I'm doing a pantry challenge too and on Friday we had a Panera night. A few random jars of soup, big salad, grilled cheese and folks can enjoy a 'you pick 2' dinner. It was fun and I cleared out some space in the freezer!
Thanks for sharing! This will be amazing for me to do since we have so many random soups.
Love this idea! We did a "hotel" style breakfast buffet bar to finish up remnants of waffles, cereal, etc. Love the idea of a Panera night.
That is an awesome idea! I love to do a "charcuterie" board (not always strictly the usual charcuterie stuff) to use up random veg and bits of meats and cheeses. My family loves it. They eat leftovers much easier that way.
Such a clever idea!!!
So smart!
The fact that you put a clip of Kim in here is everything
haha! Glad you liked that!
Love seeing parents teaching their kids skills like cooking; it really is a skill that everyone should have.
I agree. It’s a survival skill.
I lost my job in October and I’m so glad we had the foresight to start stockpiling years ago. As prices rise, we are dipping into our pantry stores more and more, and when we see deals on pantry items, we keep stocking to try to fight inflation as much as we can. Thanks for the tips Christine ❤️
Sorry to hear you lost your job but the same thing happened to me when our jobs shut down for COVID. I , like you had a good stockpile in my pantry, bills paid, money set aside for the following month's bills. What a blessing it has been. I now shop clearance, sales, discounts - my shops are smaller, my pantry and freezer full and I save money ! Good luck
Yes agree go luck getting another job god bless you and your family 💘 😊 👪 🙏 😀 ❤ 💘
Love your videos, Christine! Where did you get your freezer dividers?? I've been looking and calling around, I need them to make my freezer more manageable! 😂 My life more manageable so I know what I have in there! HELP!! Thanks!
@@jillgott6567 thanks very much. I’m able to work as a freelance writer, but I took a 75% pay cut. Definitely sobering! So blessed and thankful ❤️
@@hello-vs4me thank you! I’m doing modest work and just making ends meet. God has me in the hollow of his hand ❤️
That is one of my main goals for my son, that he can cook and clean for himself. It's not always up to the woman:)
We are a family of 4. Two days ago we had salad before it went bad, a few hot dogs, 3 frozen garlic bread slices, 2 corn dogs, half a bag of green beans, a can of fruit cocktail and some potato chips. We eat good dinners most nights, but this was fun having a smorgasbord. And none of it went to waste. I love these videos.
Ha, Christine did not disappoint! Christine, "We don't want our food to expire." Also Christine... "Look at that Best Buy Date, 2017." 😂
Best childhood memories was learning to cook. Way to go mom! It takes SO MUCH PATIENCE!
It’s a long process but it’s so fun to spend time with my kids like this!!
Mine was as well! I let my daughter help a ton. Recently let her start using a knife with supervision and I panic still the whole time. Lol
@@hannahkayee831 My daughter is 15 and I still cringe when she uses a knife. 😬
I love that you're teaching all your kids to cook! it's such a blessing to not enter adulthood totally clueless!
Ahhh, yess. A Kimberly Whisk cameo! 😂 Great ideas for pantry meals!
Fabulous that the kids are getting in the kitchen. My grandson is 7, I bought an egg cooker and taught him how to use the toaster, he loves making his own soft boiled eggs for breakfast. Buttering the toast is a work in progress :)
I’m going through a really hard time right now (pet hit by a car a few days ago) & your videos bring so much positivity into my life! I really appreciate your humor and upbeatedness (apparently that’s not a word..)!
We started letting our girls help me cook at about 4 or 5, then when they were in high school I taught them how to can for entering the “super cook super canner” portion of the county fair(18 items needed to be ready at the same time to qualify, so lots of canning 😀). It was my sneaky way of making sure they could both cook well and preserve nature’s bounty.
Love this! I let my daughter start helping at a very young age as well. She is now 8 and loves it even more.
YES! You leveled up on mom points! Thank you for sharing this. ❤
Smart idea. I’ll be 69!!!! tomorrow and can’t cook worth a darn because my mother never showed me anything. She went back to work when I was nine and I didn’t ever learn a darn thing.
🤷♀️
@@lisamartin3346 My mom was a great cook too, wouldn't let us in the kitchen. I had to teach myself and be willing to make mistakes. Learn a couple basic recipes & expand off of those. It's never too late to learn.
