Thank you for the perfect video! I've spent days trying to find out simple information, like exactly how to deadhead these, and nobody has a video on that. All the videos are about loping them back to make them smaller. Your video is filled with excellent information! Thanks again!
Love the video, great job! I spend an hour or so a couple days a week in the spring just deadheading and pruning my rhodys and it creates the most beautiful landscape plants.
Very helpful video! I knew my Rhododendron needed pruning but was a bit worried I'd ruin it if I did. I feel much more confident after watching this video and will look for the little bud "bumps" on the branches. Thanks!
Great video. Really clarifies the pruning process. Thanks for putting it on YT. Greetings from the west coast of Canada where Rhodies grow in abundance!
Just what I've been looking for. Thanks for these tips on pruning. I had heard that pruning a rhodie was a no no! But we have some right in the front of our building complex that just too big where they are. This will help to contain them.
thank you for that, I brought my first rhodies a month ago in bloom and planted them, flowers died off recent, and didn,t know what to do,? now I do, thank you again, graham across the pond in england xx
You make me envious .. I love Rhododendrons. I live in the Netherlands and have had a tough time growing them .. they DO grow now, but only on the shady side of the garden ..
Very helpful information, thank you! My rhodies are getting a little tall and long, small leaf evergreens. I've been afraid of how to prune because I didn't want to kill the plants but this is very helpful!
Thank you, you’re the only video I could find for the small leaf rhodies I think they’re PJM? Mine are just starting to bloom but they are leggy and have some sun scorch from last summer. Will wait till after bloom to cut them for new growth.
Like your splint. I'm an aging gardening fanatic with finger and wtist issues. Is that an over the counter splint I might be able to find sonewhere? Thanks
Is crusty bark a pathogen, nutritive problem or normal? I have some sort of fungus on the leaves - a light beige coloured gunk wipes off the underside. there are tiny black fruiting bodies barely visible except under a 10X loupe. Most obviously dark red circles on the leaves progressing to solid brown leaf necrosis.
I got a Hoilden rhododendron at Lowe's and it won't bloom.. It just sits there like a bump on a log. The leaves are nice and healthy but I want flowers. Would you have any idea why? It only gets afternoon sun.
Many thanks as much of the advice from elsewhere was over conservative. I never could see the buds before (on a rhododendron I now know is a lepidote).
@Cloud Mtn. Farm Ctr. Demonstrator: Helpful tips for pruning and pinching, But your classification of rhodies is Incorrect in that you label the large leaved rhodies as "lepidote" and the smaller leaved rhodies as "elepidote". The truth is just the reverse with the large leaved ones being "elepidotes" and the smaller leaved (scales on undersides) being "lepidote" rhodies.

This is the best video on pruning these plants that I've found on the net. Thankyou

Thanks for the specific pruning tips for the lepidote rhodies. Hope I can find some bumps on my leggy plants.

I’m new to caring for Rhodys and wasn’t sure how to cut them back once the blooms were spent so thanks for the video. 👍

Thank you so much for this video. My parents have let their rhodies grow wild for over 20 years so I really needed some advice.

Great job on this one. These are one of my favorites. A little pruning goes a long way 👍🏼
I know this is an older video, but what great information! Thank you for posting.

COOOOL. best video on deadheading rhodys I’ve seen!!!
thank you thank you thank youuu ☺️🌱

Learned a lot. Thanks for info. Just started adding rhodies to my shade garden.
Great info - but you keep saying to prune"this time of year" but don't say what time of year it is! Spring, summer, fall???
Right after the rhododendron bloom finishes is the perfect timing.
question. why just take off the single shoots? What happens if you take the double shoot?
Thank you for the video.

I like how you call them rhody.
Thank you for the lesson. Now, would it be possible to use orange peelings in mulching them?
Very nice and very informative. Thank you.
Will these pruning techniques work with a Pieris? I have one that has lost some interior leaves that I want to give a rejuvenation pruning.

Thank for the information! I just moved to my new ome that has 20 year old Rhodies that are out of control!
+missvpvp I only wish MY rhododendrons were out of control!! I love them sooooo much.
Thank you so much!very usefull and specific information
Wow very beautiful ❤❤❤❤
after a bunch of viewing, found this video to be the most helpful, thanks
Lepidote and elepidote terms are reversed in this video. Big leaf = elipidote, small leaf (scaled) = lepidote.

any info for a small leaf Rhododendrons? will they only flower once?
Beautiful flower
Awesome instruction! Thank you!
