  • This is a quick video that I made of my Martin HD 28 with the LR Baggs Anthem SL pickup. I don’t have much experience with video production, so I apologize for the video quality. Hopefully that will improve as I get more experienced.
    I plan on making more videos like this in the future, because I’ve found that quality demos for some acoustic products are hard to find. If you find this helpful let me know.
    Posted below is a link to a shorter form of this video where each of the clips are side by side in order to make it easier to hear the difference between the sound of each source.

    Thanks for the demo on this . I’m having the LR Baggs Anthem SL installed in my Epiphone Inspired by Gibson J45. I enjoyed the accent too. Sounds like you’re from my neck of the woods in North Carolina

    I have the full anthem in my D-28 and D18 and they are the most natural sounding acoustic pickups on the market. I like the full anthem for the ability to blend the amount of tru-mic and piezo depending on the situation. But you’ve got a good sound with the venue DI.

      Totally agree. These Anthem pickups are the most authentic sounding acoustic pickups on the market. The Venue DI is kinda pricey, but it’s a great piece of gear. I use it to adjust my sound depending on the room.

      Maybe the most authentic sounding that you can buy on their own but Cole Clark and Maton make some amazing acoustic pickups that get “the most acoustic sounding pickups in the world” sound.

    Do you edit the sound? or is it that clear? no noise?

    • @Jhfstudio

      There is no Post processing on this audio. The pickup is just that clear. How you set the gain rotary on these pickups makes a big difference in how quiet they are too though. So it's important to get that adjustment set correctly for your personal taste.

    Great video. So if you have tone and gain adjustments on the input and you also have tone and gain adjustments on your acoustic amp which one should you may making adjustments on? Is it better to have the pick up the flat and do everything on the amp or vice versa?

      Great question! If you are using an acoustic amp, then you shouldn't need anything between the guitar and the amp. So generally in your case, all of the adjustments should be made on the amplifier. The only exception would be if your signal is too weak going to the amplifier, but that is very rare because amps are made to accept raw guitar signals. I use a DI because I am going about 100 feet to a mixer in the FOH. In my case, it's important to get the gain adjusted correctly on the input to the board. The "tone" is mostly personal preference. I EQ to what I like on stage (on my DI), but ultimately FOH EQ's the mix that the audience hears. Hope that helps! Thanks for question!

    Just picked up a 214 Taylor without a pickup, was hoping this route sounded even better than ES2 system but have my doubts. Heard some mixed info on these that they can be boomy and bassy. Paid $450 for guitar so plus this pickup and install $275 it’ll be more than 214e used at almost 800. Debating on the full anthem and not SL cause it could be good for looping some percussion taps on the body. Where did you install the mic? Under the bridge? Someone said it sounds less boomy if you mount it in front of bridge under strings / soundboard?

      I've had a lot of different pickups, and I play with a lot of other musicians frequently, so I've had an opportunity to try most of the pickups on the market. IMO the anthem sounds a lot more "natural" than the ES2. It can be boomy, but it depends on the guitar. In my Martin HD28 I usually EQ a little of the Bass out, but on my OM-28 I boost the bass a little. My mic is mounted under the bridge just behind the strings. I've been meaning to do a video on the SL vs the full Anthem. I currently have guitars with both... I personally prefer the SL though.

      @@Jhfstudio Awesome insight! really good to hear man! Would you say your SL is mounted in the recommended place then? because I think thats where they suggest placing it... best!

      @Jhfstudio  3 роки тому

      @@DanielGennaro Yes. I feel like it is mounted where the instructions state to place it. I've actually installed 5 of these now, and I usually tend to place them on the back side (toward the end pin) of the bridge plate. That way there is still enough room for you to work if there is an issue with a bridge pin sticking, or something of that nature. They sound great!
