Seattle University Choirs present Susan LaBarr's "We Remember Them"

The Seattle University Choirs (Dr. Leann Conley-Holcom, Director of Choral & Vocal Activities; Dr. Lee Peterson, Assistant Director) proudly present our final mass virtual choir of 2020-2021, Susan LaBarr's heartfelt "We Remember Them."
In preparation for this performance, we were lucky enough to have composer Susan LaBarr and conductor Dr. Gerrit Scheepers visit on Zoom to share the origin story of the piece and help shape our singing. The composer encouraged us to "name your loss" in considering this text, and we took time in rehearsal to reflect, free-write and discuss who we'd each be personally dedicating this song to. This process brought up memories for singers, some joy and some grief, and most certainly deepened our experience of singing this piece. Collectively, we sing to honor and remember the more than 3.5 million lives lost to Covid-19.
Thank you for being part of our community and our audience during this difficult year. We have been fully virtual since March 2020, which has been tough to say the least - and we are thrilled to be returning to in-person singing starting in Fall 2021!
