I agree so strongly. As a tall girl myself, it's a constant struggle to see how (like the actress said) even her BONES feel bigger. I'll have friends assume my clothes size to be smaller than they are and then accidentally appear surprised when it's larger because they didn't take into account how my height affects more than just length, but depth and width to balance out proportions.

@@kirstys6775 The story of Matthew Perry is true. He was mentally too weak to abstain himself from the toxic Hollywood environment of unlimited drinking, partying and buying expensive stuff. Also, concerning David Schwimmer it is true what you say. During the initial beginning of Friends, its huge popularity and success between 1994 and 1996 he already came to honestly admit in interviews he didn't like the amount of attention his working and public life got. He's a very shy and introvert person. Then, it is further true that there were multiple aspects about Ross' character that was very disappointing to him in a career-sense. The producers and the writers had spent so much time on his on- and off-relationship with Rachel and constantly bringing him down with the divorces and break-ups, it didn't give David Schwimmer the opportunity to show the public what he was really made off.

I think it's interesting reading the comments b/c the subject is about Lisa Kudrow talking about her struggles with her own body image compared to other women. Yet, in the comments people feel the need to put down her female costars as not being as attractive as her. I think women do not have to put other women down to build up another woman. It seems a bit counterproductive in my opinion. I guess it can be human nature.

Benedict Cumbersnatched we really don't... Eating disorder rates has never been higher. Whilst there's more body types in the media, most still portray the skinny model as the most desired. Diets and pills has also increased drastically since the 90s and 2000s. Young girls perceptions of themselves has also decreased overtime. With almost 60% of 10-12 year old girls feeling the need to diet or lose a few pounds. As someone that grew up in the 00s and 2010s, body image has been a major battle for me, and literally all my peers. At the end of the day, woman now want a big butt, big breasts but be under 100 pounds ideally. It's no longer just skinny, but curvy skinny which is even worse as it's harder to achieve. The media has increased its influence drastically since the 90s with social media, so Ofc that's had an impact on people's perceptions of themselves.

I love that she was goofy and not made into an object of attraction all of the time, but at the same rate it felt like the subliminal message was that girls who didn't look like petite prom queens could not be elegant, soft, delicate. Yes Phoebe got dressed up a few times but that was just for occasions and it would have been nice for the showrunners to just casually now and then remind us that being goofy and a bit taller and more-Amazon built can still be really eye-catching naturally without occasion.

Lisa stayed relatively down to Earth, whereas Courteney and Jennifer were *hyped* up as these feminist, sexualized objects. The people in the comments who keep saying that they think she is beautiful or pretty, or that they think she is prettier than "the other 2" aren't getting the point. You see, your desire or attraction towards someone doesn't make the culture of fat shaming go away. We should be building a culture in which women don't starve themselves to look a certain way, not becauee there are still men out there who will be attracted to them regardless, but because they themselves no longer feel the pressure to do so and have a sense of self esteem.

@momogirl29 Absolutely agree! No woman should be forced on a diet, whether it be carbs, cigarette, zone or whatever to get into shape. You only need a healthy, balanced diet of breakfast, lunch and dinner, and daily exercise to get you through. Men should focus on the inside of a woman way more than just physical appearance.

When Courteney had her stint on Bear Grylls she came to admit she never thought of herself as being pretty, while Jennifer came to admit in a 2004 interview she still felt like the chubby girl with frizzy hair back when she was a child on the inside. Both actors were allowing the pressure and anxiety from the media and public to affect their self-esteem. I think more or less this is what came at the expense of Jennifer's relationship and marriage with Brad Pitt. I guess this constant obsession with her hair, as in being high-maintenance and too much into her looks, drove Brad Pitt more or less away from her. Hollywood is a harsh world.

Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox were impossibly thin. But I know what it is like to be the taller girl friend and you feel like a big, ol clumsy goof next to your petite friends. It is true that you only get compliments when you're too thin. I used to be anorexic, during the height of Friends, and people actually said, "Oh, you look great! You're thin like Jennifer Aniston." And all that did was reinforce that what I was doing was good and I should keep it up. Now that I'm heavier, I'm healthier. What I do to my body is healthier - what I eat, how I exercise - and yet I get scrutinised. This kind of skinny is rarely healthy, and you can tell when someone is naturally skinny and when they're not. We have to start letting a healthy size be viewed as attractive, and let people be healthy for their own body shape and genetics.

It's amazing to me that Lisa Kudrow shares that feeling of being the taller friend and feeling huge next to the other girls.. I'm quite tall and have wide shoulders, I'm not very skinny or overweight, health wise I feel very comfortable in my body. Actually I do think my figure is quite slim, although my butt seems to be huge (based on how hard it is to find pants that fit).. still I always feel (and always have ever since I can remember) like a "mountain of a woman" as Lisa puts it, when I'm next to most girls.
And it's so annoying that even when you make it not to feel too pressured by media and society to have a certain body type, the clothing industry is still going to put that frustration into you

Her confession of being sick all the time is just so true with eating disorders.
As a young 20 year old I was 6 ft and 135 lbs at my lowest weight. I ate 5 tiny meals daily and worked out strenuously 6 days a week.
It wasn’t until later in life where I realized 30 lbs above that was the lowest I should ever go and that muscle is so important to support your skeletal structure and overall health. Balance really is the key to health.
Mentally you have such a block with what you see on the scale versus how your body is responding. I was always exhausted, got the flu 6 times in one year but I still saw a “fat person” in the mirror. Pics of me from that time are difficult to look at but it’s ultimately self esteem that people have to gain in order to get past these eating disorders. It’s a lot easier than it sounds.

