Oh, also a note, if anyone here watching this doesn't have a drill, you can take a paper clip, unwind it, and heat up the very end using a candle.. then just poke a hole in the plastic part (do it a few times)... worked for me!
THANK YOU! This repair worked great on my Samsung Microwave. My wife called me and mentioned the door issue. I didn't panic too much hoping that UA-cam would come to the rescue and this video certainly did. Thanks for the instructions. All steps were spot on. Putty knife, small drill bit and good to go. Many thanks for posting this video!
If half the people that watched this video fixed this and saved ~$300, this man has saved people ~60 million dollars over the years. Give this man a nobel peace prize in economics!
Thank you SO much! With nearly 30,000 views, there must be a problem Samsung is not acknowledging, but you have shown the power of peer-to-peer support.
Definitely. I just fixed mine. But it was the other end that broke on mine. I don't know how that happened. Just drilled a hole into the metal and connected the spring through there.
You rock! I fixed this 5 minutes flat.I had called samsung they set me up with a service technician and want 90 dollars to visit and told me to take the appliance off the wall.Absolutely horrendous technical advice.
The part broken in my microwave was the anchor bracket on the inside of the door but I was able to modify this technique by drill a hole through the side of the plastic housing and slipping the spring through the hole to anchor it. I never would have figured this out as easily without your video. The putty knife trick was a godsend. Thank you!
Same thing happened to mine today, but the aluminum housing had a little hole and I was able to latch the spring to the metal, the actual latch part hasn't broken but now I know it's a possibility and also how to fix it if it does eventually break.
Thank you so much for your video. I just fixed my microwave. My plastic was broken, not on the latch, but on the side that attaches to the door. I drilled a hole near it, in the metal, and it is working! Same principal, just on the door side. You saved us from calling a repairman ($80 just for the visit) or possibly buying a new microwave!!
I was so thrilled to see our EXACT microwave on this video...with exactly our problem. Got it fixed in less than 5 minutes. Thank you so much for posting this video!
all the samsung microwaves have this flaw and they all break in just a few years..there should have been a recard, or a repair kit sent, but they didnt cause samsung is a POS
THANK YOU!!!! I was home less than 24 hours between two trips and my wife said "The microwave's broken." Now flying out guilt free, so grateful for your quick fix.
You sir are awesome!!! Walked into my to find the door open and walked out thinking I needed a new microwave. Was curious if it was a common problem so i looked it up and your video was the first thing to pop up... 5 mins later its fully functioning again. I owe you a drink!
Dude, yes! My wife and I just bought a new home and thought we got jipped on the microwave. 5 minutes later I have a working microwave and a happy wife! Thank you!
53 year old single female fixes the microwave latch in 15.7 minutes using this video! Awesome! I spent as much time trying to find the right replacement latch on amazon and then said screw it, I’ll drill a hole and it worked perfectly! Thank you!!! 😂👍🏻😊
Man you really are the savior, Thanks for such a great presentation. Tip for people who donot own a drilling unit, just heat up a small metal pin , like a diaper pin and make the hole, its plastic so it will easily get pierced.
In my case , it wasn't the small plastic piece that was broken but rather the part that hooks into the door frame. Luckily there are metallic protrusions which I was able to hook the spring into to give it a similar tension. Thanks for saving me a lot of money
I was ready to Chuck my microwave into the trash, this video saved me from buying a new one and it only took five minutes, thank you for the video it was awesome!
well it still might be trash-worthy, this one failed shortly after this repair with the E3 error, which, thanks to another video, we fixed a couple of times, but eventually it wouldn't go away despite the fix. However, I hope your's survives.
Thank you so much for this UA-cam video. You saved me from having to buy and pay for installation of a new microwave! Less than 5 minutes and my microwave was completely fixed! You are awesome!
Awesome video dude! On my micro the plastic tab on the door at the other end of the spring is what broke. There wasn't enough of it left to drill a hole in, so I drilled a 1/16" hole in the same location, through the plastic on the edge of the door and through the light metal frame further inside. Then hooked the spring through the hole in the metal, and reassembled everything as you described. 5 minute fix, and it works again! A replacement door would have been $136. Thank you!
Thank you so much for posting this video. This is the first time I have seen my husband fix anything so easily and without getting upset. We had called someone to fix it and they told us we might as well junk it and we were all ready to buy a new one. Thanks again.
