The one guy in the audience cracking up constantly and having the time of his life 😂
Hahaha that’s a good one.
THe guy was high…. so any and everything was funny to him.
it's part of the gag-reel
@@rleon8183 no way he was already really fun to watch
Probably the cameraman 😀
Okay, I gotta admit, the 'Stare Fry' joke genuinely made me smile.
Make me burst my rice
My favorite from a much later episode is when he had an audience member helping and she kept paying more attention to him than the pan. 'It's called "stir fry", not "sit there fry"!'
@@Halinspark which episode,tell us please?
I grew up watching Yan on TV. I'm so glad his classic shows are now on UA-cam
Loved this guy when I was a kid!
me to
Same!!!!
Same
Same
I am 50 years old, and Martin Yan was one of my inspirations to become a chef!!! The others being Alton Brown and Jack Tripper(John Ritter)!!!
Jack Tripper's a good one. Was it the coq au vin episode lol?
Jack's Bistro forever 💘
Jack's bistro. 👨🍳
Love Alton
That's so spicy. It's like my grandma used to make 😉👂
This guy was popular before there was even a food network..
💯
Yup. I grew up watching as a kid. I tuned in every day.
Don't forget Justin Wilson and The Frugal Chef.
Thank goodness for PBS.
Public broadcasting had some truly excellent chefs. people would tune in with a coat hanger jammed into the antennae lugs
I was 21 and had just had my son, I was a very lonely depressed stay at home young inexperienced mother and I remember I would have my local Pbs Channel on all the time just to have something on in the background. I don't cook but I found something soothing and comforting having this show on with me and my new born.
So underrated and often overlooked the gems and treasures of public broadcasting shows and what they offer.
IF YAN CAN COOK SO CAN YOU!!
This man is a cooking legend. So much charisma.
I grew up watching this on public tv at grandparents house
dont forget steven Yan was first .... yes his DAD ... martin yan took after his dad left ... wok with yan was where they started
His father coined that phrase
@@AndrewsArchives yup Steven yan from wok with yan is where it started ... he was the first ... they filmed for 6 months in Ottawa at carleton productions and I spent a lot of time at the filmings looking on and yes martin was there often as well ...
@@kaboom-zf2bl I thought Steven and Martin weren't related?
I remember watching Martin Yan on PBS when I was a young girl. I also remember having a crush on him and I still crush on him now! Great sense of humor, educated, beautiful smile, and a fantastic cook! I still watch his cooking tutorials and have recreated some of his great recipes. 😊
All these long-time fans of Martin Yan, and I'm only just "meeting" him.. thank you UA-cam!
Watched Martin Yan and Jacque Pepin as a kid.
They inspired me to be a --... just kidding. I'm not a chef. I simply enjoyed watching all their stuff. It was soothing in a way.
HOWEVER, 20 years later, I am back here as a 32 year old man who is finally trying to learn how to cook more than eggs and ramen.
I remember watching this guy in the 90s when I was in highschool. I forgot all about this show. Am glad UA-cam brought it back. This guy's a legend. 👍
I loved Yan! I watched him in the 90s too in England, when I was in my early 70s..... I guess I'm not long for this Earth now, but I'll always be happy to remember him chopping up things whilst saying "One, two, three, four, five, six, seven..." or "If Yan can cook - so can you!"
@@DaleHodgkins0nyou must be 100 years young now!
I got to see Martin Yan in person some years back. He is just as fast, cooking skills and well as verbal. It was great to watch him in action. And we got to taste his creation!!
Wow! What a gift to see him in person! 👍🏻
Martin Yan was my major inspiration to learn to cook. I was up at 5 am Saturday mornings to catch this show and cook along with him.
Wow they shoved him in the 5am slot? That just seems very wrong...
@@brutusvonmanhammer Very early too, here in Australia, he would be shown around 4pm every Sunday
My dad used to watch Yan Can cook all the time when I was in my late teens. Always raved about how funny he was. Often we would watch together and just be in fits of laughter. My dad passed away 20 years ago. When I recently found out Yan was still going I was like "wow, I wish I could tell dad"
Good to see Yan still going. It makes me remember better times.
Martin Yan is worth a huge reputation as a Chinese chef in the world. He demonstrates knife skills on the screen beautifully, which is always eye-catching.
This guy was a blast to watch. Very funny and charismatic. Laughed and smiled the whole video
Grew up watching him with my mom , he is hands down the most sincere hilarious cooks out there . Miss his show ! I always get a kick out of it when he says "look at this " and when he chops without looking with a huge smile lol
In the world tree of Chefs, Master Yan is at the top, setting the path for all modern day chefs.
