My oldest is 9 and he was the most excited to see these again because he first remembers watching Emily's Wonder Lab. Thank you so much for these fun videos
Awesome! Easy to do, fun, and not a million things needed! Are there other solvents that we use regularly? What can you do (or make) with the Styrofoam goo afterwards?!
Isopropyl alcohol is also a solvent, but you probably think of it more as a disinfectant (it's both). Other common solvents include methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), ethyl acetate, and toluene. Paint thinner is another example of a solvent application, and other industrial cleaning products can be blends of multiple solvents. Just depends on what you're trying to dissolve.
Emily, would this be considered a physical or chemical change? I believe chemical but you stated it is still styrofoam without the air. Planning to teach this to my students soon! Thanks for returning to share your great demonstrations and lessons!
Great point! Because it's simply dissolving (and not changing chemical composition) - this would be considered a physical change. We're just removing all the air in the styrofoam.
How do you dispose of everything? Is it safe to put in the trash or should the liquid go down the drain? That’s the only thing stopping me from doing this with my kiddos.
I'll always add clean up tips in the caption! For this one, let it sit out for 24-48 hours so that the acetone evaporates, and dump the contents in the trash
So glad you’re back, my kids have watch all your episodes tenfold at least and are very excited for the new ones! But why oh why, are you not available on UA-cam kids? Now parents must monitor their kids while watching your videos to make sure that UA-cam doesn’t drift them off into something inappropriate seems like a major oversight on your part to not have this available to the kids your catering to.
You can add my channel to YT kids, here's how: (1) go to my channel on your regular YT app (2) click the 3 dots in the upper right (3) click SHARE (4) click WITH KIDS (5) click SHARE next to your kids account 💗

Thank YOU so much for continuing to watch and support me over here!
Very cool! What did you do with the goo? Probably can't go down the sink. Bag it up and throw it in the trash?
EXACTLY! toss it in the trash, and then let the acetone sit out for 24-48 hours so it evaporates.
Fantastic! I so hope a network picks this up so you get your next tv series 🎉
@@Embercantit’s honestly better on UA-cam cuz then she will get to keep all the money 🙂 share share share!! So she can teach kiddos everywhere

The power of Acetone! What a fun experiment! 😃💜
Your experiment is very good.
Congrats.. glad you’re back.. Netflix is regretting their decision..
Netflix shaking in their boots now
They’ll definitely have regrets 🤦🏼♀️
How do you dispose of everything? Is it safe to put in the trash or should the liquid go down the drain? That’s the only thing stopping me from doing this with my kiddos.
Definitely don't put it down the drain. I will always put safety and disposal information in the caption as a reference to be helpful
@@EmilysScienceLabthank you for that! Now I feel more comfortable doing this with the kids. 😊❤
Very interesting & cool 👩🔬🧪🔬
Are there any special steps we need to take to clean up once we are done with this experiment?
I'll always add clean up tips in the caption! For this one, let it sit out for 24-48 hours so that the acetone evaporates, and dump the contents in the trash
Yes I spend my Saturday nights wondering how to remove nail polish before I return back to work on Monday
So fun! What’s the best way to dispose of the gooey mess afterwards?
It's noted in the description below the video!
Toss it in the trash and then let the acetone sit out 24-48 hours so it evaporates! (just don't put it in the drain)
So cool! So excited for this!
Thank you so much!!

Now I am going to have to learn how to make acetone, sine I just learned how to make turpentine with pine tree sap
Would be even better if you explained the scientific details/reaction with respect to the ‘Why?’
I’m struggling to find your videos on UA-cam kids. Am I doing it wrong?

They say the “goo” is glue…or at least I heard you can do this to make glue….can you experiment the glue part! Lol
When I was a teenager I tried to superglue my foam headphones back together and they smoked and melted! Whoa!!?
👍

It’s so cool how it disappeared ~Valentina
Thanks for watching Valentina!
