the trusty salt and pepper, it turned out great. Probably hard to mess up veggie soup, but I would've in the past before watching these videos!!!
Yep, definitely doing a pantry/freezer cleanout for January! We are a hunting household and we have about 300lbs of moose still headed our way. We had all our steaks and roasts (the big cuts) done by butcher already and in the freezer so I need to: A. make room for the rest of the meat that is on its way B. we need to use up premade meals and frozen leftovers sooner rather than later. This week we have had some frozen "mystery soups" as I like to call them, instapot carnitas, and a bison tip roast with mashed butternut squash and carrots that I grew in my garden! Next week will be much the same! IF it is nice enough ever (Canadian cold snaps) we have some bison t-bone steaks I would like to grill this month also.
It's so great you're teaching your sons how to cook! My sister and I were recently talking about how her husband and his siblings didn't learn to cook until they were adults when she and I were definitely starting to cook eggs and simple things around 4th/5th grade and more complete meals in middle and high school. Both my sister and I are pretty good cooks. She's more of a recipe follower, and I'm a measure with your heart. lol
We call it pantry diving. Although it’s just my son and I and he’s a picky eater, so it can be difficult to make things he likes. But when he likes something he can eat like you wouldn’t believe! We are having crockpot roast tomorrow. His fav. I still have food from my pandemic hoard I really need to use.

That is so cool teaching your sons to cook, got a kick out of him slicing the garlic (I think that's what it was) he was so darn sweet slicing so slowly that I had to laugh and share with my hubby! The meal he cooked looked so good! Thanks for sharing!
I never want to miss even a moment of your videos... but I have strayed. I'll just have to binge watch. I love your energy, your enthusiasm and all your great ideas. I also love that your kids embrace ALL foods, including vegetables!💕
I love these videos. They are just so real. Go to your pantry, freezer, fridge and see what you can make with what you have. I have a bag of frozen shredded zucchini, one cottage cheese, a bunch of lasagne noodles and 2 packs of ground chicken, throw in some milk and cheese and I will make a huge lasagne with very little extra ingredients.
I'm doing a pantry challenge too and on Friday we had a Panera night. A few random jars of soup, big salad, grilled cheese and folks can enjoy a 'you pick 2' dinner. It was fun and I cleared out some space in the freezer!
Thanks for sharing! This will be amazing for me to do since we have so many random soups.
Love this idea! We did a "hotel" style breakfast buffet bar to finish up remnants of waffles, cereal, etc. Love the idea of a Panera night.
That is an awesome idea! I love to do a "charcuterie" board (not always strictly the usual charcuterie stuff) to use up random veg and bits of meats and cheeses. My family loves it. They eat leftovers much easier that way.

It is literally the most delicious steak I have EVER tasted.
I’m currently teaching my partner to cook! He was never taught as a kid, and is also dyspraxic so struggles with the coordination and organisation of cooking, but he’s making great progress!
Christine, your kids are awesome!
Thank you so much!
Having your kids as sous-chef is a great idea. Boys especially often get forgotten when it comes to cooking and food prep.
Posted a minute ago and the perfect video! I'm doing a pantry and freezer cleanout this week too, get everything out and start fresh
That sounds good!
Lol, I have that exact style waffle iron! Received as a wedding gift in 1982. The handle is broken but it still works like a champ!
OMG... the Kim flash had me rolling. I love her SO MUCH.
Thank you for being a great parent and teaching your kids to cook. It's the basics, you have to eat and food tastes better at home.
Good luck to Hailey in her recovery!
Teaching your kids to cook/bake and to be confident in the kitchen is a great skill to pass on to your kids .
I loved seeing Kimberley whisk💞
I LOVE how you run your family! You are so inspirational!
I LOVE watching you teach your kids to cook! (And other home life skills.) More of these, please!
Loved that ode to Kimberly Whisk @16:52!
Kimberly Whisk! 🥰
Fun fact: the place where the Lehi Roller Mills is in 2022 is so developed right now; grocery stores, boutiques, other shopping, but in the 1980's is the field where Kevin Bacon dances in the movie Footloose.
I have also add honey to canned tomatoes to help cut the acidity.
(Yes, I'm using up roast chicken so I can get another roast chicken so I can use up bread in the freezer to make dressing...totally logical...)
I want to make cookies, but I don't want to do the dishes so the m&ms, white chips & pudding mix may end up back in the pantry.
Better Kimberly Whisk that pudding! 😂😂
LOL!
LOL
I am cleaning out my pantry and freezers as well! $30 per week! Turns out that is really easy and kind of fun to be creative and try new things
Loved seeing your sons preparing a food. Always warms my heart ❤ plus if they pick out what to make they are more likely to eat it. Plus your kids seem to really enjoy most things which is nice!❤
When you said whisk it and Kim popped up 😍😂😂😂 love her so much 🥰 2 of my favorite people on the tube 🙂
We had meatballs in marinara sauce from the freezer. I had and we added ricotta, mozzarella and rice. It was really good.
Onions , garlic and green pepper would be good in the baked beans. I also always add a little mustard. I sometimes add beer (always in my chili.)
I add carrot for acidity....throw it in the processor add to sauce..extra veggies in the meal...win win...
January is a low spend month for us.
We are eating our way through the freezer and pantry.
It is a great way to do a spending reset.
My mom had all of us in the kitchen at a young age. We all know how to cook pretty well. We all love to be in the kitchen!!
Great video! Your children are the SPITTING IMAGE of your husband!
Great video! I keep my fridges/freezers stocked from clearance hauls,, etc...its great to see fresh ideas!! Kimberly whisk popping up was hilarious! Hope yall have a great day in the snow. We got 0.0000623 inches here in Central GA yesterday- ha! Julie
I think this is so great. I honestly don't know how to cook at all so skills like this are great to learn.
that insert of "Kimberly Whisk" was hilarious
My sister's mother in-law, from England 🇬🇧, use to say,
"Never stir with a knife, you'll stir up strife".
😛🤣😂😛
my favorite kind of videos
What a talented, handsome son you have! That dinner looked amazing!
I'm doing a freezer/pantry challenge this month and it is sooo satisfying
Love your videos! My grandmother taught us how to cook growing up so we could fend for ourselves! Never a bad thing!
The Mississippi pot roast is my favorite way to cook roast. It makes it so tender and the peppers are amazing! Great video Christine!