I had a slightly different problem as it was the lower piece of plastic, the one attached to the door, that broke off. I ended up drilling a very small hole through the metal frame by where the broken piece was and hooking the lower end of the spring on there. so far so good.
Samuel Madsen hey man, I just did the same thing to mine and wanted to know how you and your microwave have been holding up? I was a bit paranoid about exposing the metal since it is in the microwave door but it is also away from being exposed to rays and it is behind the plastic covering so I figured it would be fine.
I had the same thing. This is after I fixed the handle with heavy duty double back tape. Samsung makes the cheapest crap. , my phone, smartthings, and the microwave. I won't buy their crap again. Thanks
Same problem here. I couldn't believe that the small plastic eye hole attached to the door was a part of the larger door itself rather than something screw mounted and replaceable. Seems like a set up!
Thank you SO MUCH! Everything as described and total fix time was about 3 minutes. You saved me probably $75 minimum. Again, thank you for caring enough to help others out!
AWESOME! My wife was ready to buy a new microwave but I told her I could fix it. I guess an Emory grad can learn something from a Georgia Tech grad after all. Thanks!
This video was exactly what I needed! THANK YOU SO MUCH. I no longer have to hold the door closed while in operation! I purposefully waited to comment until I knew it was properly fixed, and it has been perfectly functional for a year or so since being fixed. By ME. Thanks to you! :) Monique A.
Thanks much. I followed you directions to fix my microwave in less than 15 minutes. As you mentioned, you should be very careful prying the frame off. Mine was a little difficult, but came off without damage. Also as you say, you should drill a very small hole carefully, near the base of the tab to leave the tab with a maximum strength. Thanks again.
57 Samsung Employees disliked this video LOL . Thanks for showing the world how to save money. Samsung and all other microwave manufacturers need to stop engineering things to break so they can sell you parts later. THANKS!
As the previous person commented , I too was ready to replace my above the counter Frigidaire Gallery microwave . That was before I came across this great video . The latch on my microwave was not damaged , instead , the plastic component on the inside of the microwave door frame , specifically where the other end ( bottom ) of the latch spring attached had snapped . I was able to repair it by installing a screw . With the prices of a new appliance or a new door frame , this video was a God send . So thank you and God Bless you and your's !!
Works great! I didn't have a 1/16 bit handy so I just heated up a safety pin til red hot and poked a hole big enough for the hook on the spring. I had to work it a couple of times to get it big enough but I actually think it is stronger because the plastic that melts around the sides of the needle creates a kind of rim.
Man, you just saved me the headache of having to find a repair person and pay lots of out of pocket money. Due to you posting this, I fixed my Samsung Microwave latch in about 15 minutes. Impressed my wife with my amazing knowledge...which I owe all to you. Much appreciated.
Works for a Haier brand too. I had earlier fixed a part on the body of the oven that was the pivot for the push latch. Replaced the broken plastic shaft with a steel rod that stuck through the outside the oven for more support. .
My Samsung microwave broke this morning. Typed in my model number and problem into UA-cam and your video came up. About 5 minutes later, the new hole was drilled, spring hooked-in, my microwave was working again. Clear instructions. Easy to follow and duplicate. Pocket knife and 5/64 drill bit completed the job. Thanks
Aaah, exactly what UA-cam is meant for! Thanks for a great vid, you saved me a ton of time and trouble. Nice easy fix! And you also made me look like a hero. :)
Thanks so much for posting this great tutorial! I had the exact same problem and this saved me tons of time and money. After watching your video, I had the microwaved fixed and working again in less than 10 minutes! :)
Hey Biren, Thanks for the tip on the door latch. Mine was exactly like yours and it was broken in the same way. I drilled it and put it back together and it worked great. My wife loved it and me!
I didn't have a putty knife - but I did have forks! Consider this one more project I've successfully completed compliments of youtube. Thanks Biren! Very well done and easy to follow instructions. I owe you a beer.
I came home to find my microwave door standing wide open. Once I determined no one had broken in and stolen everything in the house, I found this video. My microwave door looked exactly like yours and I had it fixed in no time. It actually took longer to get out and put away the tools than the fix itself. Thank you for a thorough explanation.
Thank you!!! Although you made this 10 years ago, letting you know that it is still helping a lot of people who are not good at fixing stuff like me. I fixed it this morning and am very happy that I could manage to do something by looking at the helpful videos posted by a bunch of people like you. Grateful ❤!