As I watched all 10 seasons of Friends, I could not help but notice how skinny the girls, particularly Jennifer and Lisa were becoming season after season. Courtney was always skinny, but watching Jennifer Aniston look like she was starving by Season 9 and 10 and Lisa Kudrow look way thinner compared to her healthy glowing look in Season 1, did not take a rocket scientist to guess what was going on. I felt the pressure she must have been under while watching her interact with the other girls on the show. @M B Me neither and being relieved about it too. Especially, after seeing how this dieting and obsession with staying in shape didn't come at the expense of Lisa's own personal life. With Courteney Cox and Jennifer Aniston it more or less did. Season five came most shockingly when focusing on Jennifer Aniston and appearing more or less as if she was starving. It's easy to understand that where we might appreciate her curves in the first four seasons or so, that she might have felt not the exact same way about it. Every actor lives inside his / her own bubble. Jennifer Aniston came to admit she always had body issues when she was younger as a child, a teen and young adult.
Not sure whether it was due to the fact that she and Brad Pitt were just in this relationship for about a year, feeling unworthy to his sexiness and thus becoming increasingly obsessed with dieting and staying in shape, or she had different personal problems and demons she had to deal with, including bullying back as a child.

Crazy thing is that if she were born in, like the Netherlands, literally no one would have noticed her height at all. You gorgeous silly woman

It’s so strange to see someone who is so beautiful think that they aren’t

I'm a skinny asian woman and hv this insecurity my whole life. People keep commenting on my weight does not help either. Gosh I hate my life and the people I'm surrounded with. They just break me down instead of lifting me up. I feel stuck and I hate my life.

I can relate in the other specturm i am the only fat girl in both sides of my family they always commented with fake concern and never let me forget it

Wow, your comments really struck me quite deeply. I wish you ladies strength on your journeys. Coming from an extremely judgmental family is excruciating emotionally and mentally. Remember that you are so much more than the picture other people paint of you.

I'm very skinny as well and get comments all the time. It's hard to feel like a real woman, when everybody is now talking about how real women have curves etc...

I have a genetic condition that effects my weight, and even close friends & family always comment on it. Usually their comments are well meaning, but sometimes it still gets to me. One thing that has helped me cope, is instead of trying too hard to be ”body positive ” ( i.e. I love and accept everything about my body), I try to think ”body neutral” thoughts. For example, I try to replace telling myself that I hate what my stomach looks like, to change my thought to say ”that is a human stomach” -- it’s a smaller step from negative though to neutral thought, than trying to flip your thinking 180°.
Maybe it sounds weird, but it has helped me change how I feel about my body. I hope it can help you ladies too.

Okay, I have to say..... even though of course Courtney Cox and Jennifer Aniston are beautiful, my husband and I always have admired how tall, elegant, and gorgeous you (Lisa Kudrow) were and are! You’re gorgeous! So glad you could overcome that and such a great lesson to all of us to realize just because we’re different, isn’t s negative. It means we’re standing out for our uniqueness and beauty. Love you Lisa Kudrow! Thanks for sharing!!!

Hollywood’s unobtainable body images really began during this time...if you compare Jennifer’s figure a few seasons into the show from the beginning, it was totally different. I remember reading the lengths she went through to look like that & being a teenager at the time, I thought I should do the same. Now looking back, she looked so much healthier with curves and I wish society knew how to appreciate natural beauty. I wish I had enjoyed my figure during its peak instead of wishing I could be more disciplined/emaciated to look better. Unfortunately, people are going under the knife now more than ever. Ladies, you are beautiful just as you are. Be healthy, have fun, exercise and love life.

I’m completely stunned that she has felt so, cause I always thought that she is the prettiest girl in Friends. The shape of her face is just perfect, she literally looked like a barbie doll in my opinion.

When I watched Friends, I always thougth why the heck they dress her so bad? Because with my trained eye I could cleraly see through Fibi's clothes that she has a beautiful body, but they always choose unfitting clothes for her. Everything was baggy, long skirts (that don't flatter anybody), long sweaters. They could easily express her personal style without making her look bad. It's like they tried their best to make her ugly! And Lisa apparently didn't understand that the cloting was the problem, not her body. Because she has perfectly beautiful femenine body. And I'm not lying here, she really has beautiful body. I'm so angry at the stylists of the show, they confributed so much to Lisa's suffering, omg...

You look beautiful. To be honest, I'm extraordinarily tall and I grew up in the 90s. It was nice to see a girl like me portrayed positively. I recently rewatched Friends and I have that exact body type as an adult.