@@micheleolson9914 You’re right! Until they put you in a box in the ground. Have you got any ideas to share on what those techniques might be? I cannot even plan dinners cause I have no recipes under my belt. Thanks
I LOVED the Kimberly clip… “WHISK IT” 😂
Hi, Christine! I love the idea of teaching the kids to meal plan and cook especially the boys. I feel like many moms teach their daughters to cook and shop, but don’t always do the same for their sons (at least not traditionally). However, it is a wonderful practice. Now I want some hamburgers, lol.
I have a 1964 Betty Crocker cook book , that I kept from 7th grade! I was 12!
I don’t know why it makes me so emotional to see people cooking with their kids, but it does. It’s a skill I missed out on growing up even though my mother (and grandma) are phenomenal cooks. I’ve struggled my whole adult life trying to learn and lacking confidence in my skills. I’m working on it and trying to get my kiddos involved too, even though they’re both really small and not that helpful just yet 😆 I’ve watched a handful of your videos over the years and just recently subscribed! Glad you’re making these videos. Cooking at home is so important and you make it less intimidating, and your budget videos are super helpful. Thanks for all you do.
Awesome! Teaching your kids to cook and be self-sufficient is fantastic. Since you are soon to be approaching the college years, be sure to teach them how to do laundry! I can't tell you the number of moms I saw giving last-minute instructions/lessons on laundry while moving their "kids" into college. Four kids of my own - and each freshman year of move in, I'd always shake my head in amazement, seeing college freshman look at a washing machine in bewilderment, moms at their side, showing them how to do laundry. 18 years old and not a clue how to clean their clothes! Oh my goodness!
I also taught my children to cook. One is an excellent cook and likes to try new things. Another daughter made stroganoff every time it was her turn to make supper. Her husband says her stroganoff is the best! My son can make the best gravy and made the whole turkey dinner for Christmas. His six children were impressed with his skills and helped him too!
My sister's mother in-law, from England 🇬🇧, use to say,
"Never stir with a knife, you'll stir up strife".
😛🤣😂😛
I am so happy that you are teaching your sons how to cook and prepare meals. I did the same thing with my son and he has turned out to be such a wonderful cook and responsible man. 🤗
It's nice seeing kids help out in the kitchen. Knowing how to feed yourself is one of those skills everyone should learn.
that insert of "Kimberly Whisk" was hilarious
Fun fact: the place where the Lehi Roller Mills is in 2022 is so developed right now; grocery stores, boutiques, other shopping, but in the 1980's is the field where Kevin Bacon dances in the movie Footloose.
Better Kimberly Whisk that pudding! 😂😂
LOL!
I’ve finally found a UA-cam vid series that’s is truly worth following. Thank you.
I’m doing 1 grocery store trip a month and no going back till next month . I do grab milk if out before hand that’s it . Trying to use what I buy for the month and it helps me eat what I buy. Trying not to waste anything it really does make u think outside the box and I’m loving it .
I have been advocating for a kid cooking video. This is a great idea for freeing up time for mom and teaches new skills. THANK YOU for making it clear the tasting spoon goes into the sink - it is gross to see folks double dip their spoons then serve the food to others
I remember when I was nine a family friend gave me a vintage Betty crocker cook book for boys and girls. My aunt gave me an apron and pampered chef cookbook that year too. I am so thankful for those gifts as it was the beginning of learning a skill that I use everyday 23 years later. Love your content Christine. It cheers me up and motivates me! ❤️❤️
We’re also cooking from our freezer/ pantry the next two weeks! Trying to make room for a half a hog and a quarter of beef! Also, love the nod to Kimberly Whhisk 😝
I had my kids each cook dinner once a week throughout some of middle school and all of HS. I told them it was so I would know when they left my house that they would know how to cook more than just ramen and mac n cheese.
One took up baking bread while in college.
Mississippi pot roast I always shred and put on top of the mashed potatoes. Left overs on a hoagie or hawaiian roll.
Loved the little clip of mrs Kimberly Whisk - she is so entertaining to watch😀
I cleaned out my refrigerator last week and it wasn't bad since I keep up with it but the pantry was another story. This weekend I tackled the pantry. It's the first time in 10 years that I actually took everything out and looked at every expiration dates.. I found stuff with 2014 expiration dates! 🙄
I ended up tossing a lot of spices and made an online grocery delivery to only replace stuff I actually use. Why did I have 2 full large bottles of vegetable oil and 5 and 1/2 bottles of maple syrup? I'm giving away some syrup since it doesn't go bad but it was a real eye opener. I can't wait to cook where I don't have to dig in the pantry to find what I need and to save some money on not buying duplicates of anything that I already have.
