I can't swear to the instrument she's playing in the video, but on her recordings she plays bowlback mandolins made by Alfred Woll and uses Thomastik strings with a Hannabach E string. Before ordering an instrument from Herr Woll, you might want to look for a used bowlback on Reverb or Mandolin Cafe. His start at over 4,000 euros.
I use a fender medium guitar pick, works just fine, someone told me to use a " blue chip pick" i looked at them on a website and they wanted $35.00 for a pick ( oh HELL no !) guitar picks are the way to go.
A great substitute for a Bluechip (especially the CT 55) is the triangle Dunlop primetone 1.4 smooth (not gripped), I own both and I actually prefer the Dunlop because it doesn't feel sticky! Also they are like $10 for three of them!
I lashed out on a Bluechip and then misplaced it. I went to my local music store and bought one of pretty much everything, but nothing came close to the Bluechip. Luckily someone found it. They ARE worth the money.
@@richard7071 From what everyone is saying I guess I'm going to have to try one, I did upgrade to a fender 351 heavy pick and have had great results, but it's time to get the real deal, thanks 👍.
@@congerscott6064 the good news is that, despite my experience, you are way less likely to lose an expensive pick. Bluechip will engrave your pick for a small fee. I used to lose guitar picks like Tupperware lids.

Frank Wakefield Lesson Paddy On The Turnpike. ua-cam.com/video/6zUabBPBfuo/v-deo.html There are a few UNUSED mandolin lessons I had intended for DVD #4. Maybe I should put one or two up on my UA-cam channel jmoss99 as I will never finish that DVD #4 at this point. I am thinking Paddy On The Turn Pike. I don't remember why we left it off the earlier DVDs. I don't have to go back to the master tapes for that one. It is right here on my computer. Frank was youthful in these 2003 videos. It was 4 years before his bypass surgery.
Nice tips. You seem to be a sweet and mild person as well. Now I play guitar, but a lot of this is applicable to that as well. I've fought with my right hand for years, haha.
Watch Bill Monroe play a mandolin.rj..he invented it..you gots to lay down some old Kentucky 2.step.blue grass.music..let me here some soldier joy.stuff..rj..and get a gibson.r
Bill Monroe is considered to be the 'father' of Bluegrass (not the mandolin). Classical mandolin requires a much more refined picking technique than does less formal styles such as Celtic, Bluegrass and folk.
Yeah the way that she says not to hold it is the way chris thile says to hold it so....yeah. she's a great classical musician but that's not the way to hold it if you want to shred.
@@alasdairmacintyre9383 Different schools I guess. There's a guitarist called Claus Levin who held the pick with more of a closed fist but is now using a more open grip. He shreds like noone else. Not that I'm so fond of shredding for the sake of it.
Grazie Caterina. Il plettro bianco che utilizzi di quale marca è? Thanks a lot Caterina! what kind of pick is the white one? Which brand?
I like the fact that this mandolin has a zero fret. Great advise on holding the pick too!
Thank you! such a lovely intuitive way of teaching.

What picks are recommended for an Octave Mandolin?
I like that you say 'tum' and 'pointy finger'.
Thank you Caterina. Great advice!
What's the exact spelling this picks?viol?
wolle
@@lanxcya thank you so much for your kind reply !... Regards from India!🙏❤️
Hahah I was watching this video for the first time and saw your question posted like few minutes ago
Thank you very much , dear Catherina .Your advice is a really great help for me .🤗🌻
Hold the plectrum like a wee bird. Not too tight which would choke it nor too loose or it will fly away.
What is the thickness of black pick
In mm
Can someone tell me what type of mandolin she's playing and where to buy it?
I would like to know too

She gives more details on her Mandolin in this video: ua-cam.com/video/0lAQ1P48oqI/v-deo.html
Thank you for the helpful tips!
Excellent. Thank you!
Я остановил свой выбор на trekel, а струны thomastik.
I like the bright sound, but I use a medium pick and also use a Ranier style pick made from horn. Just don't use this pick for your nose!

Invaluable
Woaw great
Very different from how Americans teach pick position. I think your method is better for controlling how the notes sound.
wow her shirt is so rumpled like she picked it up off the floor
Good God God gef
The white pick is the worst thing ever! It's too thick and not flexible enough for playing an exact tremolo or very fast.
Chacun à son goût!

Bull shit, the mandolin been around hundreds of years before Bill Monroe was born...
He absolutely did not invent the mandolin.

Randy dont be a dumbass hick. I love bluegrass too but have appreciation for classical music please too and dont be a dumbass
This lady doesn't know how to hold a pick. I wouldn't listen to her.
