As mentioned below, the crash bars actually have steel bars underneath the plastic. The 2 sockets and the handle bar warmer are 3rd party add-ons and not with the original bike. They are great bikes for mid-range touring. They handle well, Very frugal in their fuel consumption and comfortable over distance. Plus, they are almost bulletproof.
The good old times ... I've ridden the Deauville for 157K km. Bullet proof ? Yes, indeed !!! FYI, the crashbars DO have their use : they really protect the bike from ANY damage whenever it is dropped, no scratches nor broken mirrors nor broken levers - and no "plastic" underneath ! And ... who needs a fuel gage, when you have spare fuel ? When used to using the bike (like I was), you could even switch, even on highways, to spare fuel while riding...
You must have had your fuel tap set to reserve. If you set it to on and you ever feel it start to run out of fuel you can twist it to reserve easily without stopping then find fuel ASAP. I admit the fuel gauge is welcome on the 700 but I bet you don’t make that mistake again. Lol Fantastic bike, frugal on petrol, fast enough for all uk speed limits and above. An engine that with services can go more than 3 times around the clock. A much sturdier paint than on the summer bikes, and a great sounding v-twin, I’ve had both and still have the 700 it’s great.
A very good move, from what I’d read I assumed wrongly you were stranded. A little tip or pointer I’m not sure which, but on my classic scooters, Vespa, lambretta we could buy an aftermarket petrol cap that had a fuel gauge on it, with a probe going into the tank. They were made for these tanks and the tanks didn’t have that centre ridge that bikes seem to have but it would be good if someone has bought one out with a flexible probe fitted. I might be in the realm of dreams here but worth a look for. Lovely bike though, I’m sticking with my 700 but I loved the 650 I just hadn’t done hooning around. I part exchanged mine for the Yamaha Fazer1000, Your bike is all you need.
I only got the bike as a loaner for 2 weeks but it was oh so comfy (and utilitarian) 😁 that fuel gauge fuelcap should come in handy for my diy Transalp Supermoto that does not have a fuelgauge.
That would be good, have a google search and see if you can adapt one, personally I thought they looked great but scooter tanks on the classic ones was just like a fuel can. No humps or ridges. Hope you can find one x
I had the Honda NTV600 Revere. 583cc. I found the foot pegs to be quite high and it would cause cramp in my hip for the first mile or three. Shaft drive reliable nice handling.
Good review of a great commuter/tourer. I’m thinking of trading up my ‘02 CB500 as the Deauville is a little more long range and with the additional storage and superior add ons it’s definitely a good choice. Ref the fuel gauge, you should just utilise your trip meter, as I do with my CB500, and of course you have your reserve for when you forget.

They are quite touring friendly, not the quickest bike but the seat and seating position is so comfortable, I can ride for hours on that bike and not get tired 😁

The best option is to check out your local second hand marketplace and compare prices taking in mind maintenance and km's on the clock. That would give you a good indication of what the 2000 deauville is worth :)

The crash bars are not plastic, they are plastic covers over metal bars attached to the frame, same as Pan European.

my deauville is from 1999 never missed a beat , so if you want a good mid range tour bike get one of these .

Under the crash bars is a metal cage, so they are pretty practical

This bike seems perfect for touring, all those options and pretty cheap! Hopefully I can get one restricted to 35kw for my a2 license.

The power socket is not original...it must be build in by the owner.
I had an accident with mine and should say, the crashbars did their work. The mayor downside on this bike for me would be the lack of fuel indicator.

I live my deauville and that "tiny Engine" pulls my fat ass along just fine and sounds good! Bullet proof, comfortable and practical machine.
Some people slag this bike off but I love it. Please ditch the annoying background music.

Well that´s a nice tip! On my transalp I don´t have a fuel gauge too so I will also check that using the trip meter :)
Yeah I jus must zero when I fill up and let it go about 200 miles. And I still have three reserve if needed.