What can I do with a Latch that actually works but the door sensor won't work when the door is actually closed, I mean, the light of the microwave isn't turning off when the door is closed
Thanks Brien, my latch just broke. While I was removing the door (easy to do), my wife looked up how to remove the door panel and found you. 10 minutes later it is fixed. Thanks again
The last thing I needed this year is another expense. This morning I discovered a broken Microwave. A quick youtube search brought you to the rescue, Thanks friend, you saved the day!
Thank you, Brian, just got my door fixed in 5 minutes or so. Saved me a lot of time and money for sure, and the hassle of finding an authorized repair service. Great post!
Thanks, Biren! Super helpful. My Samsung microwave just broke yesterday. I did a quick google search, your video was the top match, I clicked on it and had my answer instantly! I was back up and running within 5 minutes. You save me a lot of time, money, and cold food!
I had the same thing happen. This video was great! I actually had the spring detach from the bottom plastic attachment. Using your tips in this video and a small drill bit, I made a small hole in the metal inside the door where the latch slides and down. I attached the bottom of the spring there. Just an FYI if anyone has an issue with the bottom of the spring vs. the top. Thanks again for the great video!
I was concerned that I would need to buy a new microwave. Just out of curiosity I did a search to see if there was a way to fix the door. Found your video, and it was exactly like you described. Had it fixed and running in about 10 minutes. I wanted to send you a thank you! You saved me around $400!!
Thank you so much for this information! Your explanation was so clear, concise, and comprehensive. We have a Frigidaire Gallery Microwave that wouldn’t close, but the information appears universal across brands as noted in your title. Our latch sheared on the inside - not the latch mechanism itself - so a drill couldn’t fit. But using the paper clip heating method, I matched the location of the broken piece and got it secured to an internal flange. Worked perfectly! Thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing this. Yesterday on thanksgiving day no less, my microwave decided to do this very same thing. Today, I searched UA-cam for some answers and came across your video. Got my hubby to take the door plastic piece off and sure enough we had the same sort of problem, however we have a different model and the pice of plastic holding it was completely split apart. Hubby is here now trying to fix it and voila!! It's fixed!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Thank you for posting this fix. I had this exact problem this morning, and it took me all of 5 minutes to fix it after watching your video. Cost me nothing too, which is also awesome!
Lowes wanted $156.00 to send a technician to our place to look at our microwave that had the latch problem. I stumbled on your video and it couldnt have been easier to fix. Thank you a hundred times over for simplifying the fix.
Dude, this was awesome. My in-laws were about to buy a new microwave as it was ten years old. I watched this video, found a similar problem; the spring broke from the opposite anchor. I didn't even have to drill, just hooked it to another place. Fixed! Thank you.
I am a klutch when it comes to tools but this was so clear that even I could follow it and I repaired my door latches. Thank you for saving me hundreds of $$$
THIS MADE ME LOOK LIKE A BOSS! My Samsung was the exact one you had in the video and unlike your example, my issue was not the broken hook, the spring had simply popped off when my wife had closed the microwave too hard. I hooked it back up and it is working like a champ! thanks so much!
10 minutes into prying off the front plate I figured I'd check the internet to see how to take apart the stupid thing. Great guide, saved me a ton of time and effort.
We have had a broken latch for a year!! Using file folder rubber bands to keep it closed so we don't have to stand there while using it. But then they break from being stretched out and it's annoying to replace them. But we thought it was an extensive fix, or replacement and didn't want to spend the money. Thankfully with your video we were able to fix it in 5 minutes while watching the steps in your video. Very easy! And your instructions were very clear, very detailed easy to follow.
Your post was extremely helpful in the successful repair of my broken door latch. Thank you. So, my break happened on the other end of the spring, at the hard point (the bracket molded into the door). Oddly, the piece just snapped off. To fix it I also drilled a small hole but in the thin metal frame, housing the interior plastic border, allowing me to secure the hook end of the spring. I then placed the loop end up and over the hook on the vertical rod/ latch (where you drilled) making it spring loaded again. Thanks for making and sharing the video.
Dude you rock. Not only did it work but you saved me the cost of buying the latch mechanism as well. I feel like I just stuck it to the man.... Thank you.
