How do you nicely conceal the singed bits of the excess? also is there a way to join the handle so its not in the middle at the top and the joining part is more at the bottom?

For every foot of leash desired, you need to multiply by 16ft to get the needed amount of paracord...
2ft leash = 32ft of paracord
4ft= 64
and so on....

Just a little tip. When making a leash you are usually dealing with a substantial length of cord. If you form each one into a little "bundle" and secure it with a wire tie it makes the cord much easier to weave with. As you need more cord you just pull it out from the bundle and tighten the tie to keep the cord in a bundle
Yes, that is a great tip, I use that method when making long line braided leashes but I find it unnecessary on cobra style weave leashes though as the cord is easy to work for this style at any length so I would imagine it would actually make this style harder and time-consuming
@@Paracordingaround I just did a 5ft. leash I started out normal I then went to the bundle method It was much easier than pulling 40ft. of cord each weave. More importantly I used 80ft. of cord as per the formuler. I ended up with 11ft. left over on each side even though i used four cords down the middle. had I not done that I would have had more ft. left over?
Took me about 2 hours but i finally got it down! Probably the best video I have found so far i literally cant even with some of these videos first time I have ever tried to paracord but i managed to make exactly what i wanted #proud thank you!!!
Ok so..at the beginning when you are tying the knots on to the clip, your two outer pieces are short, then when you start the square knots, they’re long?
I used scrap pieces at the begining to to make it easier to film rather than pulling a larger amount of cord through.
How do you keep the handle thick also with only 1 string you’re wrapping around? I notice my handle looks smaller than the rest of the leash.
Everything was fine until I got to where you do the handle 😤
I only see you pull one 3 ft strand through an then it went too fast for me to follow

You need a six foot piece that you pull through that makes two 3 foot halves.
That was confusing? Where did I miss how to join the handle together?

The length you pull through is the length the leash will be.

If you are making something with this much cord, put your pull cord on a shuttle. Makes it easier to work with rather than pulling 30+ feet of cord to start.

Hi, you certainly can use 2 colours, even just using one colour for the 6ft cord and another for the longer cord looks great!!
Explain better I don’t understand when you say pull the loop end 4.5 feet then secure it when you pull the 64ft cord a foot to secure it
Pull the loop end of your cord through the snap hook, stopping at 4.5 feet and secure it to the snap (the distance bestween the top of the loop and the snap hook is 4.5 feet). the 4.5 feet is the length of your leash and the rest is what you are using the weave the leash.

ok. I really found your video very helpful. I made the same color and size just recently. Now I am trying to make a 6ft with 2 colors. not entirely sure on the formula you used in order to figure out the length. how would I go about figuring out the formula that you used for the length of the leash?
Hi I'm glad the video was helpful for you. The general rule for cobra weave is 1ft per inch in length. so start by converting everything into inches
e.g for this 4ft lead
4ft lead length= 48inches
6inch handle( you need to double the length to allow for each side of the handle) = 12inches
that gives us a total of 60inches for cord needed.
I then add an extra 4ft as depending on how tightly you make your weaves you may end up using slightly more than 1ft per inch and it also give you plenty to grip onto while to making the last few weaves.
So for a 6ft lead with 6 inch handle I would use 88ft (84ft total +4ft extra) the short second cord piece would still be 6ft(half the total handle cord length), if you want say a 7inch handle the shorter cord piece would be 7ft.

You'll need one foot of cord per one inch in length of the leash.

It is amusing to see the comments about adjusting the length of the leash and not knowing how to do it. I wonder if they used to give their math instructors a hard time about not needing math. I am going to put a few questions on my next exam related to this.
I wish I could see the whole entire leash instead the top part. The bottom part looks like it already has loop. How that work. Very confusing . Video was no help at all
Hi, sorry you don't find the video helpful. Yes there is a loop at the bottom of the leash, its created when you pull the cord through the snaphook at the beginning. I will add a link to another video of mine which is the same leash as this one, just made with 2 colours instead, hopefully you will find that one more helpful.

Melt another piece of cord to the end of the cord and you'll be able to continue your leash 😀

The leash would be shorter but yes, you could do it. Use the one foot per one inch in length to calculate your leash length.

Handles can be difficult to master but they get much easier each time, try using my two colour leash video of this leash as it has a better angle, it might help you figure it out.

haha, It does take a bit of practice to get used to working with long cords, with covbra weaves you can put the cord that is not being worked (pulled through) directly under the leash and when you pull through the working cord, flick it out to the side of your body. I find that stops majority of tangles.

