Waited and went for the Mini 7 - glad I did. The improvements in performance are noticeable - not earth shattering, but better. This new one should last for several years.
You can also swipe up on the iPad Mini 5 to access all the apps. Mine is fast and not "dirt slow" as you called all older gadgets. This doesn't feel like a proper comparison video, you just talked about the 7 with vague terms like super fast. You barely talked about the 5 in day-to-day use. You didn't even talk about the price of both in the market (your title is worth the upgrade price but no mention of prices at all?)
I just gave a real life visual show of how slow it is. I talk about old tech on this channel all the time and constantly recommend it. This product isn’t worth recommending.
Agree with @gabobli, was shocked when I saw it’s like 30 seconds to open Books, so tried right now, and not my experience at all… anyway whatever. Same thing I tried with App Store, and can swip up from bottom for all apps. I mean would I buy the 5 today? Maybe for the right price. It’s current on iOS and not dirt slow IMO.
Just upgraded from the 5 to the 7. With my trade-in, it actually cost me a bit less than my 5. It’s the form factor that works for me - don’t need anything bigger - and really complements my iPhone 13 Mini. Thanks for the content.
Using my iPad Mini 5 as we speak. Mine is extremely smooth still. I own 10 year old phones that don't move as slow as your iPad mini lol. I can pretty much do whatever I want to do with my iPad mini 5 still. I buy my family the bigger and better iPads. I use them occasionally, but holding my iPad Mini without having to worry about accidental touches to the screen is a huge benefit. I do tons of research on it, watch videos, gaming, etc. Battery needs to charge every so often but still beast. Still getting updates too!
I have an iPad mini 5 that was sealed in the package and another that I’ve been using for a while (just did a factory reset). The one fresh out of the box is running noticeably smoother than the one I’ve been using for over a year.
Do the chips slow down over time? I mean a reset should clear out anything that’s bogging the chip down so it’s strange to me that some are slower than others.
@@JonAdamsTech i swear I remember hearing something about the processor throttling performance based on the battery’s age and health. It’s possible that replacing the battery could make an old iPad feel like it’s been upgraded a generation. Aside from that, there was also a noticeable improvement in performance after doing the factory reset, but still wasn’t as smooth as the same model iPad fresh out of the box.
Bro. I have the mini 5 since day 1. No issues at all. It never lagged or got very hot. Guess what. After the mini 7 came out. It became a hot laggy irritating mess. I can’t open notes anymore cuz it crashes. When I do open a note I have to slowly scroll down to continue where I was before. I can’t flick to scroll anymore in safari.
Left the mini 6 64gb for the 7 256gb and I love it and it’s awesome playing pubg at some of the high settings it doesn’t get hot like the iPad mini 6 would
@ thanks for prompt response. In fact your video was rhetorical reason I sold my iPad Air 4th gen to try iPad mini. Hope your channel grows at lightening pace :)
I have the iPad mini 5 and it is no where close to that slow. Mine runs great and still snappy for everyday things. I use it along with my iPad air 3 and both on iOS 18 running great.
my ipad 8th still getting 6years of update so i dont have to worry about on whether its supported or not i dont care anymore if they drop the support after years the important thing is i can still barely use my ipad for everyday task
I want the latest due to the triple A titles… but I am wondering if we will get a Nintendo switch 2 so I am likely waiting until after the new year. I have an ipad mini 6 256gb so I am not hurting
@ Hmm looking to future proof myself a little so imma get the m4 macbook pro. Cause like my editing needs aren’t that heavy. I just edit gameplay for my youtube, but coding might take up a bit more resources
I'm considering upgrades ATM. Copped a 5 mini with 5g for 90 bucks earlier in the year, but would grab a mini 6 for 250 ish or a new 7 for 400. Options....
I barely noticed it on the 6, jelly scroll just isn’t a thing to be concerned with in my mind. I know people feel super strongly about it but why are these people scrolling with such intensity?!
@ I noticed on both 6 and 7. Slightly less so on the 7. I do go back to previous documents to search for a certain wordings, hence the intensity in scrolling. I just don’t get why it’s not evident on 5 but it does on 6 and 7, no matter the orientation.
Im replying with my ipad mini 5, thanks for the vids , im already convinced and it’s time to upgrade to ipad mini 7 with cellular 256gb for casual usage like watching, reading and browsing thru social media. also just want to test apple intelligence cause i still have my iphone 14 pro max that doesn’t support. Im also thinking of grabbing an apple pencil pro so idk if it’s worth getting it together with ipad mini 7 for a casual user like me.
THIS is the comparison we all needed. I can’t find one reason for my wife to upgrade her iPad mini 6 to the new one. If someone asked me I would tell them to check Apple’s website for a refurbished iPad mini 6.
I had the mini 6 and loved it. I got impatient and traded it in for the air m2. But I missed the mini sized, so I traded the m2 air for the mini 7th gen and I am glad I did. The mini is an awesome tablet that is super portable. I don't really get the hate for the design. The iPad air has had the same design since the air 4 in 2020. The camera moving is the only big change.
What do you think, is the mini 5 worth going to the 6 or just going straight to the 7?
Still need an iPad mini, was hoping the 7 would have been more exciting honestly
Waited and went for the Mini 7 - glad I did. The improvements in performance are noticeable - not earth shattering, but better. This new one should last for several years.
watching this bricked my mini5

