I'm considering a Mahindra. Most people aren't aware, but they can be fitted with Lane Departure Detect free of charge after purchase. It's called, use your eyes to look at the road and stop looking at your damn phone whilst driving.
@@er.m.s8930Mahindra would failed miserably if they took it to hard core off-road. Tank 300 on the hand is for Hard core off-road, not soft off-road like they did in this video. There are tons of videos where Tank 300 competing with jeep Rubicon, Toyota parado and many more established brands.
@@OkOk-qd2nc Lol wat are you even saying 😂😂, Autocar India took it for some hardcore offroad in their offroad day and the Scorpio N performed reall well there true its not in the level of Tank300
No denying, in hardcore off-road(Not for practicality but solely for enjoyment), tank is way better(but only after suspension and tyre upgrade) Whereas, Scorpio-N is build for Urban and mild off-road usually encounter in day-day life.
If I had to choose, it’d be the Mahindra over the GWM. As far as the active safety tech goes, I see a lot of reviewers bagging the Mahindra for not having it, but then I see the same reviewers in other cars, with active safety tech fitted, turning those systems off, because they are invasive and don’t work as they should. What’s better, having none of the active safety tech and knowing you need to more observant on the road, or, have sub standard active safety tech, and be constantly distracted by those systems while driving? It’s an easy choice for me. Just my 2 cents. 🙂🍺
You sour like a lemon, tell you what , all hardcore 4x4 off road SUV have similar design, look the new Toyota Prado, land rover , Jeep, that's all square design with round lights, that is the popular design, not just copy, the technology and off road ability can't be copied, the fact talks, not with some kind discrimination options
the 300's weak point is it's load capacity - only 400kgs. that means it cant legally carry 5 adults, which is a terrible design choice and should render it unable to be a 5 star safety rating. in the real world it means it cannot tow a 2.5t, 250kg towball caravan with even ONLY a driver onboard. both these examples are assuming there is literally nothing in he car besides humans. no phone,m no fridge, no towbar (they weigh 40kgs+), nothing.
A wider track width on the new Mahindra Scorpio n shall make it to perform better on straight long run plain Tarmac and perform better on off-road obstacles on off road driving ., but I don’t think the vehicle will withstand with confident stability on 30 or 40 kmph run on a bumpy urban terrain Tarmac.,
Pack both vehicles with the typical gear for a week long camping trip and then do the same tests again. I haven't seen ANY real world tests of the Tank
More computerised electrickery inside a Chinese-made car isn't a good thing, for me. My experiences to date with rentals has convinced me that budget car makers simply don't do a great job of the computerised stuff and, when that includes so-called 'autonomous safety systems', I just see problems waiting to happen. In this sense, the Mahindra, despite having fewer bells and whistles, appears to suffer similar problems, i.e. complaints about the hill hold and something else I can't recall. These issues, especially infotainment connection problems, seem to occur with some of the major manufacturers too, though much less common.
@dune7824 you got me wrong. Older proven technology is more reliable than newer tech in many cases, only if Those older-tech products are made by someone know how to make good products.
Hey Matt, have you seen the video posted by John Cadogan on Tank 300? I'm interested in hearing your view on the braking system issue of Tank 300, not sure if this can't be fixed or a serious flaw. Thanks.
The issue was not the braking system. It's the soft springs on the suspension. A set of firm springs will fix it with ease. John Cardogan didn't even test drive one and bag the car.....
Yeah mate, I have seen it, and I've spoken to Brett from Driving Enthusiast about it, too. It's a concern, that's for sure. I am looking forward to seeing if the hybrid exhibits the same behaviour in a few weeks. Stay tuned!
Mahindra really needs to get rid of the Auto start stop. Drives me nuts. The Tank is a more refined product. Apart from the price, I don't know why anyone would get the Mahindra. The DEF tank is also precautiously placed, with no protection.
@@adarshchandran2594 You turn it off and it comes on after every ignition cycle. You HAVE to turn it off every time. It's not just a setting. The the most frustrating part is it turns off the ignition within one second of the car idling
I think tank has more features and good interiors where as Mahindra is a good in engineering powerful engine good milage and tough ladder on frame body
I suggest you evaluate China's heavy-duty semi-trailers, which are the core. Personal products are not the first choice to Chinese in China. China has the world's largest traction semi-trailer, the Shacman X6000.
The brake testing on the Tank causing its rear wheels to lift up couid become catastrophic in an emergency braking . The GWM might be good, but its no where near great . Any vehicle that ends up on its front wheels because the rear end cant keep contact with the pavement is toatally unacceptable. Despite the Mahindra missing some active safety gear, id take it over the GWM . GWM obviously still have a lot of work to do
Why do people (stupidly) always associate good handling with firm/heavy steering and steering feel? It's the opposite. Good handling = numb steering, no steering feel, and SUPER light steering effort and body roll. This is what comfort-conscious people consider good handling. Get it right.
??? Good handling is where you can feel what exactly the car is doing and what are the grip levels at all 4 corners. Handling is not for Comfort conscious Granny’s. just drive a Van.
If you ask anyone who has done off roading or need to off road. The thing you are calling unrefined is actually a very important feature. Just like when most of the cars went the electric Power steering route everyone who is serious about driving was missing the confidence in the steering as you felt disconnected. If you are driving you need to know what all 4 wheels are doing …
@@therightcar You serious 😂? What is steering feel ? It’s the only reason McLaren uses Electro - hydraulic steering rather than going with the obvious choice to go with full electric steering which is lighter.

