This legit has been how I've dealt with hiccups since this first aired. I think it has only failed maybe once. Which over the course of several years is quite the feat.
Same!
Same here
Kind of like how breathing into your palm can stop brain freeze.
same
@@vodsanity4861or pressing your tounge to the roof of your mouth
This is a game changer. Works every damn time. Arin is not just the video game boy, he's the hiccup prevention boy too.
It _has_ to be the fact that you're trying to do it as lightly as possible. It gets your brain to think about that specific task and _not_ how irritated your diaphragm is at the moment. That's my theory anyway.
I think it's also connected to you having to breathe softly in order to stop your head from bobbing. Since holding your breath sometimes works as well, this makes sense to me.
yeah I think all of those little tricks are just about getting you focused on something else really intensely
I don't think so. I was doing this the exact same, but with different fingers, and it was not until I used my pinkies that it worked. It only ever works for me when I use my pinkies. I have no idea why this is.
@@J--Dubs It's related to a couple types of nerves that around the eyes and other parts of your body. Stimulating the nerve helps stop the hiccups. Your mouth and ears also house the nerve, so there are methods involving those areas to stop hiccups, but we all know the eye one works at the very least.
My recipe against hiccups is that:
Ask the person what their last meal was.
Then, what was the meal before that.
Then, what before that.
So on and so forth for a few minutes.
It only failed once as far as I can remember and I'm using this strategy for years at this point.
But it's nice to have a new trick up my sleeve now!
icecream pizza icecream pizza icecream pizza...
Touching your eyeballs causes the oculocardiac reflex, which reduces your heart rate and in doing so helps to relax more. dont rub your eyes hard though or you could damage them
thanks dr. partsx
Instructions unclear, dick stuck in eye socket. Halp.
@@Crunchatize_Me_Senpai Impressive... Most impressive. But you are not a Jedi yet.
@@houserspeed It hurts
@@houserspeed It’s been 25 hours
I definitely do this all the time now and it works every time. Insane.
I can guarantee I will forget about this trick the next time I get hiccoughs and later kick myself. Then forget about it the next time it happens and kick myself again in a repeating cycle until I die.
Sounds like Arin's relationship with sonic games
Someone gets it. This is exactly what will happen to me
Just condition yourself to think of Detroit every time anyone hiccups, you'll remember then. 😆
@@Amy_Dunn That just adds another layer of stuff I won't remember 🤣
Just remember 4head
It's been years since I saw this and heard Arin explain the remedy to hiccups. I am still dumbfounded by the fact that Arin Hanson has single handedly improved my life physically without having ever met him. The eyelid thing is still very uncommonly known too.
Arin told him this trick in another playthrough. But I think he told him to hold his pinkiefingers an atoms lenght away from his eyelash.
This trick legitimately works for me. It's amazing.
I was with my brother in law and we were both drunk and he was hiccuping for 30 minutes straight, kept trying to get him to do it and he’d be like; “nah man” “shit don’t work like that man”, finally caved. Works every time. Mind blown.
I wish I had known about this like...I think it was about 10 years ago. I legit had hiccups for about 4 days straight. It would wake me up at night. My chest was killing me. I had to get some medication, and it wasn't even a cure for hiccups, it was for something else that just happened to soothe my system.
ever since I developed what I think is a hiatal hernia, hiccups fucking HURT. so I had to learn how to just.. stop. just like i had to learn to stop sneezing because it set off my allergies. This would have been really useful to know back then, I had to just hold my breath and press all the internal voluntary muscles really hard
I've been using this for years since this episode aired.
Other tricks that try to slow your heart rate don't have the same success rate
I finally got to try this and was as shocked as Dan that it worked! Told my brother the trick when he had them and he thought I was insane, when it worked he said "I'm gonna tell everyone this trick and take credit for it" lmao
I had remembered this clip all wrong. I had been touching the tip of my nose as lightly as possible with my eyes closed instead of my eyelids. Doesn't matter though, because both have always worked
I tried this once, but I hiccup so violently and then tried to move my fingers to compensate I poked both my eyes hard. So then I was stuck laughing at the stupidity of the predicament while hiccuping, but that actually reset my diaphragm.
it works because you are focusing on something else besides the hiccups
This is how I deal with hiccups ever since this aired
so the thing about hiccups is it's caused by having too much oxygen, usually happens because you gasp from being surprised or sucking in air while eating spicy food etc.
so all the tricks, like holding your breath or drinking water, solve it by trying to make you use up oxygen for a moment.
touching your eyelids very carefully works by making you unconsciously slow down your breathing.
I just had the hecups and remembered this video, now I've got em no more.
Literally how does that even work?
He said this in a more recent episode, and I've been doing it ever since whenever I have hiccups.
I needed this yesterday lol you HAD to wait to post it today?!
No, you don't understand the pain I was in lol the most painful hiccups I've ever had lol the last 3 days in a row
My favorite trick for getting rid of hiccups is naming 10 bald men
This has worked for me.
This tip has done wonders for me at least, has worked on others the majority of the time I explain it.
I usually just drink tons of water but I'll try this next time for sure.
I went over a year without hiccups and when I got them again today, I remembered there was something with putting fingers lightly over the eyes discussed in Game Grumps, but it just didn't work. Then I looked up this video to see if I was doing it right and I wasn't. I WAS pressing as lightly as possible over my closed eyelids, but I was using my index and middle fingers. After watching this video, I switched to using my pinkies and the effect was IMMEDIATE! My diaphragm feels sore as hell since I was just dealing with the hiccups for many hours, but holy cow, the pinkies lightly over the eyes thing really works. Though it's weird that it only works for the pinkies.
