Great review man. There’s definitely a lot of problems with the episode, but honestly I can’t help but have it as my all time favorite for so many reasons
After a year thinking ToAru wouldn’t get in, after an incredibly stressful final month of school with the chance I wouldn’t even graduate, seeing this announced legitimately made my month, and the audible scream it got out of me can’t be topped
ToAru is one of my favorite franchises ever and I love HxH from what I read, so I had a lot of personal investment in this fight, and these 2 weeks to the lead up were just great, seeing so many people finally watch Railgun and really liking it (including 2 of my best friends) and getting to talk about both characters and just how sick they are. It was also the episode that released during my Japan trip so there’s also a sentimental value to watching it
And just seeing ToAru footage, hearing the name drops of characters I adore, it was such a good feeling. And the fight being filled with tons of passion and care for both series is honestly kind of admirable in a way
So much personal investment that paid off, so much joy this episode gave me, it’s hard to not just give it the personal 10/10

I’m really happy you enjoyed the episode. As a big fan of Hunter x Hunter and having gotten into Railgun thanks to close friends of mine, it made me really happy to see Killua and Misaka given extraordinary and meticulous attention and wonderful analysis both from an analysis and animation standpoint.
It’s even permeated with small details that fans of both can pinpoint and appreciate. Such as Killua’s alluding to his butler Gotoh (who coincidentally also utilized coins in battle) and how Killua acknowledges Misaka was stronger but still persisted on. Which is notable because a significant story element of Killua was for a long time he had a Nen infused needle implanted into his brain by his brother Illumi that would make him retreat from any conflict if it seemed like he didn’t have a 100% chance of victory. This essentially was a subtle callback to that which highlights his growth after he had forcibly removed the needle from his brain.
Suffice to say the people behind this episode really knew what they were doing and I was overall left very happy and content with the end result

I’m in the same boat here, I had no clue what to think of the MU when it was first announced, but it really did exceed my expectations. Nice review!

I remember having zero interest in this MU, and then watching the episode, and absolutely loving it

Fighting over that badge is not petty, that badge has a bloody sad history.

This feels petty to do but I found it kinda painful to have the setup be called “petty”.
Basically the pin Killua was keeping was something Misaka and the first clone she ever met bonded over and Misaka saw that clone die clutching the pin. So seeing him keep something this important to her is what made her initiate the fight. I can’t blame you for not knowing that tho they didn’t mention it in the analysis and not everyone saw A Certain Scientific Railgun 😅

Okay yeah, that makes the setup make more sense to me now. Literally all I knew about Index prior to this episode was that Accelerator is from it, so my knowledge was very limited lol

@@GalacticAttorneyNot only that but it’s a Gekota Pin, Gekota is a Mascot character that Misaka adores ever since she was a kid

So glad toaru made it into Death Battle. I hope this gets more western audiences into the series because it's such a good franchise but just isnt popular in the west vs the cult like status it has in Japan and other asian countries.

It was helluva a ride and yeah my gosh the bangers really continue this year. I was really looking forward for thus battle the total opposite of the reason I was looking forward for dragonborn battle. I haven't watch either series but this was such a great advertisement in something I knew inwould be into watching especially after learning a couple months ago one of my favorite singers tragically died and they were responsible for some of thenop/Ed's in certain magic index series

I actually like Misaka's idea of making a Double of her self using Iron Sand
And I would say Misaka WOULD be the winner due to the fact she has a Stronger Voltage of electricity than Killua uses

My counterpoint to the criticism on the fake out is that, for this match up, it feels appropriate for the music to continue if Killua was to be the winner. I feel like they would have referenced the scene where he rips out the heart in his anime, and have a dying Misaka try to reach out for her heart only for Killua to either crush it like in the 1999 anime, or put it in her hand once she passes out like in the 2011 anime and that would be the cue to end the music

I would love for them to do Rudeus Greyrat from Mushoku Tensei Jobless Reincarnation vs Akatsuki Ousawa from Aesthetica of a rogue hero