I have iPad mini 5 and is not nearly as slow as what you're showing. It's perfectly fine for media consumption in 2024.
I think Apple is hitting me with that forced obsolescence
Just upgraded from the 5 to the 7. With my trade-in, it actually cost me a bit less than my 5. It’s the form factor that works for me - don’t need anything bigger - and really complements my iPhone 13 Mini.
Thanks for the content.
Heck ya that’s definitely the way to do it!
a real mini user. ❤🔥
Interesting, my iPad mini5 no way even close to that slow, I wonder what the difference is..
I don't use it often so i wonder if it's just struggling to keep up because apps weren't preloaded. it was painfully slow haha
My ipad mini 5 slowed down significantly after ios 18. Downgraded to 17 and is much better now.

I actually prefer the bezels in the mini bec of the bezels.holding it when I'm watching, the bezels gives me a better grip
Was the mini 5 a 64gb version? My 256gb mini 5 has some performance issues but nothing like what is shown here.
nah i got a 64gb and mine ain't slow like his, its not been noticeably slow at all. It's not instant... sure, but its certainly not painfully slow.
Yeah I’m not sure, maybe something is wrong with mine that made it worse than others

1:48 - Actually you can also swipe up the same way on the iPad mini 5 and it will do the same thing as the iPad mini 7.
Yeah I realized that after the fact, good catch!

Yeaaaah man forced obsolescence is a real thing and it should 100% be illegal. So lame
Left the mini 6 64gb for the 7 256gb and I love it and it’s awesome playing pubg at some of the high settings it doesn’t get hot like the iPad mini 6 would
Nice! I’ll have to try pubg, haven’t played that game in a long long time
What are your views on battery backup, like screen on time. Has it improved over iPad mini 6th gen
Yeah I’ve noticed better battery life on the 7 for sure
@ thanks for prompt response. In fact your video was rhetorical reason I sold my iPad Air 4th gen to try iPad mini. Hope your channel grows at lightening pace :)
@ hey I appreciate that, glad it was helpful!
I have the iPad mini 5 and it is no where close to that slow. Mine runs great and still snappy for everyday things. I use it along with my iPad air 3 and both on iOS 18 running great.
That’s great!
my ipad 8th still getting 6years of update so i dont have to worry about on whether its supported or not i dont care anymore if they drop the support after years the important thing is i can still barely use my ipad for everyday task
So you don’t have the ability to use your iPad? Sorry the comment was a bit confusing.
I want the latest due to the triple A titles… but I am wondering if we will get a Nintendo switch 2 so I am likely waiting until after the new year. I have an ipad mini 6 256gb so I am not hurting
Yeah not worth it, but man I can’t wait till that switch 2 is finally out! That thing is definitely showing its age haha
Im going to get a mac so i will be putting buying an ipad on hold for now! getting a mac for video editing and coding hehe
Nice! Do you know which one you’re going to get?
@ Hmm looking to future proof myself a little so imma get the m4 macbook pro. Cause like my editing needs aren’t that heavy. I just edit gameplay for my youtube, but coding might take up a bit more resources
I upgraded from mini 5 to mini 7 today!
Nice! What spec and color did you get?
Basic model in blue!
I'm considering upgrades ATM. Copped a 5 mini with 5g for 90 bucks earlier in the year, but would grab a mini 6 for 250 ish or a new 7 for 400. Options....
is it native whatsapp on ipad 5?
Huh?
at the very least, jelly scrolling is still way visible on the 7
I barely noticed it on the 6, jelly scroll just isn’t a thing to be concerned with in my mind. I know people feel super strongly about it but why are these people scrolling with such intensity?!

I just don’t get why it’s not evident on 5 but it does on 6 and 7, no matter the orientation.
@ yeah that would make sense that searching documents you’d notice it a lot

I literally never use the Apple Pencil so I can’t tell you if you should get it but the mini 7 is great!
THIS is the comparison we all needed. I can’t find one reason for my wife to upgrade her iPad mini 6 to the new one. If someone asked me I would tell them to check Apple’s website for a refurbished iPad mini 6.
Yeah I agree, hopefully she will listen to you 🤣🤣

4 in 2020. The camera moving is the only big change.
Nice! What color did you go with on those new iPad minis?
@JonAdamsTech I got the starlight. I was debating on which color, but seeing them in person I liked the starlight the best!