He is the Bruce Lee of cooking.
I would watch this show as a kid. This guy was one of the people that got me into cooking
totally!
UA-cam finally decided to put this in my feed, and I am so grateful. Love this guys energy. You can’t help but smile and learn at the same time.
Glad you found us!
I use to LOVE this show! Back when cooking shows taught you how to cook.
Big blast from a distant past
Absolute Legend. I remember spending my Sundays watching him on PBS, such an Awesome guy with amazing skills and funny.
Should I call the Ghostbusters?
Sunday on PBS. Julia Child, "The Frugal Gourmet" Jeff Smith and Mattin Yan. They were the three Chefs that inspired me as a child to learn Culinary Arts.
Martin..not Mattin. Auto correct sucks
I never saw a chef I didn't love on PBS
Who's here after Uncle Roger review of this OG cook?
Martin Yan is amazing, I watched him on PBS every day. He takes you on trips and teaches you more than just cooking.
I had just moved to the US for college in 1990 and I remember watching him on PBS all the time - no anger, no aggression, no cheap "super chef" vulgarity, abuse, or expletives great guy! 😄👍
I miss this show so much! Mr. Yan was so full of fun energy and was genuinely funny. Plus all the history of food he shared was very interesting to me as a kid who loved cooking. Martin Yen, Julia Child, and Alton Brown are the reasons I fell in love with the joy of cooking. They all were entertaining, fun and knew the history of the food they were making.
I wish more cooking series were as lively as this nowadays.
I’m 33 and grew up watching these and it’s what made me the amateur house chef I am today
i remember watching Martin growing up. I always loved his personality and cooking
“Don’t just stand there and look at your beef”…. Words to live by.
One of the best most entertaining chefs ever.
Miss seeing him on tv. Love this guy. Definitely one of a kind.
Hello from Uncle Roger😂
I miss Yan so much I watched him after school every day, no fail .. Wholesome entertainment! It's too bad he's not on anymore, he was my true instructor for cooking in life .. 💜
I had the pleasure of being picked by him to work with him at a demonstration in my hometown. Very nice man and I love his cookbook.
Thank you, algorithm! My mom and I watched Yan’s show every week, he is such a fun and engaging person.
And of course we were always impressed with his quick chopping
I watched this live more than a decade ago. I love Yan. Glad to see this again.
My Grandma used to watch Yan Can Cook all the time when I was little. It’s still one of the first cooking shows I remember.
Haven’t seen an episode of this in years! I always liked Martin Yan. He’s fun to watch and I always thought he seemed like a nice guy.
I haven't seen Yan in twenty in years but he's great and funny. His techniques are actually useful now that I cook extensively for myself and family. Stare fry!
This guy is the Bob Ross of Chinese cooking
This is my first time watching Yan and it's very apparent that he has a huge love and respect for food. I like this guy.
Loved watching Martin on TV when I was younger, still love revisiting his episodes on UA-cam today.
I’m 38. My mom n dad loved Yan’s show so much. So cool to see this in my feed.
Did anyone see the episodes with the lady that was helping him? He would tease her and she was shy, but she started to make comments putting Martin in his place - his reactions were wonderful. My childhood was better with Martin Yan
this fantastic young Martin Yan taught 11yr old me how to cook Chinese Cuisine that I prepare to this day as an over 40 dude. I hold a great amount of gratitude for him & his craft and hope that he’s enjoying his senior years as much as I feel he deserves…which is an immense amount
Yan Can Cook, Galloping Gourmet and the Great Justin Wilson 3 of the BEST at what they do.
I've watched him do a live demo once, and the entire store smelled incredible!
I love watching Martin Yan. He's my favorite
Yan can cook haha, about 40 yrs ago when I was like 12 yrs old I use to love watching this guy.Not sure why, but it was cool to see this again.
I grew up watching Martin yan can cook. I always loved his enthusiasm and fun energy he had so memorable
I use to watch this with my grandparents growing up. Brings back memories. I love cooking
I love watching him. He is such a great teacher and has such good advice. Especially for people afraid to cook.
He is a piece of why I love cooking as a kid and his chopping skills are rhythmic and swift. I'm happy to see this!
I loved this guy! I was too young too cook but his presence captured me. He was quick with a knife and always kept me smiling. I wish I could watch his shows again now that I’m older.
Grand Uncle Martin taught Uncle Roger everything he knows, and still has some secrets in his back pocket…
The belief is that' one has to have a secret left.
