This is my all time favorite Don Knotts film, and it is a perfect showcase for his style of comedic acting. But it isn't just Don that makes it a gem, as you point out, it is the ensemble of great character players, and near perfect casting, that really make it shine. There is a quaintness and understated quality to the movie that really makes it work, too. They don't make 'em like this, anymore.

Grew up watching Don Knotts and was always a fan. He lived a good life and left behind many memorable works and had earned mine and many others respect .No sad ending here

I absolutely love this movie as a child and still love it today as an adult! He was an amazing actor and no one today, in my opinion, even comes close to the quality of an actor that he became.
My only regret is I wish I would have gotten a chance to meet him before he passed away😢 I'm just glad he was put on this Earth for a short while so that we all could enjoy his films and remember the GREAT person that he was and the AMAZING ACTOR that he became!
    REST IN PEACE SIR
    🇺🇸👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

I LOVED THIS GUY, MR KNOTTS. ONE of a KIND, NEVER BE ANOTHER. SAD TO SEE ALL these GREAT ACTORS GONE, the GARBAGE TODAY is so SAD. WE GOT SPOILED, YOUNG PEOPLE TODAY DON'T MISS WHAT they NEVER KNEW. ALSO VERY SAD.

When I was a kid, my parents took me to see The Ghost & Mr. Chicken. We drove into the nearby big city Stockton, CA and attended the showing at a classic, beautiful Fox Theatre. The ambiance was perfect.

I remember, quite well, seeing this film as a double feature with “ Munster go Home “. Of course I’d gone to see the Munsters, but I come away absolutely loving born films.
It was great seeing the Munsters in colour but “ The Ghost and Mr. Chicken “ was a scene stealer that I thought was the better film.

I remember years ago when I played Scooby Doo Night of 100 Frights on the PS2, Don Knotts did his first and only voice acting job for a video game as the gardener.

I saw Kingpin in the theater, and laughed out loud when that "Atta boy Luther" rang out. It seemed such a ridiculous pull, and it really endeared that movie to me knowing that they saw the same thing I did.

Always one of my Don Knotts favorites! Just watched it around Halloween. Somewhere during that time frame, (I was 8), my Mother was dating a guy who worked at Universal. He knew I loved movies, and gave me several original 35mm film strips cut from the original prints. Each about 6 to 8 frames 🎞️ of this film, and "Astronaut", all wrapped in Universal tissue & envelopes. Along with autographed pics of some of the cast.
Of course at 8, I was space crazy, and positive I'd be living on the moon one day. 🚀🪐
Even at that age, I had good taste, and thought Alma, (Joan Staley), was Beautiful.
Those film strips & pics were prized possessions. Sadly, over the years, they disappeared. Would sure love to have them now.!

this is by far my favorite don knotts film! i was 4 in 1966. the local drive-in posted a placard in the window of the local laundry mat featuring the schedule of the upcoming summer movies soon to play there. the film that caught my eye the most was actually mario bava's blood and black lace. i could tell it was a scary movie, but my sister who was 9 years my senior thought it was a dirty movie. any way there was no way i was going to get to see it. then w-a-y down at the bottom of the poster was the gost and mr chicken. my sister said that i could go see that, but not blood and black lace. keep in mind at 4 i could not yet read. i was just going by the art that accompanied each film. finally the ghost and mr. chicken was playing. my mom, my sister, one of her friends loaded up and to the drive-in we went. it was a very hot night. our car windows were rolled down. nearby there was a station wagon parked and it's windows were also rolled down. the guy in the station wagon laughed and laughed. we would laugh at the antics on the screen and then we would laugh at his laughter. i will admit that some of the scary stuff i actually found to be frightening at the age of 4. there was no way possible that the 4 year old me could have withstood a mario bava horror film! the score made a huge impression upon me. the karate chop that beheaded the mannequin was my most favorite scene. it was probably the most fun i have ever had going to the movies.for a few years it played on nbc pretty often and i watched it every time it aired.

Also, liked the copyright condemnation, with the help of Charlton Heston's, "THE PLANET OF THE APES"!! Good idea, there!! But wasn't the Victorian house you illustrated (for this movie), from Norman Bates', (PSYCHO)?

Infact, one of my favorite related Movie anecdotes was when they were filming 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying' they needed actor who looked like stogie old Businessmen, but could also dance! thus they scoured Hollywood for aging Hoofers from the old 30s & 40s Musicals! One of whom being our Mr. Hartman!
