    Hey man, been watching you a long time and I am a long time stainless welder. I know you made a comment about the weld color but a lot of people don't know what that is. Like sugar on the back side, a black top indicates chromium evaporation. This means that the weld surface loses some of its corrosion resistance. The best way to fix this is to get a gas shroud that follows behind your cup to continue shielding the weld, you can also try a pulse setup. This is not a dis, just trying to pass some knowledge. Learning how titanium is welded can teach you a lot about stainless.

      Or he could just turn his flow meter up a little so he has more gas flowing out. That's what I do normally, sometimes you gotta turn the amps down, too.

    I've been 6G cert and mainly worked in food processing plants. Your weld color is good. I like your idea for holding your gas when purging.

    hello, great looking welds ! Did a simular job a few years back, but we used electrodes instead of tig. No need for purge then.

    actually, as someone who does exactly this + qc and r&d you look totally within spec for any aws or asme stainless gtaw schedule which every ewf and iso schedule or callout is based on. but nobody ever knows 100% so thats why we have ct and xray!

    Hey brother- just a comment to help out from the Los Angeles area. Look into purchasing some Mathey Dearman universal chain clamps with stainless screws for work like this as they will help ou immensely. They will fix any out of round you have on stainless at least up to schedule 40 and you can fit up very easy with them by yourself, big big help in this situation!!
    God Bless you , I love all your content!!

    is it allowed to "grind" the cap for a more flush surface? i mean welding if done got got a big notch-effect. and polish/grinded welds are stronger.

    If you want super clean always clean up inch outside and inch inside your pipe with a blue wheel and wipe your fitting with acetone including you filler wire... Give it a try and purge off a separate bottle to stop fluxulation...

    I woudnt worry about the color of your work. I’ve seen guys on have their welds look like a peice of art with all the color but ive heard plenty older guys say that doesn’t define if it’s a good weld or not so the color doesn’t matter

    • @kf8575
      @kf8575 10 місяців тому

      Within reason.
      It's not the colour, its the heat input. Ie amps, voltage, travel speed. Heat input too high, then chromium in the alloy oxidises as the gas sheild moves along and reduces the material's properties

    I feel ya, Im more judgmental of my own work than others and there's been times were I've started my part build and the parts are gapped to much the fitments the best that the fitter can do so your taking each little portion of the welding and making it all work then you finish and step back and ehh WTF in not a horrible welder lol. Sometimes you get what you get and you do what you can.

    The water flowing in the pipes don’t care what the welds look like.
    More talent in a person who can do multiple aspects of a trade vs people who have done the same 1 thing for years and criticise others for not “Insta perfect” like they claim to be.

      @@jonwoody3572 i dont have to be titanium to be critical. I dont want to pay full price for pipe that cracks after 2 years. Say you have vibrations in the pipe Line you want full penetration.

    the color is fine but realistically you are burning some of the Chromium out of the stainless honestly you are probably like 1 - 5 amps too hot on your foot for the speed your moving in video.......Chromium is the part that makes stainless resistant to rust but it really doesnt matter 99% of everyone will find out 100+ years in the future..... btw if i remember corrrectly you will get a better root if you dont pulse..... pulse sucks the root back in

  • @matzesge
    @matzesge 10 місяців тому

    I don´t know whats your problem....this is for a pipewelder one of the easiest job....you can twist the pipe....there is enough gap i don´t know why you are burning the material in this way....i´am also an pipewelder but i don´t understand the problem. This great diameter is much more easy to weld than a 14mm pipe.