Just a tip when Yan says "cooking oil" He is referring to Vegetable or peanut oil..Do not use Olive oil!
I absolutely loved this guy when i was young, he was my favourite chef, feeling quite low at the moment so finding him now has put a smile on my face.
Thanks to seeing this as a kid I've been able to modify alot of these classic stir fries to western pan cooking. Good memories!!
Still one of the best chef out there... always watch him in channel 6 when I was little coming home early to watch him cook and it was more amazing then the kids show
Best TV chef ever! Very entertaining and I’ve never seen a dish he cooked that I didn’t like. YUMMY 😋
I remember watching his TV programs when I was in college. He is entertaining --- informative and hilarious at the same time. Legend.
I used to watch this man when I would stay home from school sick. He was always one of my favorites. I grew up with PBS and my daughter has too. I don't really appreciate what they've turned into. But I highly recommend, if you are going to allow your young children to spend time in front of the TV, to put on shows like this. It's because of shows like this that I love to cook and learn.
I remember watching him back in the late 1970s and 1980s as Wok with Yan here in canada. Now I watch his son. Lots of love from Canada 🇨🇦
This makes me think of my Dad......growing up in the 80's, this was a Sunday staple with pop's. Great show then, even better now!
Of all the cooking shows ive watched over the years countless hours how have I never come across this legend!
For the past 20 years my brother and I will say
"Look at this!"
If we're in a kitchen together.
"Rook at dat"
I'm 47 years old. This is the guy that inspired me to be a chef and to create beautiful food for my family and my loved ones every single day
I met Martin at a home show. He was personable and quite friendly with lots of personality. I always enjoy watching him on TV or video.
I grew up watching this guy! Wow, what a trip down memory lane. I love it! "If Yan Can Cook, so can you!" :D
Dude I loved this guy as a kid
So much memories
We love you Yan, you are a living legend!
One of my childhood heros. A very nice and humble man. Met him in Pleasant Hill years back when he had a restaurant there.
I used to love this show as a kid.
I remember watching Yan can cook when I was a kid in the 90s. Those were the days.
The "stare fry" joke was hilarious and I loved his expression when he was staring at his wok. 😳😂
He thought me how to cook before UA-cam existed. I loved his approns with plays on the word wok. Wok and roll, wok the heck, woks up doc...
martin was my inspiration to cook as a kid!! i remember even him having a restaurant in the bay area and i wanted to go sooo bad!! but now as a chef i miss watching him in the mornings on pbs!! but thank you chef for inspiring me to follow my nose and dreams!!
I grew up watching Yan Can Cook (and all the other 80's cooking shows) with my mom. I was cooking before i was even tall enough to reach the stove without a stepping stool. I knew that Chinese tradition forbids knives at the table because they are a weapon, but I never heard that about metal chopsticks. I use my metal chopsticks all the time! They feel better than wood or plastic in my hand.
I never knew that about Chinese tradition, but that makes sense.
I discovered Yan Can cook on Christmas Eve back when I was in high school. I was up late and flipping through the channels and I believe he was on PBS. Randomly popped in to my head the other day. What a nice treat to find episodes on YT!
All time fave epie. Cheers Chef!
" If you wanna smoke your hair " I love watching Martin Yan.✌❤
I forgot how good this show was growing up in the Bar Area. I used to watch this as a kid with and without my mom.
I used to watch Yan Can Cook! I enjoyed watching him cook back then and still enjoy it till this day.
Martin Yan is my spirit animal 😁
Martin Yan was always my favorite!!!
can't tell you how many times i watched him back in late 80's ... excellent cook!
LOVED this show (and others) from KQED back in my teens in the late 70s/early 80s
This man is a legend. I remember watching him and Wok with Yan as a kid with my dad and just chuckling!
I really miss watching these back in the day as a kid one my fav TV chefs
Omg my forever favorite chef!!! I cant forget how entertaining was it to cook watching wok with yan
I forgot how wonderful Mr Yang is with his cooking....simply delicious😊👍🏿
Martin Yan was my inspiration to start cooking. I got really got into cooking Asian food because of him. I work in restaurants and have been for 25 years. The only thing that keeps me going in kitchens is... IF YAN CAN CCOK SO CAN YOU!!!!
When being a culinarian was fun before the shock value started and the new food network with its game shows etc i used to like it when i done it
The best …love his humor and passion ! G.O.A.T. 🐐
We need more shows like this nowadays!

What a fun way to learn how to cook. Truly enjoy watching.
