I'm kind of new to watercolour and had never considered using acrylic ink with them! I absolutely love this. I agree, Denise Love is fantastic! Thank you for the inspiration! I am loving your channel!

This was a lovely video! I've never heard of this type of watercolor paint before until I saw your post on IG, but it's absolutely beautiful especially for abstracts. And congratulations on your UA-cam channel!! That's so exciting 🎉

That’s sooo funny! I literally just commented on one of your shorts, not having seen this video yet, and said how your beautiful pieces were giving Denise Love, Allison Dawrant and Bettina watercolor vibes!!!! I want to take her classes too!

I love them. They are big pans and so gouachy I use them all the time and ignore the fancy watercolours!

I used these almost exclusively for a while and then I missed my traditional watercolours so now I split my time evenly 😂

They are soo colourful, right??! Super vibrant and fun. Oh no they do get addictive don’t they. I may or may not have just bought the granulating colours 🫣😂

The plastic top is brilliant when you have cats who like stepping on wet paints!

Haha! I didn’t think of that! I have 2 very uninterested old dogs so they don’t go anywhere near my paints. My mums puppy on the other hand… 🙈

These seem too opaque for my use, plus I try to use brands that are cruelty free if I can - but the palette itself is so beautiful, love the big pans too!

    • @Little_Ammy_Arts

They are very opaque! I definitely split my time evenly between these and my normal watercolours as I enjoy both!
When you say cruelty free, can you tell me more? I tried to do some research into the make up of these paints and I got so much conflicting info and people still give me conflicting info now on whether they still use animal products or not 😅
And yes, the big pans are one of my favourite things about them!

@ Gansai paints are traditionally made with animal glue. You will find conflicting into on Kuretake, some sources saying they use it, some saying they do not. Until the company can say for sure, I stick to the brands I know are cruelty free, like Daniel Smith. I use enough things that are not cruelty free that I have not been able to find replacements for, so when I can switch, I do. Every little bit helps.

I agree. And I love The Daniel Smith watercolours so that’s good to know ☺️

Kuratake stopped using animal products in most of their colours years ago.
Their website has more information on which clours aren't vegan friendly. They even have info on their English language site these last couple of years, so you don't have to use translation software anymore.
Other gansai tambi style paints usually still use traditional binders.

Thank you so much for the information!
Very helpful because I was finding a lot of conflicting information.

@Little_Ammy_Arts i think a lot of people got confused between the traditional gansai tambi paint and the kuratake version. It sort of spiraled from there.
I find it helps to go to the source. On their website, kuratake seems proud of their recipe and how the binder doesn't use animal products (although some of the specialty colours may use nonvegan pigments). It's one of the big things that sets them apart from all the other makers of gansai tambi paints.

yes, they are beautiful colors, but I think there's a real problem of lightfastness.

    • @Little_Ammy_Arts
      @Little_Ammy_Arts  2 місяці тому

Yes I should imagine there is a lightfastness issue. The more I learn about art materials and pigments the more I worry about these. I will be conducting my own test throughout next year to see what happens!