Once I started doing this I haven't gone back
I'll have to try this next time, I've been using the spoon full of sugar method and that works every time so far.
I actually tried this after I saw this episode, and it actually worked. I also figured out it also works if you try and do the same thing but with your thumb and finger barely touching... For when you need it in public and don't want to feel like a tool. 😆
Or just embrace feeling like a tool. Just start panicking and screaming “I CAN’T SEE! HELLLP!”
Arin Hanson, wizard
I do this and it gets rid of them every single time. I told my parents about this and they laughed at me but guess who no longer had hiccups, that’s right me. I do that and it works for me every single time.
Arin it just keeps working
I always did the Gavin Free thing where I would anticipate the next one, and it would never come
I swallow the air 3 times.
I had to come back to make sure I was doing it right. I wasn't. Using your pinky finger is IMPERITIVE.
It stimulates the Vagus nerve
I forgot about this. I will def try it next time I get a hiccup
one thing that sounds incredibly dumb but actually works for me is just telling yourself to stop having hiccups. like actually that's it. that's how i get rid of my hiccups. works every time and also works pretty much immediately. i think i heard it from gavin free on a roosterteeth video somewhere.
that plus learning what brings them on and avoiding it (usually means burping the very second you feel you need to, and inducing burping if you feel one in there that's getting stuck)
Literally anything that makes you focus on something else works for hiccups.
Maybe it can be anything as long as you're relaxing your breathing. Unfortunately I haven't got a chance to try this because I haven't got any more-than-once hiccups for the last 4-5 years.
Works every time
I got the hiccups from forcing myself to cough a bunch because it feels like there's some gunk way down in my lungs...
After 15 minutes or so I remember and exclaimed "NOW I CAN FINALLY TRY THE EYELID TRICK"
Can't believe it actually worked. Took like a minute, but I just chilled and relaxed, leaned back in my chair, and they just stopped coming after a little bit.
I just breathe as fast as my heartbeat which usually gets rid of hiccups instantly.
Minor hyperventilation to get rid of an hour of extremely painful hiccups is a small price to pay fr
I just make myself burp. Usually does the trick
Can confirm this works, have done such since first seeing this and it's only not worked once or twice.
I want hiccups now to try this.
Dan's hiccups are adorable.
Thank yiu arin 😭
Just did it. It worked. Goddamn.
I've tried this a few times since this episode aired, and it never worked for me. I can touch my eyelids just fine without hiccuping, but as soon as I'm done it continues.
What works for me is I get half a glass of water, bend over it (have to be standing), get a mouthful from the opposite edge of the glass and swallow it while still bent over. Works for me 19 times out of 20, and the one failure is due to sloppy execution. I'm told it works because it stretches whatever hiccuping causes to convulse.
just tried it and holy shit it works
ARIN IT WORKED
It's got something to do with the aschner reflex, which affects your stomach and heart.
Fuck if I know but Ima try it next time
I will say I’ve used this pretty much every time and uh.. yeah. It works. It’s only not worked 2 or 3 times.
Drinking while holding my breath have been my go-to hiccup remover for years and it works every time, too.. If you think of hiccups as cramps, anything that makes that muscle relax will make it go away..
i just tried it and it worked
The guaranteed one is you have to punch yourself in the nuts while doing a backflip and have garlic in your shoes.
Or so I heard.
lol
That's an oddly specific fetish you have there.
I'm going to try this next time i get hiccups, my go to was holding my breath and swallowing spit, then waiting for a few seconds then try to inhale more to the point where i cant anymore then slowly releasing air.
i can legit tell you that this 100% is a case by case basis. it can easily not work for you. example: i tried this trick and it only worked like once so far out of the 5 times ive had to deal with hiccups since that episode went up. which seems like an oddly low amount of times to deal with hiccups over the last few years now that i think about it...
How does this keep working
OH MY FUCKING GOD IT FUCKING WORKED! Ok. Imma be real. I thought this was bullshit. But i had hiccups at work and i was thinking "what was that trick he said?" I used my pointer finger and it didnt work, and i was like "yeah this is bullshit....... lemme look it up just in case" and i tried it and it worked.
okay but actually just produce reverse suction and suck the burp out. its just your body trying to get that burpy out
i think it's focus and thats why you lose the hickups
am i right about this?
Kind of, yeah. The best hiccup cures are ones that control your breathing unconsciously, like giving you something to concentrate on so your breathing slows down and steadies.
60 percent of the time its worked every time
I started doing this ever since I saw it in the episode lol. I figured out how it works but I won’t spoil the magic for y’all.
Wait this actually works? Wtf?
I've never seen this playthrough so I didn't know about this But HOLY SHIT THAT ACTUALLY WORKED I've never heard of that trick before I'll have to try it next time I get the hiccups
Btw Danny's hiccups are adorable I'm sorry ur in pain when you get them but there just SO DANG CUTE lol
Day 90 of honouring The Only Thijs and continuing to wait for "does Bruno Mars is gay?
John Cena Approved
Add "incredulity" to the list of words/phrases Arin doesn't know how to use.
this isn't even funny, it's just a nice trick lol
Demon's Souls when? Come the fuck on. Answer us after me posting this sh*t 21 times across videos.