Thanks to much! I was quoted over $200 for repairing this, so I had purchased a new microwave instead. Luckily before I installed the new one I stumbled across your video. Your fix worked like a charm!
Thank you very much for posting this. 5 minutes of work and the microwave is fine. You saved a lot of people like me a lot of money and time and energy. Thanks.
Thanks. The instruction was so easy to follow that I repaired my microwave door in 15 minutes. Thanks again for this video and the gentleman who uploaded it to youtube.
Hey man, thanks so much for posting this video! I was shopping for a new microwave because I was all but sure mine was done. Then I saw this video, I'm sure sure it saved me hundreds. I didn't have a drill or putty knife, so I used a butter knife to get the frame off. To make the hole in the plastic for the spring, I continually heated up a guitar string red hot with a lighter and then pressed it to the plastic until it eventually made a tiny hole. Worked like a charm. Thanks again!
Thanks so very much Biren Patel. Worked perfectly for me today. The clarity of your instructions and pace made it easy to understand and follow. Your post has helped so many of us. Much appreciated!
Thanks so much for the great fix for what seems to be a common problem, if the number of views is any indication! I'm so glad it's this easy to fix so I don't have to go buy a new microwave or call a repair person and pay an arm and a leg. Btw, I don't know if anyone else commented about this, but my microwave, it was the plastic hook where the bottom of the spring attaches that had broken off (why don't they make them metal??). I did the same thing you advised, just at the bottom. Just made sure to drill the hole at about the same level where the hook broke off, so that the spring had good tension. Thanks again!
You are seriously a savior!! We thought we were going to have to buy a new assembly. And we have been using tape to keep it shut. That was such an easy fix. You are awesome!!!!!
Thank you for posting the video. I heated a nail and pushed it through the plastic latch to make my repair. We've been using a rubber band for several years!
Thanks man, you saved me from just going out and buying a replacement. My issue was the bottom plastic bracket that holds the spring. I was able to just hook it on the metal frame. It won't last forever but I'm back in business for now.
Awesome! My repair went exactly as shown - just a few minutes! If you think about it, you've probably saved folks thousands of dollars in repair costs and new microwave purchases... Thanks!!!
Mine had the opposite side break, but I also performed your fix to make it last that much longer and not have to go in again. Thank you so much for taking the time to help us all with our appliances.
Man, thank you so much. It was the clip on the door itself that broke on mine, not the one in the latch mechanism. Using your same principles, I drilled through the plastic frame on the door to where the broken clip was formerly mounted, mounted the spring to the new hole and the latch clip that was still intact, and it works great now.
Thanks for this video. As another poster stated, the plastic bracket attached to the door was broken, but I just hooked the spring onto a metal tab in the door, reseated the latch, reassembled the door and it's good as new. Awesome fix. Saved me $$$
Excuse me Sir!!! This video was everything!!! Thanks for this you saved me from having to buy a new one! My BF is a “I’ll buy a new one” and I’m the “I’ll fix it” chick (he is not handy at all) This was easy to follow and no surprises while fixing! Thank you!!
Biren, you have NO IDEA how happy you have made me. I was dreading having to rip out the microwave, or calling a repair guy during the raging pandemic, but with your video, I was able to fix my microwave door in less than 15 minutes - including the time to google and watch your video! Your video was super-clear and concise, and this was one of the easiest and most rewarding fix-it jobs I've ever done. Thank you. Let me know how I can send you a cake to say "thank you!"
Just like Kevin below, I was thinking I should just buy a new OTR as this one is now 6 years old. After fixing the spring as described in the video, it works like new again. Great help
Mine broke on the other side the hook was fine , I clued a washer to the bottom side of plastic piece in the door reattached the spring.. works good now . Got to say tho BIG THANKS for the video. I bet your saving people hundreds of dollars in repair and microwave purchases.
Awesome demonstration! We've been searching for a new microwave for over a month and didn't want to shell out the $$$ it was going to take us to replace it; this hack worked!
Just did this tonight. I doubt it'll last forever since more of the plastic was broken off for me, but it buys me some time before I need to buy a replacement part. Thanks!
Awesome, thanks for the help! For me it was the plastic piece inside the door, just drilled a hole through the metal, reattached the spring and good as new. Thought we just needed a new microwave so you saved me money and impressed the wife. Thank you again!
