Make a Pull Saw Bench Hook | Tricks of the Trade

I made a bench hook that I drilled two 3/4" holes through at one end. These were spaced the same distances apart as the holes on my workbench. I then epoxied 2 pieces of 3/4" dowels into the holes on the bench hook. I chamfered the ends of the dowels slightly to allow you to insert them into the holes on your bench. You can make your bench any length or width that you want, as long as the holes are consistently spaced.
If your holes are equally spaced you can place your bench hook anywhere along your bench.

Nice tip if you have a vice. I recently built the naked Nicholson without a vice, with a bench width of 22.5 inches it is simple to move the bench hook on the side opposite the Sawyer and it works great for a pull saw. 1 appliance still no vice. For some reason as my benches get more narrow they seem to become more useful. Huh... who would have thunk it..

I screw my bench hook directly into the face of my bench like a savage

How about using your bench dog holes to keep the hook from moving backwards? That way, you eliminate the clamping, which is the main reason for using the hook in the first place. Two small blocks and you are in business. You can taper them a little if you need to.

It may depend on the depth of your bench. Wider benches may require more leaning than preferred, but yes, that's a fair option as well.
