My headcanon is that Koopa Kid isn't Bowser's child, but a clone of Bowser Because he never called Bowser 'Dad' and he never called KK 'Son', they were basically clones that Bowser had made to fill the void of having kids, and also to train as an underling/successor But after off-screen events, the Koopa Kids were destroyed. Then Bowser was able to have Bowser Jr, so he never had the need to remake the Koopa Kids
Maybe he’s just somehow a clone of Baby Bowser? This *could* be supported by the fact that in the DS and 3DS entries of the Yoshi’s Island games, Grown-Up Bowser travels right through time

I always loved the fact that three of them appeared in Mario Party 5, and in different colors. Okay, yes, they may have appeared as cameos on the covers of the original games in TT100 and Superstars, But it's not the same without them. I don't know, I just felt like they gave the game more humor. I don't think swapping them for Bowser Jr was a good idea. Despite seeing them on the game covers in TT100 and Superstars, it's safe to say that Koopa Kid RIP 1998-2005. Let's remember: with this year, it will be 20 years since we last saw them as important characters.

I have a theory on Koopa Kid, just like the Koopalings they aren't Bower's kids, they're merely minions or "underLINGS" hence the last part of their title of koopalings, the creators of Mario Party never though to add all of the Koopalings from the previous Mario Games due to there being so many with many designs along with not knowing how to implement them into a 3d environment since they only appeared in NES and SNES games so they just went with their own spin on the koopaling by just making "Koopa Kid". This is why there are more than just one Koopa Kid in the series and they come in many colors in Mario Party 5. Koopa Kids = Koopalings.

Koopa Kids are imperfect Bowser clones (that's why there are some that are different colors). Bowser Jr. is actually baby Bowser from a different timeline.
