- Engine coolant replacement or radiator fluid replacement in Honda Odyssey 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and newer models is a simple drain & fill which is done in just a few minutes. The coolant changing interval varies by vehicle and is typically: 60K - 100K miles. I changed in my Honda Odyssey 2010 at 7 years 80K miles and then did this second change 30K miles later at 110K miles and made the video.
Radiator Coolant or Engine Coolant protects the engine by helping to keep the engine temperature at a safe level. Too much heat in engine negatively affects the engine and can damage it. At a Honda dealer the engine coolant replacement cost is $199 approx but at home the coolant change cost is about $40 or less (if you get coolant on sale)
PARTS & SUPPLIES:
Honda Coolant, Part # OL999-9011, amzn.to/2XuGvEh
Fluid or Oil drain pan, amzn.to/33qaQYn
Fluid Transfer Pump: amzn.to/49fKRlZ
Funnel, amzn.to/2EY1Pfo
or use coolant funnel, amzn.to/3cThklq
STEP-BY-STEP PROCESS:
In concept: Open drain valve to remove old coolant,
then put new coolant in Radiator and reservoir.
Details:
1-Be sure that engine is cold (not hot), and van is off
2-Place drain pan under radiator drain valve (petcock)
3-Open radiator coolant drain valve but don't remove it
4-As coolant starts to drain, open radiator cap on top
5-When coolant is finished draining out, close drain valve
6-Tighten the drain valve (pet cock) - don't over-tighten it
7-User Transfer pump to empty the coolant reservoir
8-Refill radiator with new fluid (do not close cap yet)
9-Refill the coolant reservoir with new fluid
HOW TO BLEED AIR FROM RADIATOR / BURP THE SYSTEM
Start the vehicle and wait for the radiator fan to kick in
Air bubbles will escape from radiator through open cap
Press on radiator hose a few times to help air escape
Let the radiator fan cycle on-off a few times
Top off radiator with more coolant as needed
Close the radiator cap and turn off the vehicle
WHAT ABOUT COOLANT THAT REMAINED IN SYSTEM?
One drain & fill replaces a little over 1 gallon of coolant or 50%. A second drain & fill would provide 75% new coolant in system, and a third drain & fill will result in almost 90% new fluid. In total we would use about 3 gallons of new fluid.
Space out the changes over a few hundred miles to be sure the new coolant mixes with old coolant. Other option is to do 'coolant flush' and replace all fluid in one-go BUT be advised that Honda advises to not flush the coolant. I would recommend drain & fill method.
If you like to have good antifreeze for Honda Odyssey, don't wait until 120K miles to do coolant drain & fill. Do it sooner. It cost under $50 to do one.
COOLANT RESERVOIR
The coolant reservoir hold extra coolant and is located behind the radiator. The location should be the same for all models of Honda Odyssey even though the Honda Odyssey 2005 and Honda Odyssey 2006 have a different layout due to older transmission. But location of radiator and reservoir in all including Honda Odyssey 2008, Honda Odyssey 2009 and 2010 is the same. Just be sure the reservoir is filled at full level.

*** and ONLY use the HONDA fluids to do this !
Yes, best option for a Honda and these fluids often go on sale during slow season so i highly recommend everyone to stock up.
What happens if I use peak coolant?
@@paradigmshift9772 GOOD LUCK ! i am friends with 4 Honda mechanics and 3 repair shop mechanics ... they all agree it is best to only use Honda fluids .. for brakes - trans - steering and anti freeze ! my Accord ole blue only has 471,000 miles on it and my odyssey has 125,000 miles on it
@@paradigmshift9772 I don't know the technical specs and difference of Peak Coolant vs. Honda OEM, so it is all your decision. I do know that Honda vehicles work best with Honda OEM fluids and parts.
@@paradigmshift9772 Nothing. Honda just tells you that so you buy their stuff. I have NEVER used Honda coolant and I'm over 207k miles and going strong.
