It'd have been a good event. The track is much better than Sochi and it's near Saint-Petersburg, which would have attracted more spectators from other European countries
@@Nekrews51 If I'm not mistaken the last sector was added later and was planed to be built for the F1 race. The original circuit (built in 2019) didn't include the last tight section. Maybe the modders weren't able to replicate it properly since they don't have any footage of that sector. Great lap, by the way 😉
What a shame. This track seems so much more fun both to race on and spectate than Sochi. Hopefully we'll be back here once the conflict settles and both sides manage to find peace and understanding.
Sochi 2021: *coughs*. Can't judge if F1 hasn't raced there. Your pre-existing, conformable bias against Sochi is manifesting itself in your ill-conceived judgments.
@@theautomaton9313 my brother in Christ, that race was only interesting because of the rain and an unusual qualifying, two things that can occur at almost any track and neither of which are more likely to happen because of the layout itself
I saw a few track day laps with the new layout and it would have been quite good to see the cars through there. The first part of the lap is a bit meh, but that last sector would be great.
It's much better than Sochi, but the last sector that got added ruined it (1:03). It doesn't have the flow that the rest of the track has, the elevation changes are nice tho
Woah, from your lap this track looks pretty difficult, and also pretty slow, especially in the first part! Can't really understand the meaning of that last part, it looks difficult to drive but satisfying, just i would've worked to create anitger overtaking spot rather than creating that thing. Still, good video!
Igora is what I consider the second track in a line of what Hermann Tilke can do when not forced to bow to the whims of F1 and its cars that can't race. The first being Motorland Aragon. The track makes excellent use of terrain, the corners feel natural and have decent rhythm. Then there's the long back straight for drafting or DRS overtakes. But then you come to the F1 extension, and like almost all F1 modifications, it becomes this awkward, slow extra bit for the single braking zone overtake opportunity that already exists with the final corner. This track would be just fine to race on without the pointless, Mickey Mouse extension. I can only hope Igora Drive didn't waste too much money on that horrid stretch of tarmac.
Come on now, who would EVER race at Sochi again? Igora Park seems much more fun to drive: not the best circuit design in the world as the track layout reminds me of Paul Ricard at times, but at the very least this seems much more technical and much more skill heavy to drive given the elevation changes, some rather difficult to judge correctly which remings me of the fun challenges of Sepang and Portimao. I would've liked to see how the DRS zones would've been implemented, because I feel like there are potential overtaking points via the switchback alone.
ngl i would still prefer sochi its just the playfulness and the sense of fulfilment once you get it perfect. it was smooth and like an enlarged karting track. Lets bring sochi back!
