THE DAY 8 GREEN BERETS FACED 150 ENEMY SOLDIERS

- On February 20, 1991, during the Gulf War in Iraq, a team of 8 U.S. Army Green Berets were assigned to conduct a reconnaissance mission 100 miles behind enemy lines. The objective of the mission was to observe a Highway.
At dusk, the team's position was compromised by three children, who found their hiding place. The sergeant commanding the team decided to let the children go. Soon, a force of 150 Iraqi soldiers approached their position. The Green Berets team was behind enemy lines on their own, outnumbered and without vehicles to move around. The only option they had was to fight.
In just 10 minutes of combat, the Green Berets had eliminated 40 enemy soldiers, and continued fighting throughout the day, using flares and radio coordinates to guide the F-16 fighters to execute bombing raids against enemy positions.
After dark, the Green Berets were successfully extracted. None of the team members were killed or injured, and it is estimated that they took out over 100 Iraqi soldiers. This was an impressive feat, demonstrating the skill, bravery and determination of the Green Berets in a risky and challenging mission.

Speaking of which, the events that triggered the gunfight - that the soldiers were spotted by kids - is remarkably similar to what happened to Marcus Luttrell’s SEAL team in Lone Survivor.

Team I worked with had two people that were involved in extraction. Ground team had split into 2 elements. I believe the call had gone out and Chinooks came in to pull them out. My friends opened rear cargo door, pulled ground team in and sat down harnessed to ramp to provide security and suppressive fire. Iraqis I believe had anti aircraft weapons on vehicles. Pilot knew if he reached any substantial altitude, AA would take them out….so he flew as low to the ground as possible the whole way out, with rockets shooting up just in front of or behind them the entire time. Pilot is the reason they’re all still alive today.

