I have suffered from foot cramps. The most fun is when it cramps in the top towards your shin and then when trying to get your foot away from your leg, your foot cramps underneath towards the sole. Oh, the joy.
Your channel is so helpful. I am 73 yrs old and everything is starting to hurt! I appreciate your exercises and help. The leg and foot cramps at night are the worst. Thanks for all the exercises and suggestions!
Will’s exercises are great. I am 72, in generally very good health, and am finding that Feldenkrais movement lessons are gentle, helping me stay supple and move much better, instead of letting stiffness contribute to my ‘age’. With these, I feel younger than ever, and they are so, so helpful! 😊 Will, you might also add some Feldenkrais to your work. They have changed my life, even though I did advanced yoga for over 15 years (I stopped yoga many years ago because it started to cause pain in my L4-5). 😊
i am so glad i discovered your channel! Living in a relatively isolated place with no contact to people my age i am not so sure about what conditions may be normal for elderly people. So i am quite relieved to hear that nightly foot cramps are not uncommon and nothing to worry about much. i"m going to start the before-bed exercise from today. Thank you so much for sharing your precious knowledge. You are an angel!💖
Hi Will, I don't get foot cramps but have just found your channel (and just passed 50) and have been watching your knee videos and other tips - all excellent! So just came to say thank you :)
Great video, as always. I've found that I don't get cramp in my feet when I take magnesium glycinate a while before bed (it's relaxing and can aid sleep). Before I was taking it, I kept getting cramp in my toes at night. I've found that standing as high on tiptoe as I can relieves it, whereas doing the toe flexor stretch while still in bed doesn't work, it comes back as soon as I let them go. I may have to repeat it, than it goes away for the rest of the night. I'm not negating the advice in the video, just saying what works for me when cramp does strike. Obviously it's better to follow the advice here and prevent it from happening in the first place!
I get foot cramps at night when I turn my feet in a different position, I have been taking alkaline powder before I go to bed and also drink magnesium tablets. Thank you so much for your videos they have helped me tremendously
Only recently I started getting slight foot cramping. Thankfully thus far it's never gone into a full cramp. Maybe because as soon as I feel it coming (always the left foot) I immediately start flexing my foot. I just don't want it to go into a full cramp. Feels like it's coming from the ball and arch of my foot.
Your method works. I always had cramp on legs, and feet small muscles too, after night social dancing. These last three days with 1-1.5 minutes of stretching each leg/foot, I did NOT have cramp. Thank you. I will keep doing, and testing ...
Im 41 and have been having unreal cramps in my toes and feet. The pain is unreal. Taking magnesium tablets now. Was wondering how much MGs is good to take? Thanks for sharing these tips and exercises. Been suffering for years with these cramps.
@@HT-Physio My pleasure. I have been subscribed for a while and find your channel extremely informative and helpful and your delivery is excellent. Thank you.
This was very helpful. I have just recently started having severe foot and toe cramps at night and couldn't figure out why or what to do to stop the cramp. So it sounds like I need to up my electrolytes and do so e of these exercises. Thank you so much.
ORS -oral rehydration solution, really works to reduce cramps. I drink a beer mug full of water...in the evening...with ORS mixed in.. especially the days I have sweated a lot . Makes a significant difference to night cramps..legs feet and hands
I am 50+10 and ever since I down 2 glasses of water before retiring the cramps have stopped accosting me at night. It even seems to work if I forget to drink enough throughout the day. Magfos used to work as did Mg oil but they are no longer effective. Lack of salt is not an issue as my diet is meat, salt, water and animal fats. Will be adding in these exercises.
I would get Horrible leg & foot cramps. I started taking 2 Multivitamins w/minerals, Vitamin D w/ k2 & B12 5000mg. I take this combo at least 3 hrs before bedtime. It has really helped. I tried Magnesium malate but it didn't help. If for some reason I still get foot cramps. I take 2-3 Heaping tablespoons of Prepared Mustard. It really helps. Mustard has Magnesium in it. { mustard the condiment kind}.
Ahhh I've been doing the 'before u walk' exercises... Now i can use same b4 bed - I do appreciate when u redo an exercise & explain that those same exercises help in other circumstances... Magnesium foot rub(thanks for this tip) might help more than my usual E45 - so I've ordered this. nb I agree with ur theory re:salt(wen my consultant was fitting my pacemaker I overheard him say my 'heart was v healthy' - which confused me - his later explanation was the electrics were dodgy but the pump was small n in great shape) = prescribed salt/regular cups of coffee to keep the electrics kicking... on heartwork recovery ward there was NO getting salt from any of the nurses... we do 'take things to the extreme' in trying to do our best - our poor bodies :))
Many thanks for these tips. I cope with the foot cramps, but I’ve experienced agonising cramp in my upper thigh, from groin to knees. It was SO bad I actually 🤢 🤮! I was totally doubled up and unable walk, but managed to crawl to where my hairdryer was plugged in and focussing heat on the cramping thigh eventually released the muscles. The whole episode lasted for several hours and the area was still incredibly sore the following day. Fortunately, I’ve only had two of these incredibly painful attacks and do everything possible to prevent another one! Every night, I spray my thighs with 'Magnesium Oil' as well as doing some calf stretching. Can you recommend anything specifically for the thigh area? Many thanks.
I'm so sorry to hear about your thigh cramp attacks, they sound incredibly painful! I have the following video on leg cramps at night which may be of interest! ua-cam.com/video/elKNYiu24Jw/v-deo.html
It's not just FOOT cramps, it's also LEG cramps, and the bigger the muscle, the bigger the pain. Mine seem to be caused by blood sugar problems and magnesium deficit: magnesium citrate and glycinate help me (700-1100 mg). As well as low carb diet. I once saw the comment of a man, whose cramps were gone after he stopped eating sugar.
Great suggestions. I have had foot cramps but mainly when I go to bed. I found some relief from a product called Theraworx. Bought it at Walmart. Its a foam from a can and the main ingredient is magnesium sulfate. Comes out like whipping cream. I rub it on my feet before bed time. I will try your suggestions for stretching. Thanks.
Thank you for your support I hope you find it interesting! I'm glad I'm still able to reach people around the world even if I'm not able to see them in person