If I find old spices, I double the amount called for in the recipe. But not with Old Bay!
Spices keep forever, just lose their punch a bit but don't go off, so you can always use them past the date.
I love love LOVE that you are teaching your boys to cook! My MIL taught my husband to cook when he was young. It has come in handy. I love to cook and DO cook almost every day, but there have been times where I have been Ill or recovering from surgery and he has taken over. Not to mention we love cooking TOGETHER sometimes and other times he just feels like making something for himself. We call those nights "Fend for yourself" dinners. The other night he made himself a steak with a salad and baked potato. He's learned the "reverse sear" method. I tasted the and steak it was better than ANY restaurant I've tried.
So glad your showing your kids how to cook. Honestly when I met my husband at 23 he didn’t know how to cook anything. Didn’t even know how to do jacket spuds. His mum said it was just easier for me to do it all. I think everyone should know at least the basics x
What is a jacket spud?
@@MonkeyGirlNessa jacket potato very basic potato cooked in oven till it goes crispy skin and soft inside
@@christinegorton8801 oooh haha. I haven't heard that phrase. Thanks!
@@MonkeyGirlNessa I’m from the UK so very common here
@@christinegorton8801 I know from the listening to the podcast “shagged, married & annoyed” 😂
Kimberly Whisk! 🥰
I am cleaning out EVERYTHING but not because I really wanted to do this at this point but because my big LG refrigerator is dead dead dead. I have a much smaller refrigerator (read: no ice maker) in my garage. My friends go RVing in their Airstream and loaned me a countertop ice maker which has saved my life. So I am going thru stuff I have in pantry & need to use up.
I’m doing a pantry challenge this month as well. I’m picking items out of the freezer to use every week. This week I only needed to buy two ingredients.
That's so awesome!
I was taught to "sweeten" a tomato sauce simmer a whole carrot in the pan. The carrot absorbs the acid. Remove before serving....the carrot definitly takes sour .
I call it "well-prepared". ;) Because it's not around for ever, yes you constantly stock back up, but it gets used and rotated! It's not for nought! :) Hope Haley heals well.
Wagyu beef is the best type you can ever buy. It’s literally luxury beef. There are some ranchers here in Wyoming that raise cows for Wagyu and they are pampered.
It is literally the most delicious steak I have EVER tasted.
I’m not sure what life’s like in the rest of the World but here in the Midwest USA there are multiple new food safety recalls nearly every day. I’m staring to get a little afraid to grocery shop. Summer is to far away to grow our own. How are things there in Idaho and for everyone else watching? Our recalls include several frozen veg, ground beef, baby formula, bagged lettuce, clamshell spinach, etc etc. It feels like more than I’ve seen in the past. Feedback please!
I always sear my roast before adding it to a crockpot or instant pot.
Get about 1-2pounds of ground beef and cook it with your favorite seasonings; I used garlic, salt, an onion powder.. then when it’s almost done… add some broccoli and bell peppers 🫑 and mix till done.. and then make some white rice on the side… it’s so delicious. My husband adds teriyaki sauce- personal choice. But we ate this for dinner and it was delicious!
I started this last week of December! So glad things are no longer falling out when I open the freezer. My toes appreciate it! Also using up my overstocked pantry. Win/win!
Omg I'm dying!!! You are the ultimate!!!
😂😂 glad you liked it
Omg you two are the absolute best! A future collab would be soooooo amazing! Any time I try to watch similar types of videos im always comparing them to you guys and no one ever even comes close.
Having your kids as sous-chef is a great idea. Boys especially often get forgotten when it comes to cooking and food prep.
When you said whisk it and Kim popped up 😍😂😂😂 love her so much 🥰 2 of my favorite people on the tube 🙂
I'd normally be cleaning out my pantry in January, but we lost power for 5 days and I lost all the food in my very packed freezer and fridge (we live way out in the boonies so I keep everything stocked since the grocery store is nearly an hour away). Insurance was gracious enough to recoop our loss, but I'm still grieving the loss of all my bargains like the 50 cents per lb pork chops. 😭
I love the little Kimberly Whhhhisssk Easter egg there 🤣
Hi Christine. Just wanted to share a tip with you. If you wrap your lettuces and celery in tin foil and keep it in the fridge, it will last for weeks without wilting.