letting childrens go away even knowing the consequnce is what made them real badass
What they should have done is zip tied the children’s hands and taped their mouths and continued the Operation with them as personal baggage. Then when the op is successful, cut the kids free and haul ass before they get help.
@@moparman2384 That would only buy a little time. If the children were to gone missing. Parents and local community will start searching for them which will most likely find the soldiers at some point. I wanted to be a Green Beret when I was a young man during my first enlistment but what stopped me was the idea of jumping out of a perfectly flying airplane. 😊 But I have the utmost respect for the Green Berets and they are an Elite Force that can hold there own against anyone.
Warriors don't get injured, they get wounded. To quote Sgt. Martin from B.O.B. "Injured is when you fall out of a tree."
I did two tours in Vietnam 1967-68. 101st Airborne div, 502nd Parachute infantry battalion. Camp Eagle (only 8 miles from North Vietnam border) I arrived after finishing airborne school at Fort Benning. Before that I had infantry AIT at Fort Jackson. Even with all that training, I had to attend a two week jungle tactics school. SERTS ( screaming eagle replacement training school) We were actually out of the wire, and in enemy held territory, in that two week training in the jungle, I learn more than all the other time I had been in the army!) One of the things I remember, was never trust kids! Do not let them approach. You do not wave to them or wave back at them when you are in a convoy moving through an area because they will do everything they can to kill you. They know you love children, they know you. Love, puppies! It wasn’t long before I saw the bloody truth. There are some guys who like me were drafted, but they didn’t give a fuck about anything and all they wanted to do was shuffle and go back home as soon as possible. I knew the war was wrong and so did everybody else. At one point we were losing 500 men per month and there were no women in Vietnam. There were no women in the army except for female nurses and a handful of clerks inside big military bases in the states. We were on Highway one , moving north crossing the perfume River at the large city of HUE. (Way) there is always a gang of kids waving you on saluting you saying shit like hey Joe, fuck you Joe! Joe is a derogatory term for a service man it always has been. Vietnam gets so hot I can’t describe it! It’s also humid as hell because of the jungle after all. We were in a convoy headed up to Quang Tri and we got stuck on a bridge which is incredibly dangerous but traffic is a cluster fuck and unless. The commanding officer who’s in the lead vehicle orders, the driver to push everything out of the way so we don’t get boxed in then we are stuck until the bottleneck is broke, and we can be on our way again. Like I said, it was a bitch this day, and I’m just getting into the orientation of what I’m going to do and on our way to start. These little kids who are probably not more than seven or eight years old, have a cart and they’re selling soft drinks by the bag! In Vietnam, when you bought a Coke, they would open the bottle and pour it into a bag with ice in it. They knew not to do that for us because we can’t trust the ice. If we get the shits from bad water they are still going to send us to fight. Show the kid goes to the first truck which is located behind the Jeep where the CO is and he popped open a bottle of Coke and poured it into a bag, put a straw in it and hands it to this black guy, The black guy pulls out a dollar and hands it to this little kid and he opens the lid of his card like he’s going to get changed but he takes out a grenade with hooks all over it because the trucks we travel in our covered in mesh to prevent a grenade from being lobbed in! I watch this happen it’s like slow motion! He tosses this grenade to the top of the truck and it hooks to the wire, and that little bastard dived off the bridge and a tiny boat is wating for him. Old duck is loud as I could about the time I hear a muffled explosion, but I don’t dare lift my head up yet all the sudden, the convoy is moving forward at full speed and I look up and there are pieces of brain pieces of black scalp blood everywhere. Some guys were screaming in pain. I’m just was not ready for this I don’t know to this day what I did I know that we shoved everything out of the way. We probably ran over and killed a couple of old people trying to get off the bridge because we are sitting ducks for any boats out there or any vehicles going to the other way we’re hauling ass now down Highway one and the CEO is on his radio talking to camp eagle. Requesting all the metal box that they can send and telling them just follow the bridge and you’ll see us eventually at the first clearing. We get to a clearing near a beach and let everyone jumps off and we make a huge perimeter surrounding all the trucks and I can still in my mind today hear the screams of the guys who were. Severely hurt! We had a full contingent of troops, alpha company and bravo company and combat medic from both of those companies made their way up to truck number one and started doing tourniquets and checking for whatever they could do by then I was under the deuce and a half truck just scanning, like it was only about five minutes before I heard the blades popping of the 326th Medivac dust off flying in perfect formation with a cobra in front and a cobra in the back. They ended up clearing everybody out of the first truck. They had body bags for the six black guys that died instantly. And in less than 5 min they had the injured loaded and one by one took off for the 56th joint field hospital. (Marines and Army) . The old man is asking for volunteers to drive truck, number one onto Quang Tri. It’s still got shit all over it blood and flesh……. I know you never volunteer for anything and I didn’t but someone did and good for him. We were quick timing down the hwy with one cobra escort covering us from the air and why that was a welcome sight and sound. When we finally got to Quang Tri, they have some civilian people washing clothes and burning shit and they put a couple of them on this truck to gather up the body parts and then Jack the front end up and hose it and scrub it and mix bleach with water and do that over and over until the water runs clear. that was a mind fuck for all of us cherrys ! I can still hear that sickening sound. Later, talked to the chaplain, whose name by the way, was Bobby Lee I asked him how can a little kid commit murder like that? He said more than likely the vietcong have infiltrated his village and his family and unless he does exactly what they tell him, they have told him they will kill his entire family. So by cooperating he gets all the food all the fish all the rice everything his family wants he’s taken care of now, and as he gets older, he will use different methods to kill Americans.
Puff

It was said about lone survivor, if they had 4 more seals and the higher-end they would have won that battle! I believe it!

@@4redniwediS Don’t believe everything you hear. USN SEALS are good but they’ll never be as good as Army or Marine units fighting pitched battles (which they aren’t designed for anyways) or basic infantry tactics such as responding to an ambush. Army infantry and Marines both practice extensively at reacting to ambushes and bushcraft, in general. The sailors that choose the Naval Special Warfare pass miss out on the reps soldiers and Marines get drilled into them.

Reminds me of the 300 Spartan Warriors fighting the Persians to protect Athens.
Don’t forget the 3,000 Athenians standing right beside them. Or the massive fleet of Athenian ships defending their flank from Persian ships
Actually they weren’t fighting to protect Athens it was for Sparta but they needed all of Greece to stand in order to save Sparta and the surrounding areas so they went and asked the evils who preformed rituals and gave blessings for war to the Spartans for many years a part of there belief was the evils blessing was needed for victory in war and when Leonidas approached the evils he had interrupted them during a carnia which was a ritual period of time for the evils and they never blessed anyone for war during this time so when they asked and he was denied the evils blessing when he told the council of Sparta they voted against him using a massive army, he didn’t want to let that stop him from saving Sparta so he did the next best thing he took 300 of his personal guard and begin heading for thermopile they happened upon some Athenians who pledged there sword to the Spartans and they all went forth seeking to hold back the army as long as possible because he knew when the king of Sparta fell all of the Greece would go to war regardless of rituals evils or anything else so they bravely stood there ground and fought to the very end uniting all of Greece

Do or die against inadequately trained troops. The great thing about this incident is that when the kids found them they let them go knowing what would follow. even then people would bitch about it if they actually kill the kids, the question is, which side would you be on? the Whiners? or the one who knows what is Necessary?

