There is a highway on the top of the arch route 11 called the Lee highway. And Thomas Jefferson once owned it and George Washington servaded it and his initials are carved in the wall on the other side of the water . I was there about 15 years ago very nice place to visit. Ps when we where there there was a snake on the wall at the falls at the end of the video same as you seen.

      George Washington surveyed it.
Thomas Jefferson owned it and actually personally surveyed it while he was president.

My son says a good camping tip, is to take used, washed cans to cook with. you can keep eggs out for a few days, and just scramble them with a metal skewer, and add them to corned beef hash. Now I want to go camping too. Love your videos!

This brings back so many memories! This place was always a stop on our southern road trip every summer. Other stops were Luray Caverns and the Biltmore House. We used to drive Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway too. Our last visit was in 1980, I'm pretty sure, and we walked that trail and saw the arbor vitae tree. It was still alive at the time. We also saw George Washington's initials way up high on the arch.

What a beautiful awesome place! Yes, 8 dollars is a price I would pay for a good smooth surface to walk on. The otters would have been nice, but the snakes definitely were happy to be photographed. Thanks for this beautiful adventure!

Fantastic place to visit Cliff. Lots of things to see and take in while walking under shade, so lovely. Never seen a 1600 year old tree, how wonderful to see it still growing. Snakes looked as though they were waiting for lunch and having a nice sun bake.

You all need to come back after the COVID pandemic. The Monocan Tribe does a wonderful job of sharing their tribe's history and gives a great insight into woodland native tribes of the area.
They make it extra special. One of our favorite things about the park. Oh the Natural Bridge Caverns are very nearby and are really neat too.

Cliff, you have outdone yourself! This is the most spectacular, gorgeous, back-to-nature video you've done yet! Absolutely beautiful!
What a great place to contemplate those who came before!! Children sliding down the rocks, trying to catch fish, while moms and maidens washed clothes. Trudging through the forest to home, seeing what tonight's fresh catch dinner would be! Trout or rabbit, deer?
This reminds me so much of Tonto Nat'l Bridge in AZ. A large travertine bridge that you could hike down. Holding onto steel cables, watching your footing. At the bottom your reward was a cool 60° breeze, respit from 95°+ above. Laying on the boulders under the bridge while welcome droplets of water seep through the limestone shower you with what felt like ice water! The walk out was along the creek where maidenhair ferns abound. 💖
That was 30 years ago. I understand it's been more tourist driven, safe, and not near as adventurous as it was! I don't think you can climb the rocks below now.
Sorry to go on! Thanks for the great trip!!!

Thank you for sharing, some of my ancestors derive from Virginia and I can see why they settled in Minnesota after they left Virginia due to the civil war,. Confederate Marauders hung my grandfather and his sons left Virginia and fought for the Union, in the civil war and apparently they did find the men that did this to their father ( my grandfather)and they didn't live very long they found them and the rest is history

Natural Bridge blows away Arches National Monument in Utah. Different geology though. A sandstone arch the size of Natural Bridge would have probably collapsed under its own weight. No beautiful flowing streams at Arches either. You picked a good spot. Great video.

  • @OlWolf1011

Been there awhile ago. Smiled when you got to the first waterfall - and then the arbor vitae (white cedar) - old friends, like you say. Was holding my breath to hear what you said when you finally SAW it! I keep telling folks "You may have seen pictures - but I tell you - the photos DON'T do it justice! You hafta SEE it!" 😵 Yeah, it looks like an arch - but the Bridge is overhead - like you going through an underpass - but Nature and the Higher Power CUT this thing! When I went, I just HAD TO lean with my hands touching the wall to your right, and close my eyes for a moment... you can FEEL the History, the Eons - through the rock. Did you see George Washington's date-mark on the upper wall near the exit of the Bridge? He found that when on a surveyors' trip out west - lest it was back then. And Thomas Jefferson bought it to preserve it from anyone planting a homestead up there and ruining it. Now it's a park! I visited the Monacan village when they were just finishing building it. The People created this, do exhibits, and maintain it. Good folks! An hour northeast of leaving NB, you can hike Crabtree Falls. Tallest waterfall in VA!

  • @bobsretroelectronicswork-bn4qc

Two things you missed! 1. Standing under the center of the arch, look across the creek about 20’ high you would see a small white rectangle painted on the far wall. It surrounds the initials “G. W.”!!! Yes ,the area was surveyed by George Washington in 1750 and sold to Thomas Jefferson!
    2. The fence you see along the top is actually rt. 11 going over the top!