Better for tech but you have to turn it off 😂 what about cost of fuel? Petrol Tank is costing a lot more per 1000km. 300 braking isn’t good? Hmmm in a heavy suv sounds reassuring.
Mahindra do have safety tech in there XUV700 & could easily put those in before selling these in Australia.. mahindra should not have put half baked product for their target customer..
Watching a recent hard, full on brake test with the GWM, I’d be concerned in a real life scenario. I think you’ll find it via John Cadogan, via another UA-camrs channel. When heavily braked, the Tanks rear wheels left the ground completely! Bugger that Matt.👎🏼😱
I really prefer the Mahindra as it is less pretentious and less complex. Fewer gadgets to go wrong… Also, being from India, it is designed to withstand considerable abuse from the road conditions it’s likely to encounter everyday in that country. Anything from bumpy city streets to rutted bush tracks that turn into slippery mud during the monsoon rains…. Everyone in Australia seems to want a car that’s just a shiny computerised gadget on wheels - I just want a car I can depend on, no matter the road conditions.
I watch this in my 80 series diesel landcruiser with twin lockers ive had for 25 years and i shake my head at these plastic toys. Try 1.5m deep watercrossing with snorkel in these electric devices 😂
They both are good but if you see at the moment of australian market they need something can do both city , country and Off roading in Budget, So i think Tank 300 has that, Mahindra is a big name of the asian and south African market , but when come to city driving and off roading we need Mahindra Thar not scorpio
I want to love the tank 300, but it just have bugger all carry weight capacity and the back wheels lifting off the ground in an emergency brake is a huge nope.
The tank300 does look good! but if I had to buy 4x4! I I take the Mahindra Scprpio for many reason! fuel economy, cheaper to buy! better brakes, and it would be safer for longer trips! and less chances would go wrong! it has less electronics! it's easier to use the heating and air-conditioning which make safer to function! rather touch screen! it as standard Hand brakes! and able to tow! I would trust the old school 6 speed automatic gearbox more then others automatic gearbox because 8 or 10 speed Gearbox......
I am researching those off-road cars, and found similar complaints from Chinese forums. This is definitely a calibration issue, front suspension is soft and weight is not well balanced. Change a harder spring on front suspension would mitigate. It’s a pity cuz tank300 is the best small size off road I could find, but this issue really limits its handling ability.
Dude, Your Review is definitely biased towards Tank 300 may TANK paid you for this review…n funny part is you are comparing the refinement and sound of 2.0L Petrol Engine vis-a-vis Diesel 2.2L engine…. Though you are right on tech provided by Tank300 are much more AC compared to Scorpio N…

What the hell…. Mahindra is providing the best value within the budget. May be more value than you pay. If you need more quality interiors you can go for benz or something like that. Chinese cars are always Chinese. Can you run this Chinese car for 30 years as Mahindra cars does?
Don't expect Chinese cars to have Mercedes level of fit and finish. Moreover, the state of tune is pretty high and it might wear out the engine faster.
One word : RELIABILITY. It's like comparing Toyotas to a Chinese car. Mahindras are much more reliable workhorse in the long run just like a Toyota. Also we get a buttery smooth 200hp petrol engine too. I took a test drive on both diesel and petrol but what i heard from other petrol owners is that poor fuel efficiency.
Scorpio will easily beat the tank in any aspect be it on road or off road,it does lack advance security features such as adas but Mahindra has xuv700 which has all those features. And you gotta be a good driver to drive a vehicle rather depend too much on technology and other stuffs like that.Scorpio has got 5star rating in GNCAP due to its sturdy build quality and protection of passengers.
Tank looks like a typical chinese cut, copy and paste from here, there n everywhere. It literally looks like a cocktail of Jeep wrangler and G wagon. Where is the originality n character in the Gwm tank? Whereas the Scorpio has an identity and character of its own with great off-road capabilities for a vehicle thats is meant for urban family use also. Scorpio combines the best of both urban SUVs n serious Offroaders with highly proven ruggedness and longevity which Chinese products simply can't match.

