The best flying time is definitely right before dawn and again right before dusk. Flew in my dad's Luscomb back in the late 60s to mid-70s. He kept his plane on our farm, and I remember many times hearing the engine kick over and there goes dad still dressed in his PJs going for a 150-200-mile flight at 6 am on a summer morning. I built a Model IV Kitfox that I have now been flying for several years. Every year during the condition inspection I raise the tail to flying attitude and measure the fuel flow AFTER the fuel filter. I have always had over 15 gallons per hour. This is just gravity flow. Then I change the filter. I figure that takes care of most of the fuel flow issues. from the tanks to the fuel pump. Nice landing!!

David, best to err on the side of caution. I would drain both wing tanks, clean the tank strainers and the gascolator at the firewall and/or filters at the low point in the fuel system, and then flush with some clean gas. Maybe have the carbs cleaned, too. You may have just got a load of bad gas, or there may be some degradation going on in your tanks. Ask some of the KF owners on the KF forum who have the older style tanks--they may can give you some answers. Also, I used to watch a KF vlogger who had to install some sort of vapor return line on his engine because he was getting vapor lock at high altitudes. He had a 912 ULS. Have you ever heard of that with the Rotax?

That may very well have been the easiest emergency landing ever. I've had a tougher time doing engine out practice where the only place to land was an 800x50ft dirt strip carved out of a forest of mesquite, saguaro and ironwood.
You need to practice your forward slip to perfection because you may need it some day to, you know, continue living when you have an engine fail in far less favorable circumstances. You don't give up energy until you have to. You make Newton and Bournelli your b*tch. You fly high and fast, not low and slow.
But I have a soft spot for the Kitfox so I subbed anyway.
Also, as an A&P, I totally knew it was going to be a clogged filter 5 minutes before you flashed it across the screen. You just have that vibe.
You need to improve your mechanic skills in addition to your flying skills. You need to filter your mogas as you fuel the aircraft. And you absolutely must use a fuel stabilizer with modern mogas because of MTBE. I use Sta-bil 360. Buy it by the case. I'd also be running some Sea Foam through the fuel system every 50-100 hours.
And I would go through all the fuel lines and check for degradation. I would check for corrosion. MTBE is a relentless corrosion promoter. It is especially bad with a fuel injected engine and can result in other causes of fuel starvation besides a clogged filter. I'm hardly a 912 expert but I did take a factory maintenance course and you have plenty of routine maintenance you need to be doing. Much easier for you to do it yourself as the builder but you really need to know more about what you're doing, maintenance-wise. I cannot stress enough the importance of following the maintenance manual to the letter.

My header tank behind the seat is vented to the 13 gallon wing tank on the copilot side. My pilot side has 7 gallons. I started the day with full fuel and flew about 1.5 hours. • @dtwyckoff

Because I had 1,000 feet to live or die and my priority was landing safely which I successfully did. I also forgot to retract my flaps as well. It's very easy to sit back and point out things that were done wrong but until you are in this situation yourself you will never understand the stress you are under. My right hand never left the throttle and the left hand never left the stick. Flying off of muscle memory at this point and trying to safely land.

This is the first time I have experienced something like this and I was planning on trying to land in the field right along side that road to my left but I realized I had to much airspeed and also altitude and would’ve hit the fence at the end so I banked it to the right where I had more room to bleed off the airspeed and lose altitude.
