  • This is a simple pie to make with fresh or frozen or canned rhubarb. I am using fresh today.

    A quick tip on store bought crust: after they come to room temp , unroll it on wax paper and roll it out. It is a thinner more crispy crust and it gives you a nice rim to seal and crimp. Roll out both pieces. You will be so glad. I also paint it with milk or cream and sprinkle it with what ever granulated sugar you have.
    It also makes an easy lattice crust which I prefer for fruit pies

    This was my late father in laws favorite. I had a large rhubarb plant in my garden & under the big leaves lived lot's of tiny frogs! They were such a joy & I always left leaves to make a shady home for them 🥧

    I don’t normally like store brand crusts. However, I saw online about how good Aldi’s pie crusts are. I took a chance and bought a box. In my opinion, it was better than the name brand crust. It was so light and easy to manage. If you try it, let me know what you think! 😋

    Maybe you should use corn starch or any starch instead of flour to make it less liquid. To let the rhubarb become something of a pudding. It would look more clean and beautiful. And use egg yolk for the frosting so make it softer.

    My grandpa used to make me a rhubarb pie for my birthday every year. I haven’t had one in years. I’m gonna have to find some rhubarb!

    I’m loving this season and my first with a lovely new rhubarb plant! It’s small still but I have big hopes and dreams for it! 😊
    Lil hint for you, Rene, if you roll out the bottom crust a bit it does fill a 8” pie dish. But if you want a better crust, make some batches of pie crust up and keep them in the freezer. Makes the pie taste like you worked hard on it. 😂

    Aldi’s has the best, closest to homemade. I use them for my pies I sell. People rave about it.

      It is pretty tart but sweet with the sugar. Like a sweet tart candy lol I wish it grew everywhere

    I find it better to .I. Sugar flour mixture to the bowl of fruit , then pour in crust then add melted butter over fruit then put top crust on.

    This is exactly how I make my mothers apple pie, except I use granny apples sliced very thin, and add cinnamon. I love your video's because they are truly real. I have sent much worse looking pies to school functions because they sell buy the slice, lol. I have so many questions about rhubarb, do you start it from seed, is it a perirenal, does it tase similar to celery?

      It is started from a root ball although the plants were here when we bought this place so I was lucky. It comes back every year in spring, one of the first plants to have leaves pop up in soil. It is very tart. And although it looks stringy, it isn’t really. It gets softer than celery. Technically I do believe it is a vegetable but used like fruit! Thank you so much! I want to be real and show how it is for me. 😊. Your mom’s pie sounds great! I will have to try that

    Great idea, I have to make my crust though, but not a problem. I can't eat pie from any restaurant, I'm spoiled by good pie crust, lol.

    You can roll out store bought pie crust just a bit to fit a deep dish pie plate. Works wonder.

    Trader Joe's is the best store bought pie crust. IMHO

      I have never tried theirs!!! Trader Joe’s is a couple hours away. My daughter goes occasionally, it will have to be on the list!

      I've always wanted to make a strawberry and rhubarb pie but never knew what to do with the rhubarb. Only seen it in the grocery store once. So I appreciate your video. I'll be looking for rhubarb in the store again. Thank you so much,can't wait to make a pie!
