- On the Friday episode of the North Shore Drive, presented by Mike's Beer Bar, host Christopher Carter welcomes Post-Gazette insider Ray Fittipaldo to analyze the first practice of Steelers training camp on Thursday at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. Why did top receiver George Pickens appear to be butting heads with position coach Zach Azzanni? What might it signal about how differently coordinator Arthur Smith approach to coaching on offense? And is maturity still a concern for Pickens after he showed some visible frustrations last season?
Our duo tackles those questions. Then later, they discuss Justin Fields getting first-team practice reps amid Russell Wilson's apparent injury. And Smith's focus on TEs, primarily Pat Freiermuth, in the early going of camp.

This is the reason I really wanted a Aiyuk or DK. I don’t trust Pickens as a number 1. Great talent, but extremely immature. I would be nervous to resign him to big money as your number 1. Number 2, yes. Just don’t trust his attitude, maturity & willingness to play hard every down. That includes blocking for your RB’s.

It's funny that the Steelers pick this year to try to coach George hard, when you just said yourself that they don't have a number 2. If he says trade me. Tomlin says that he wants volunteers not hostages. Where would they be then?

GP is a disaster waiting to happen. He believes he is better than he actually is and will get worse if the Steelers commit to him long term. The Steelers should ride GP for now and draft a receiver high next draft and part ways with GP. If the Steelers pay GP, they will regret it. This kid's ego will go through the roof if he is made the highest paid receiver or one of them.
Pickens better change his attitude. Yinzers will stick by a good coach that coaches hard rather than another prima donna wide receiver. They'll run the ball and throw to Freiermuth or Austin III or Van Jefferson. He'll be put on a shelf and the NFL has seen how Steelers receivers that are attitude problems make it on other teams.....see AB, or that dude they sent to Chicago for a 2nd round pick.

I do not blame Pickens at all. The organization basically said "good news, you're going to get double covered every snap all season long" when they failed to get a #2 option.
Tomlin has no idea on how to deal with these head cases. AB turned into a cancer because of Tomlin's lack of leadership.