OMG! Your video instruction was so helpful! I was about to look up videos on how to replace a built-in microwave, but decided to look up a door repair on a chance I would get lucky. Your video was dead on. I did the repair in about 10 minutes. I used a 1/16 bit because it was the smallest I had. Worked perfect! Thank You Thank You Thank You! The only problem I had was that I did break one of the tabs that holds the plastic cover on. But it still went back together and doesn't rattle.
Oh, also a note, if anyone here watching this doesn't have a drill, you can take a paper clip, unwind it, and heat up the very end using a candle.. then just poke a hole in the plastic part (do it a few times)... worked for me!
Thanks for the great advice. Worked like a charm.
Ingenuity personified. People...don't be afraid to think outside the box.
Thank you so much
Hi! I appreciate your video.
Working on this now. The piece that broke on mine is the one on the door. Any suggestions?
I used a fine point soldering iron.
Brian,

THANK YOU! This repair worked great on my Samsung Microwave. My wife called me and mentioned the door issue. Up to over 200k now...clearly Samsung has still not bothered to correct the issue 🙄
Definitely. I just fixed mine. But it was the other end that broke on mine. I don't know how that happened. Just drilled a hole into the metal and connected the spring through there.

same with me, broke inside the door. samsung should be ashamed of their incompetence
I had the same issue with the opposite side and this worked for me! Thank you. I hate samsung
I did the same thing. Modified the Anchor point with a dremel, works fine last a long time God is Good!!!
Same thing happened to mine today, but the aluminum housing had a little hole and I was able to latch the spring to the metal, the actual latch part hasn't broken but now I know it's a possibility and also how to fix it if it does eventually break.

My microwave door looked exactly like yours and I had it fixed in no time. It actually took longer to get out and put away the tools than the fix itself. Thank you for a thorough explanation.
Wow - took longer to gather the tools than to repair the problem. Very bad design. BAD Samsung. Very helpful. Thanks.
Thank you for this video, you save me a lot of money. I fixed my microwave door latch.
"You, sir, are a steely-eyed rocket man!"
Can’t believe I just fixed the door in 4 minutes . THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING !!!!!!
the latch had no tension . Spring is back in place .
I was concerned that I would need to buy a new microwave. Just out of curiosity I did a search to see if there was a way to fix the door. Found your video, and it was exactly like you described. Had it fixed and running in about 10 minutes.
I wanted to send you a thank you! You saved me around $400!!
You saved me a lot of time and money! Thank you for taking the time to make this video.
Thank you for saving me hundreds of $$$
Thanks so much!!!! I popped it open and the spring just came off, it didn't even break. You saved me the repairman having to come.
You just saved me 70 dollars....thanks to you, I didn’t have to call the insurance company, to send someone out to fix my microwave.... many thanks!!
Thank you very much for posting this. 5 minutes of work and the microwave is fine. You saved a lot of people like me a lot of money and time and energy. Thanks.
Thanks so much. This was our problem. Repairs perfectly described and easy to do even for unskilled person like me. Saved us replacing microwave!
Dude! one of the best no BS video tutorial I've ever seen on youtube! Just fixed my microwave with the exact same issue.
OMG! Watched your video and ran straight to the kitchen to get started! You just saved me from buying a whole new microwave! Thank you🙏🏽
Thanks. The instruction was so easy to follow that I repaired my microwave door in 15 minutes. Thanks again for this video and the gentleman who uploaded it to youtube.
Just successfully repaired my microwave, thanks to you. Saved me at least $250. Much appreciated.
dude, i was visiting my ex (and grand kids) and she had the prob; you me made look like a genius... I owe u big time!!! Many thanks.
Took all of ten minutes to fix, including time to gather and put away tools! Thank you so much!
How can I thank you for this video. I fixed my Samsung door latch in ten minutes. Saved me hundreds.
Saved me $$$
I did the same thing but while the door closed properly, the microwave wouldn't actually heat anything. Any advice?
Excuse me Sir!!! This video was everything!!! Thanks for this you saved me from having to buy a new one! My BF is a “I’ll buy a new one” and I’m the “I’ll fix it” chick (he is not handy at all) This was easy to follow and no surprises while fixing! Thank you!!
I'm about to do this as soon as I get home!! Thank you for saving me an argument with the Fiancé and the cost of a new microwave!
Just fixed our Microwave in less than 5 mins and it's a Kenmore !! Thank u so much for posting this !! 👍👍