Will, I have been walking five to ten miles daily for the past 30 years. This exercise has not stopped me from gaining 70 pounds (believe it or not, sad but true). About 25 pounds ago I noticed foot pain that has been increasing as I gain weight. Do you think a trip to the podiatrist and instep supports would help? I realize I need to lose weight but I am also menopausal and am not hopeful about that. Also, can you tell us how to select a walking shoe? My toes are crushed and stiff even though I have a inches of space between the end of my toes and the end of the shoe. Thanks so much for considering these questions?
I use a ball under my foot, but found it kept shooting out and away over the floor lol😂So now I put the ball in the end of a sock, and hold down the other end of the sock with my other foot.
Get your own bed 🛌, there'll be no need to kick your bedmate to 1) Stop snoring 2) Taking your pillow - my past situation 3) Hogging the sheets and space, Happy Easter 🐣🐥🐤👯!
Hi Do you have the links for the ball (Amazon)the Electrolyte tablets and Magnesium Rub (although I can see CBD 300mg in your Vid).. I do like recommendations 🙂
What to do to relieve restless leg and now the feet as well? Presently, I take Mirapex and if still restless foot, I must get up and wall for 10 to 15 minutes.
What happens is my hallux flexes before sleeping, and then I definitely can't sleep. Sometimes it cramps in the arch on the same schedule. I'm very flexible and always watch the electrolytes in my diet. 😢 Seems hopeless.
What to do when I have fibromyalgia and l4l5 l5s1 disc bludge how to differentiate the pain that wheather the pain is because of disc bludge or fibromyalgia please tell
Hi Will I suffer from foot cramps every night but I also suffer from cramps in my quads and inner thigh. Do you have ant advice please. I have tried the magnesium rub and I also take oral magnesium daily. I am waiting to see a physio but I would appreciate any advice you could give me.

I use my Pilates roller at the bottom of my bed between the sheet and blankets to keep the weight of the covers off my feet. It has really helped!
That's a great tip!
Great idea!! Thx
Thanks so much. Oral magnesium has ended my muscle cramps, but the magnesium rub sounds wonderful!

Yes, I get those, most often though when driving. It's not an enjoyable experience...
Definitely - driving can be very tricky as there is little opportunity to stretch and vary the movement/position whilst we are stuck in the vehicle!

Cramps are the worst. My toes just go haywire and the pain is off the scale.
They can definitely be incredibly painful and uncomfortable for people - they're not something that's nice to deal with!
What about potassium, bananas, and the like?
Bananas really don't have that much potassium. They do have a lot of sugar. You're much better off eating avocados 😊
@@lisah5784 Thanks. But avocados are hard to grow, or easily come by in the mountains. I guess potassium supplements? Cheers.
@@alexrodgers9247 Probably 😉 Sorry I wasn't thinking of where you lived. In the United States you can buy avocados at any store on any corner 😃
Potassium and Bananas sounds like a Tarantino scene.
Potatoes and sweet potatoes are a good source of potassium, I believe.
