    Small point, and I am sure just a slip of the tongue, but ADF does not point to VOR's. It points to NDB's. (You said it twice). It might help people if you explained what the abbreviations stood for, though I accept that we aviators talk in Three Letter Acronyms (TLA's). A good video though, I have been searching for one to refer my students to, and this fills the bill.

      Good catch mate! quite right of course ADF points to NDBs!! thanks :)

      @@PilotEd Also, when explaining the CDI you say 035 twice, but you mean 305. Other than that, very nice video!

    I'm an FAA ATP....4500plus hours (2509 PIC in 4 different jets...), however, EASA have banned us FAA guys from flying in the EU effectively, so I have to sit the 14 exams....your video's will help a lot and .... maybe you'd consider some private instruction/lessons?? Keep up the good work

    Sorry to be a nuissance, but in the RMI, doesn't the larger arrow point to the NDB (using ADF) and the single line needle point to the Radial on the NAV?

    ADF points to an NDB and not a VOR, they operate on different frequency bands (VOR, MHz vs NDBs, kHz). Otherwise, good video.

    I was just revising radio nav concepts, and I must say this video did the briefing concisely and cleared up most of the confusion I had on the subject. Great job, Cap!
    I remember my instructor mentioning something about HSIs commanding correctly over back tracking . I am not sure.. I was wondering if that is of much relevance to actual airline flying?

    This is a great video, very well explained and much needed! All those acronyms for similar but different instruments, can be confusing.
    To clarify, is a CDI just a needle on a radio navigational aid like an HSI, or is it an instrument in its own right? Is a CDI the same as an OBI?

    • @PilotEd
      @PilotEd  6 років тому

      CDI stands for course deviation indicator and is not an instrument, but and indicator in many instruments including HSI VOR etc..