Mahindra has the required capabilities of a 4x4 which 99% people will ever need !! Camera - ill give that to the GWM . Too many modes for 4x4 - i donno , whilst its a interestung gimmik, its also a perfect disaster waiting to happen ( thats why we go with keep it simple stupid motto ) Lastly all the gimmicks ( lane keep etc etc ) , people i feel are loosing the ability to drive and natural instincts that every driver should have

i think the mahindra, diesel , braking with the tank, cheaper, still capable off road, down sides, i would remove the rear seats so probably would have to get a mod plate and i would switch the engine off switch off... lotto win though, i would get tank hev and upgrade suspension and tyres to stop those real wheels lifting
Fair enough!
The tank 300 is a smart choice
I'm considering a Mahindra. Most people aren't aware, but they can be fitted with Lane Departure Detect free of charge after purchase. It's called, use your eyes to look at the road and stop looking at your damn phone whilst driving.

It's no contest actually...the tank is heaps better. Mahindra only wins on value and the diesel economy.
Better? Ok
Heaps better? Nah!!

No denying, in hardcore off-road(Not for practicality but solely for enjoyment), tank is way better(but only after suspension and tyre upgrade)
Whereas, Scorpio-N is build for Urban and mild off-road usually encounter in day-day life.
I actually prefer the mahindra it has its own personality, the tank looks like another jeep muxed with g wagon
LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLL, Im sure you do
For me I don't buy a car for it's personality I rather buy a car that serves my needs with the best price which the tank 300 does

OP must be Indian 😂
the 300's weak point is it's load capacity - only 400kgs. that means it cant legally carry 5 adults, which is a terrible design choice and should render it unable to be a 5 star safety rating.
in the real world it means it cannot tow a 2.5t, 250kg towball caravan with even ONLY a driver onboard.
both these examples are assuming there is literally nothing in he car besides humans. no phone,m no fridge, no towbar (they weigh 40kgs+), nothing.

A wider track width on the new Mahindra Scorpio n shall make it to perform better on straight long run plain Tarmac and perform better on off-road obstacles on off road driving ., but I don’t think the vehicle will withstand with confident stability on 30 or 40 kmph run on a bumpy urban terrain Tarmac.,
This mahindra gives a vibe of Parado i don't know why...but looks like it can take hardcore abuses !
Yep! It’s got a Prado-style profile.
The Mahindra looks like a design from early 2000.
I know. It's so nostalgic. The technology is old school reliable too.
@dune7824 Old technology≠reliable. I personally have more trust on cars from a country that can build it's own space station and 6th gen. fighter...

@@tacticalaccountant that's right, I do think he's really biased and jumped too quickly to the conclusion only based on videos. Thanks

Scorpio vehicles are known for its durability. Ita always perform above its price
Good stuff.
Mahindra really needs to get rid of the Auto start stop. Drives me nuts. The Tank is a more refined product. Apart from the price, I don't know why anyone would get the Mahindra. The DEF tank is also precautiously placed, with no protection.
Auto start stop is optional.if u don't need it just shut it off
@@adarshchandran2594 You turn it off and it comes on after every ignition cycle. You HAVE to turn it off every time. It's not just a setting. The the most frustrating part is it turns off the ignition within one second of the car idling

GWM obviously still have a lot of work to do
The Grand Cheerokee and Hilux failed the moose test but still sold very well. Not many people had concerns back then.....

Would stiffer rear shocks fix this?
@@daweigo6851 it's apparently a calibration issue
Why do people (stupidly) always associate good handling with firm/heavy steering and steering feel?
It's the opposite. Good handling = numb steering, no steering feel, and SUPER light steering effort and body roll. This is what comfort-conscious people consider good handling. Get it right.
??? Good handling is where you can feel what exactly the car is doing and what are the grip levels at all 4 corners. Handling is not for Comfort conscious Granny’s. just drive a Van.

Very high, but I've got the Hybrid in a few weeks to see if it can do better.