@@ronnrogers9459 It wouldn't have mattered, as the SEALs were observed as they were being dropped off. Meaning the Taliban knew they were there the entire time.
Every mission is an unknown to deal with, we aren't pleased to kill, and we understand the enemies' infiltration and supporters among villagers. We try to make sure we don't get any civilians on our line of fire ,but that is close and difficult assimilation, we are called to do a job, and won't leave untill the job is done. DOD will not call us if it isn't the last option. Trust me, it's a lot of " last point to be taken out". Hooraa
@Vernon Gandy this is civilian ignorance and propaganda against those who sacrifice in order for them to be free and safe. Most "mericans" do not deserve our sacrifice. Unfortunately, among our own family are few of those, and it hurts to see how DOD and VA treat us; like junk, undeserved, prejudiced.
And hurts even more how civilians see us.. plain lose canon's, junkies, and losers, freedom have a stiff price. We are the ones paying for, even after we leave the military, the general population still forcing us to pay for it..
"Sir, we're surrounded!" "Those poor bastards!"
He forgot to mention compassion and code of conduct
Wasn't smart to just let the children go. They could have tied them up and gagged them and held them until their mission was accomplished.
disgusting
Not dealing with the kids, regardless of the positive outcome, is a peculiar call. Those kids, after seeing what went down, will turn out just like their fathers unfortunately... Although they took out an impressive number of threats that day, which is a good thing, they provided hate fuel for the next generation of threats.
I think it shows their discipline & resolve.... I'm sure they knew they could take the kids out & maintain their opsec & there'd be no consequences for them.... But they also knew they could deal with anything arising from letting them go & showing their elite warrior mindset.... They're there to kill opposition combatants not kids.... gotta keep your honour clean so can hold your head up & uphold traditions of your unit & those who came before you
Have you been on the battlefield, friend? Hmmm. The bottom of the line is that most of those so-called enemies aren't, they learn to hate us from the pain we caused. They do not see UN allied flags, they see " mericans," and from they pain , loss, they learn to hate the US, even when they immigrate here or Europe, they will be full of hate, political, religious, social, hate. That's not they fault, we did inflicted it to them. And for what? Because we could. Just that. Because we could..and by it, we are made target for life. Political religious wars...
Taking on ridiculous odds in a war zone is one thing...The murder of CHILDREN totally different...
Well if they were kids in 1991, chances are they wouldve been combat age during the 2nd invasion in 2003
Or the kids saw the futility and other groups hearing that SF won't murder children makes them an honorable yet formidable enemy. 18D. Two of those dudes were in my Q course class.

I remember this. I'm a Marine vet. Our squadron was flying a spotters mission. Had marking rockets to get in mark targets & get out while A6Es came in & hit the marked targets. They needed help. My squadron assisted as best they could. They shot their marker rockets which didn't kill but scared them back. They were outnumbered & in a bad way. Things could've turned bad quick! Brave soldiers.
8 guys with aircraft support. He makes them sound like heros. Fighting 150 enemies at once with only 8 men and no air support, is something to talk about
Moral: don't let the kids go until you are ten miles away
Motivation as well.... to not go home in a body bag. Well done, soldiers!
A soldier told me most soldiers were like fighting children in terms of intellect and intelligence. He felt sorry because Iraqi soldiers were so unskilled... so this isn't much of a feat. Really just needing 150 rounds per enemy is what my friend said... he was a recon marine...I worked with him
I read this account in a book called, True Stories of the Special Forces, or something along those lines. These men survived in spades when all odds were stacked against them. Unbelievable!
Decided to let the kids go was the morally right decision
They knew exactly what kind of hell they were inviting when they let those kids go... hard choices tend to be the good ones. 👍
God Bless Our Military!
Plot twist: They sent the kids to the enemy as a challenge
Superior skill and weaponry wins the day
Honestly I can't blame them in the slightest for thier actions I am greatful to God that they all survived that betrayal
The heroism in this fact was in letting the children go.
Yes quite a war, the boys that jumped in behind enemy lines on D-Day they were real heroes.
To EVERY UNITED STATES SOLDIER ... THANK YOU FOR YOUR PROTECTION AND YOUR SERVICE FOR AMERICA ❤❤
The commander ddnt let the kids go out of mercy, he wanted to show them what happens when you snitch 😂
