Maggie Smith is the spine of the show. What a spectacular role and how wonderful for us to be able to see it whenever we want and all the other characters she brought to the screen. RIP.
There must be a missing scene between 05:54 and the last snippet. Between the dialog "I don't know what everyone's on about. But I..." And "All is well, my dear. All is well." Something must have been filmed between those two scenes, and was then cut before screening. I wonder what it was.
She was a staple in Downton but her passing was yet perfect but sad. The 3rd film will have a hole to fill but no doubt Mary will fill it with such high esteem. I think there will be a change to Mary that Carson has seen since Mary was a little girl and that's how Mary is Carson's favourite. Carson used to be a footman for the Dowager before he became butler to Downton and he has always had a connection to the Dowager in a special way (a bit like him and Mary but not quite). So now there could be a big scene with Carson and Mary and their connection whether something happens in the family and she goes to Carson for advice or something similar. Which could show how much Carson saw the Dowager in her and it will explain why the Dowager asked Mary to manage the ship for her before she passed. I hope they do something similar as it will show that the Dowager is still around even if it is in the afterlife 😂😂
I think they have done too much of a good thing. The charm was the time of the teens and 20s, the culture and class we've lost. It is ridiculous with them 30 years after the Titanic when the show started and they all look the same. Plus, without Maggie, I won't be watching.