I'm truly amazed how many "new" chicken recipes I've come up with .
A lot
Except for meat my fridge and pantry has been bursting at it's seems. When New Year's hit and my son tested positive for Covid I was grateful for the pantry so I could avoid the store. Luckily no one else in our family got sick and he's fine now. I placed a Thrive Order this week and got 3 things for free! I love Thrive. I initially joined because I have food allergies but the whole family has found things they love.
This was literally my project over the weekend. I defrosted my deep freezer and deep cleaned my fridge. I started rattling off meal ideas in my head so quick. I couldn’t believe how much we had that was forgotten about. I had intended to go grocery shopping (hence why I buckled down and did the mass clean out to begin with) and dropped several things off it.
Teaching your kids to cook/bake and to be confident in the kitchen is a great skill to pass on to your kids .
I’m currently teaching my partner to cook! He was never taught as a kid, and is also dyspraxic so struggles with the coordination and organisation of cooking, but he’s making great progress!
I loved seeing Kimberley whisk💞
LOL! The bananas made me laugh out loud. I remember that video. We are buying a 1/4 beef. First time :) I'm excited and cleaning out my freezers too. I love the guest appearance. She's one of my favorite YTers. Great video. The boys are doing super.
Once they all know a pasta dish, a chicken dish, a good burger, a roast and a dessert then they can build from that. Few basics like oatmeal and eggs and breakfast type dishes. Such an important life skill that is often skipped in boys.
Love these type of videos!
Hooray for another video!
Lol, I have that exact style waffle iron! Received as a wedding gift in 1982. The handle is broken but it still works like a champ!
Wait what? I just did a FULL inventory of my freezer/fridge/pantry and made a full MONTH dinner plan 😂 Seriously, I am planning to get no groceries for our dinner for 30 days.
One exception: my birthday is in January (only the best people were born in January) and I will be buying pizza. Because I love pizza and I hate making it myself and I get to choose dinner on my birthday 😆 Yes, I am turning 41 in a week, and I still choose my birthday food like a 12 year old. Because pizza is awesome!
Hawaiian Sesame Chicken in the crock pot... Had random can of pineapple in juice, mango puree in a jar, a bunch of chicken thighs and frozen garlic and green onions. So yes, absolutely on board to cleaning out the fridge/freezer and pantry.
That sounds good!
Christine, your kids are awesome!
Thank you so much!
Great job!
I so need to do this!
Yay, so excited for another challenge. I've been waiting for one!
Yessssss, momma! These are my fave videos from you!!!!! 💕💕

OMG... the Kim flash had me rolling. I love her SO MUCH.
Love grilling in the snow!!! Great teaching your kids to cook!
I was just binge watching ur freezer clean out playlist!!
THESE ARE MY FAVORITE VIDEOS OF YOURS!!!!!
Another great video!
I hope Hailey is OK.
I've been on a low buy for meat in the hopes of emptying out the freezer. Actually starting to make progress and a Costco sized bag of frozen goods can fit in now!
So I just turned leftover roast chicken into chicken parmesan stuffed shells (used up a box of shells in the process), used up a jar of marinara sauce, finished off some parm & got a bag of cheese out of the freezer. The only thing I bought was ricotta cheese for it. (Yes, I'm using up roast chicken so I can get another roast chicken so I can use up bread in the freezer to make dressing...totally logical...)
I want to make cookies, but I don't want to do the dishes so the m&ms, white chips & pudding mix may end up back in the pantry.
The weather on Wed (my next cooking day) looks cruddy, so I may pull out stew meat & do a slow cooker stew...that'll get a can of tomatoes & jar of mushrooms out of the pantry too. Ugh, bought fresh green beans that need using first...um try pomegranate salmon with green beans & brussel sprouts.
After the stew is eaten up, I'm thinking a pork stir fry to get a can of mandarin oranges & bag of frozen sugar snap peas used up. Wait, I need to eat that broccoli...I may go buy heavy cream & make an olive garden chicken Alfredo thing...
Ok, salmon, Alfredo chicken, stew, pork stir fry. And the only things I need to buy are brussel sprouts & heavy cream.
Yay!! 🌞Good Morning good idea get those kids in the kitchen 💞
I love your pantry challenges!!!
Love the Kimberly Whisk cameo!

I have also add honey to canned tomatoes to help cut the acidity.