I tend to run out of cord before I reach my 6 inch. Any tips to correct this?
That would mean you are either have an incorrect measurement of cord so it's too short for the length of your leash or your making your leash longer than you calculated for. Double check your measurements and see if they are correct. I would add a few extra feet or cord more than what you think you need incase too
HINT: You only have to pull the loop over the snap.

Hi, use the formula - one foot per one inch in length.
If 64ft makes. 4tt leash how much would I need to make a 6 ft one?
6ft leash x 16 ft of paracord = 96 feet of paracord to make a 6 ft leash.
Maybe use some words it would make it so much easier

Hi Thank you, you can pick them up in hardware stores they are called a snap hook, I use the 20mm size.The one in the video is from Bunnings warehouse. I do tend to purchase them online now from the same site as I buy my cord wwwcamscords.com.au. I'm Australian so these two places may not be an option for you depending on where you live but your local hardware store or even a farming store may have them. I've seen a lot available online from overseas but being in Australia the shipping cost for me is extremely expensive and takes too long to ship so I only buy from Australian sites. Hope this helps!

HI! Yes it will, paracord has a breaking strength of about 225kg (550pounds). I have a kelpie who pulls extremely hard on the lead especially when she spots the dog park and I have never had a problem:) her collar is also made of paracord and that too has never come apart either:)
so this video is very helpful. only instead of a 4ft leash I need to make an 8ft leash.
HI thank you,you can make an 8ft just by doubling the length of the 64ft cord in the video and when the video says the pull the cord through the hook stopping at 4.5ft, stop at 8.5ft instead:) all the rest of the instructions will remain the same!
Paracordingaround so I had already figured out my numbers. when I pulled the cord through I measured 8ft. I'm using a full 100ft of green 550 paracord. hopefully it will be enough. I only make leashes when requested.

question for more experienced people: 65 FT paracord is approx. 19 meters. When folded, it is 9.5 meters each end. How do you manipulate it? I mean, it took me a day just to prepare everything. Also, it seems that cords are much shorter on every tutorial video. pls help.
Hi, when I prepare for making a product, I always calculate how much cord I need in feet as its much easier to calculate than using meters as the general rule is 1 foot of cord per 1 inch in length, but when I am measuring out a piece of cord to cut it I switch to using meters as its just a lot quicker to count per meter than it is to count per foot.im not sure what you by manipulate it, do you mean know how do I find a centre of the cord in order to begin the weave? the easiest way is by hold the two ends of the cord together in one hand and use other hand to pull them through your hand until you reach the centre of the cord.
As for the cord length, I have included a little extra cord in the length to ensure you don't accidently end up short, different tutorials will always have different cord lengths as the length of the leash/product they are making will vary as well as different types of weaves require different amounts of cord. hope this helps:)
hi. thanks for answering. when i say 'manipulate' i mean who do you control your cords? for me, they get entangled very easily... when cords are shorter, its pretty easy. also i realized that i need a lot of workspace. any advice how to cut cord to certain measure? its not like i can stretch 19 meters somewhere. thanks. you are awsome :)
Hi, when I first started I used to end up with tangles all the time, it depends on the weave I'm doing at the time but for example, with the cobra weave, the strand that is creating the outer edge of the leash(the one you are pulling through to make each weave) is the only cord that is actually moving while you are making the leash, so what I do is always make sure I keep the leash directly in front of me and have stationary cord (the one that is making the horizontal pattern down the centre of the cord) resting directing under the leash so when I pull through the other cord it cant get tangled with it. As I pull the moving cord through I pull it so it lands in a pile to side of me instead pulling it directly down. if I'm doing a braid style, i always end up with a little tangling but i just make about 5 or 6 movements then hold end of the braid with one hand and use the other hand of untangle the cord and repeat.
most of the time I am just sitting a standard size desk, about 1.3m wide, to make my leashes. I just clip the leash the draw while I make it.
There many ways to cut cords but I find the easiest way for me is if I'm measuring an cutting the cord off a 'hank' of cord, I use two heavy weight candle stick holders on my desk that I hook the Hank over to help stop it tangling while unravelling it, I have this on the side of my desk that the 0cm mark of the measuring tape will be. Then I have my measuring tape, the style you would use to make clothing and stick it my desk using washi tape. then I just grab the start of cord, lay it along the measuring tape and use my fingers to mark the 1 metre/foot, then just keep repeating the process over and over until I reach the amount I need.
if I'm measuring out a long length I just use a click counter app on my phone to keep track of how many metres I've measured, I used to lose count all the time and have to start again, it drove me insane, since using an app its so much easier and quicker.
