Thanks for including the elephant bush! I have one and also thought it was a type of jade plant, but couldn’t find it on the internet, so I’m so glad I could learn what it actually is all thanks to your video!!
Great info, thanks! One important thing to note as our climate warms…. I live in the desert SW (zone 9a) and it is important to know that the Crassula Ovata CANNOT take the prolonged heat of the summer months here! I learned the hard way when moving here from LA with a giant plant that I had had for many, many years growing outside. When I moved here it grew fine until temps were over 100ºF every day-after a couple of weeks it turned to mush and my 25 year old plant was reduced to a puddle in just a week or so. Portlacaria Afra, on the other hand, does fine and even thrives in very hot weather.
I remember that my mom had a jade plant when I was growing up. It lasted for quite awhile but it did eventually kick the bucket. They are so pretty though!
Like 96. Growing up my parents always had a jade plant at the front door (growing up on a farm I remember that at times it was one of the few things during summer that was always green).
You have a very impressive collections of Jade plants, and succulents for that matter. I have come to appreciate them more, when I saw this video. I never paid attention to them except when they bloom. They are just starting to bloom now( Southern California climate). Thank you for sharing your beautiful videos. I’m learning as I watch them!
Thank you. I have silver dollar and ovata side by side outside in the ground in full sun. As you said, silver dollar blooms well but ovata, I’ve never seen it bloom.
*_Excellent shots of the fantastically beautiful jade plants. The biodiversity is very impressive. Thumbs up for your marvelous video, Mary Ellen._* *_Thank you so much. Have a beautiful weekend. Cordial greetings from Vienna :-)_*
You know your stuff, lady! Nice video, cool voice teaching all the varieties...who knew there were so many? Thanks for sharing..I just bought my first.
Hello 👋, I have been a plant lover since I was very young and my all time absolute favorite is the Jade plant!! You did an amazing job of describing and explaining all the variations! Thank you so much, I really enjoyed this!! I'm subscribing now!!
Thank you for an excellent guide to Jade plant varieties. We have one that we got as a tiny little thing around 30 years ago. Thanks to your tutor video, I now know it is a Gollum variety. The thing is about 5 feet tall with a trunk as large as lower leg. Basically has become a small tree. We've had it so long, I think I am inspired to propogate a few of them. Thanks again.
Wow, thank you for the info. I have a jade plant about a year old, it tends to grow long then falls over on the side. I was like.. why don't you stand up. So I would cut it and replant. Then it would fall again. Now I know it's called Trailing Jade.
Hi Mary, didn't know there are so many varieties of these plants! Thanks for this well presented and informative upload...have a lovely end to this week my friend 😊
Just bought a portulacaria variegata apparently and not a “assorted Jade variety” so ty so much for including the non jades in your list so i could find out what it is!
I’ve got a few Crassula and the jade plants ( C ovata varieties ) do well . The string of buttons I’ve given up on . My Portalucaria always loses its leaves in winter no matter how much light it gets . They grow back when I put it outside in spring .
Sounds like you have a gret collection of Jade Plants. sorry you have not had luck with the spring of buttons. Hope you are having a fabulous Wednesday! Thanks for watching and commenting!
U r great and flowant with ur speech,,,,thanks for the teaching I loveeeeee jade plants any how may God continue to bless you for appreciating :;;,nature;,,his mighty works ;;;keep the marvelous work up amen
Hello my dear Mary Ellen, is really very beautiful plants, i like very much!! I send warm greetings from Greece and have a beautiful Holidays and Happy New Year 2021 to you and your loved ones!! Hugs, George + L
Love this video! I'm still trying to get the hang of caring for jades. They are a bit more difficult for me to grow compared to other succulents. I just recently got a crassula arborescense too! Thanks for the ID 😊
I feel like Jade is the easiest to grow. They take less water than most succulents. If you get the watering down then you will be golden! Good luck with your new one!
I like so much this video but I have question how do you grow your jade plants I have jet plan but it's not growing since 3-year I don't see any new growth and never see Woody stamp
When is the last time you changed out the soil? It may not be getting sufficient nutrients or light if it has stopped growing. Check out my recent jade video ua-cam.com/video/yva3LlKvvLY/v-deo.html

