THIS was the review I needed. I watched so many videos on this model and no one could really convey the sound characteristics of the amp and how it compares to others. Thank you, from your newest subscriber!
For $350 it's impressive that it has a nice relay controlled volume knob and remembers each output's volume settings. Great for having IEMs and power hungry headphones hooked up at the same time. Plus tons of power.
Would you be able to review this and other headphone amps specifically as preamps in a speaker setup? A lot of people (including myself) are interested in this, and almost no reviewers talk about it or specifically test against other HiFi high end preamps
You are absolutely accurate in your review. I have both the Topping A30pro and the L70 and I agree with your findings. For headphone listening, I prefer the A30pro. But the L70 is great as a preamp. I might buy the A90D after watching your reviews. However, could you compare it to the Gustard H16 or P26. Thank you.
Man i love the detail you go into describing the sound. No other channel does it like you. Can i ask, what kind of headphone(s) were you using when listening to the L70? It would be useful to know if it was low impedance or high impedance, planar or dynamic, etc.
Hi. I usually circle several headphones. I can't remember what was used for this amp since it was some time ago but I think I tried it with Hifiman HE-4xx, Verum 1, Goldplanar GL2000, and Bs Beyerdynamic DT880 250 Ohm version. Amp wasn't choosy at all.
Excellent review as always, thank you! Between the L70 and the A70 Pro, which you choose? Which of this two you consider is a better choice or which habe a better sound? Cheers!
Another great video thank you! Can you somehow review the minidsp flex balanced? I got one and I can't believe how good the dac portion of it sounds especially with the 10 parametric adjustable bands. I like it so much that I have decided to do away with my m500 mkii and the su-9n. One of the amazing things you can do with it is remove the harsh sibilance ssss sound from anything. Just pick one band set the q to 50 and the gain to -16 scroll to the frequency where sibilance resides and poof it's gone with out loosing any of the treble. It's awesome in so many other ways! If you get one be sure to get the minidsp flex balanced and buy 6 ts (not trs) to rca adapters. That way you can use it as rca (which sounds great too) or as a balanced unit. You will love it, I'm just surprised no one talks about this thing! (Although asr reviewed it in their site)
I need an amp for my Audeze LCD-XC. My other setup is LCD-4/Trilogy 931. The bright studio sound of the XC needs some character. Anything you’d recommend? I have an E70 Velvet DAC.
What do you thing is a good Head Amp with Bal in/out and flat/ Natural sound for $300 mark ? I was looking at L50 maybe there is something better in your opinion SMSM ?
HI, THANKS FOR THE VIDEO, I WOULD HAVE TO SAY, WHY IS IT THAT KNOW ONE ACTUALLY SPEAKS ABOUT THE REAR SPEAKER OUTPUT, ARE THEY AS GOOD AS THE HEADPHONE OUTPUTS CAN THE REAR OUTPUTS BE USED AS A AMP, WITH OUT HAVING TO BUY A AMP . I HAVE A SET OF ADAM 10''SUBWOOFER WITH 2 8'' MONITORS , PLEASE EXPLAIN THANKS
Hi Srboljub, thank you for the review! I would like to ask - have you tried A30 Pro with high impedance headphones? For high ohm loads (I believe 250+) it switches to class A operation and to me it does sound different. It gets more vibrant and energetic and a bit more palpable too. Did you have a similar impression? Thanks!
What is the best pure headphone amplifier for primarily IEMs under $500? I'm asking because I would normally pick the best measuring unit, which seems to be Topping, but it seems Topping has a reputation of sounding a little dead, clinical.
Hi Gopalan, i think E70 velvet is going to be available in Headphone zone by march in india. i hope E70 velvet and L70 would be better combo than E70 L70 and anyway A30pro D30 pro. but have to wait for reviews by more people.
Some reviewers say that a90d decay is way to fast. You get a fast slam but almost no decay. Can you tell me if this is the same experience you have and if the l70 does the same thing?
Yes, L70 also doesn't have long decay. I belive it's due to high negative feedback of Topping's amplification sections. I find tube amps such as Xduoo TA-26 to be much better in that regard.
@@richardblaauwgeers4349 try lake people g111 mkii, it is what I think topping would be. I had an L50 and it was dissapointing. It doesn't layer the music and I heard the A90D has that same problem despite costing twice as much as the L50. Lake people g111 mkii cost the same as A90D but it has the holographic quality and not as shouty as toppings. It is also marketed as professional studio gear so you could expect a neutral sound. I kind of worry that it might be lacking in bass but I was wrong, the sub bass in punchy and the mid bass is full, but the midbass is layered so it doesn't bleed to other frequency range.
Can i use l70 as a preamp? I will buy because of your review the dac d70velvet and next this to use it primarily as a preamp and sometimes as a headphone amp. Am i'm mistaken in doing so? Thanks a lot! Sorry my rusty english
It depends on your headphones. Zen can are pretty nice and works well with dynamic higher impedance headphones but for low impedance planar headphones not really good because running out of current. L70 definitely a power house driving nice difficult planars and of course everything.
hi can you explain more on the low impedance part, currently have the Zen can and have planars, looking for amp upgrade, choosing between ta-22 and a90. @@Rosszabik
How bout earmen tradutto? It was reviewed by iiWi Reviews in the past and I am still interested in it until now. For the balanced 4.4 output you could buy cable from Hart Audio.
Don't worry about it. I need that input actually. Can I ask you what about the sound is bothering you the most - sibilance or something else? I did invest in better gear last year and some improvements were made but it seems that I have one of those naturally sibilant vocals that's really hard to make sound less hissy in editing. I will try to tackle it in way or the other (better/different mic... Better/different editing).

Beautiful styling. It seems very good for the price. If I was in the market this would be a huge consideration.
Loved the balloon analogy 🎈
i like how it doesnt sound to me like every other dac amp combo. it is very warm. I like it

I'm looking at L70 as a cheap preamp for my hifi system. Hopefully it works out.
