Must have listened to this 100 times in the last couple of weeks, it just gets better and better. Saw JD and band in London a couple of weeks ago, life changing springs to mind!!!!!!
Beautiful.I love to hear talented musicians and singers keeping Buddy's music alive.He wrote some amazing songs that don't get the recognition they deserve.
I have been hooked on this video since first seeing it featured last Friday night on Paul Krugman's blog at the NY Times. Check out the Buddy Holly original version, and the LInda Ronstadt version... all very different, and with different interpretations; but all very good.
So, Ive been digging this and some other old timey tunz re-imagined by JD and friends... and the pop up ads start to become Post Life Planning and such, Creamation plans... And I'm like, Ha Ha Ha we fooled you, I'm nowhere near needing that sort of thing... {scanning the sky's for the bolt of lightning... }
@@CameronPykles With all due respect, Eva's cover is low-key and sweet, but other than the fact that she also sings with a female voice over an acoustic guitar, I don't hear much similarity to this soaring version.
@@camplethargic8 So you're saying that this version is more like Buddy Holly's original? And transcends both Eva Cassidy's version and the original? The dual guitars and vocal parts in this piece are beautifully done. It's just NOT original. Eva was.
@@CameronPykles Oh crap! I inadvertently listened to a COVER of Eva Cassidy's version! Now that I've listened to the *actual* Eva Cassidy version, I completely agree with you! Clearly, Lucius is singing her version, which I agree is beautiful in its interpretation and originality. Thanks for your reference, Eva Cassidy's version is amazing.
I'm not familiar with Lucius their usual material but this is such a gorgeous cover. It would only be better if it was louder so I can crank it up more. Plus Iron Maiden in the end 😀❤

Cool video, JD. Thanks for posting.

camera guy you rock this to epic level
what little riff does he do at the end?
Chandler Simental iron maiden's, number of the beast
Yes, Buddy Holly most famously recorded the song. Yes, so did Linda Ronstadt.
But the song was written by Paul Anka.
Written by Paul Anka, specifically for Buddy Holly and hen also donated his writer royalties to Buddy Holly's widow.
Sounds an awful lot like Eva Cassidy's cover to me.