@@moodyblooms I’d say my new Gollum which was a great price for the size as a bonus and also my new small ovata variegata which I brought off a road side stall .
Thank you so much for educating us on different types of Jade plants. I came to your video cause I don't know if I bought a jade plant or not. I just wanted it as a money plant for feng shui.
I have a succulent as a gift was told it is called a flapjack also included snake plant and many small plantings only info was full sun. Never had succulents and not sure if the thick white powdery substance on tall stem, 2 to 3 ft tall and the rounded flat puffy leaves are powdery mildew and what genre is this.
It is most likely a Kalanchoe luciae or Kalanchoe Thyrsiflora. Both are very similar and are commonly known as flapkjack or paddle plant. The white coating is farina and helps protect the plant from direct sun. You definitely want to leave it on the plant. They are typically green and can turn beautiful shades of red and orange when exposed to full sun. Hope that helps!
I received a sturdy rooted droopy-topped flowering crassula - and wonder if the small leaves are good for propagation...and should I cut the flowering stems to try to root them also, as with other succulents?
Yes! Visit my website at moodybloomsco.com/jade-varieties/ for more info about Jade Varieties and care. Please let me know if you have any questions. Happy Holidays!
Wow my friend one of my favourite plant need lees care and water as well. Superb sharing. Stay connected. I never able to get the borders red as England hasn’t got much sunlight

I have a new plant that was given to me. I am rooting leaves but one has not rooted as yet. Should I lay the leaf in the pot where I put the other leaf that is slow but thriving.
Not all leaves will root. It has to be perfectly removed from the mother plant, and even then sometimes they just don’t take. I find some take longer than others if they are thicker. Placing it in the pot is fine.
Hi, I have a Gollum jade. It's in the little pot it came in and I was wondering what size pot to put it in and, should I use a plastic pot or terracotta or something else. I really love this plant and don't want to mess it up. How often should I fertilize it? Sorry for so many questions but I've never had one before and just want to keep it healthy. Thank you.

When you give area numbers, that’s just for outside planting, correct? I live in zone 8 and am just doing indoor succulents in pots. I can still use these, correct?
Wow so glad I found this video. I have a large (probably 4'-5' tall) Cassola, Gollum jade plant. I didn't know it was going to get so big. So where I planted it the smaller plants in back of it can't even be seen. The trunk on this plant is a good 5" across in places. Can I just cut it off at the ground and replant it with no roots or do I have to dig it up? By the way I very much like this plant. It looks like a giant bonsai, I just don't like where I planted it. Now how was I suppose to know this little 99 cent plant, was going to turn into a mean green mother from outer space. (Ha Ha) Little Shop Of Horrors!
Wow that is a good size trunk. You can behead it, but make sure you let the end callus over before planting in soil again. Otherwise the stem may rot. Since it is a larger stem it make take longer than the typical 3-5 days to callus over.
Hard to say without seeing them. All succulents can vary quite a bit depending on climate and sun exposure. You should be able to tell once the cuttings root and grow larger tho.

Hi, do you know is there is a difference between crassula ovata and crassula argentea?
I believe Crassula ovata was previously classified as C. argentea. Although still sometimes sold under than name.
@@moodyblooms i was confused between the two...i bought a c argentea thinking it was a crassula ovata..but it is not..they are different..
How can you tell if you have the Hummel jade from your cuttings?
Hard to say without seeing them. All succulents can vary quite a bit depending on climate and sun exposure. You should be able to tell once the cuttings root and grow larger tho.
This is awesome!
Thanks so much for taking the time to view my video and comment. I really appreciate it!
My Hummels sunset jade is reverting any advice will be helpful
Is is getting plenty of sun?
Is portulacaria afra indoor tolerant ? Assuming good south light and artificial red light
I have a few that are thriving indoors!
Can a jade plant be out in a pot in the winter
Of course! Just don't let it get to cold. What are your winters like? I am in Southern CA so we have plants out all year long. It was 75°F today!
Wow never knew there were so many variaties of jade!! Thank for the info 👍👍.
You said they are easy to grow but looks like I am struggling 😂
Overwatering is the main reasons jade plat die. I have a few jade plant videos on care if you need some help.
