Unfornately cyber bulling is part of what is happening to our society. It's a part of the many issues that are currently happening in our society. This does not make it ok by any means! What I don't understand is why utube allows this to happen to the creators on their channels. Thank you for this video & informing your viewers of what is going on. I've put some thought into having a channel as I travel across country. And use my platform to raise awareness on another topic. But I really don't know if I could handle these bullies. And I'm pretty tough. Lol

Love your videos and have watched you for years. I've noticed those that attack you are mosty very immature toxic men. They hate that you're a strong woman, and if you block them, they blow a circuit. It's like how dare you, protect yourself and stop their toxicity from being on your channel. One in particular, is obsessed over the fact, that you choose to be by yourself, and are ok with it. Keep being you and doing your thing.
That couple's video actually popped up in my feed yesterday or the day before. Unbelievable & shocking how much they've gone through. Thanks for sharing their message with your own personal experiences.
I remember when the channel, Fathering Autism was reported to children protective services. They actually filmed the social worker coming to their house & addressed what happened in their video. I felt soooooo bad for them. They really emphasized how over worked social workers are & yet a social worker had to come to their house because of a false report.
So sorry you've gone through so much.

I was bullied in my former career. It was a gang of very nasty women who were jealous of my position in the organization. They made up shit about me and got me fired. The union wanted to get rid of the older workers so they didn’t defend me, even though they admitted it was a put up job. Suffice to say I don’t support unions anymore. I was devastated financially. I am 71 and still working. I know all about bullying and so do you Carolyn. Maybe there is something better up the road for us? I protect myself now. I don’t put up with toxic people. I believe half the population in the US is mentally disturbed. Watch your back.

I really don’t understand how someone has time and energy to do that. Sad for them.
A lot of people don't work, have independent income, etc. and have a lot of time to do this $hit. There are SO many channels "against" a more successful UA-camr ... Some people have nothing else in their lives but hate and resentment. They're evil.
They are paid well or given the option to not pay federal income tax regarding their day job (for example). People are addicted to their I-Phones and when it empowers them to murder via harassment and various techniques, it fuels the addiction and they often engage in Class C and D Felony crimes.
Most likely they are adults sitting in their parent's basements without a jobs. They are miserable and want everyone to be miserable with them. "Misery loves company".
Hatemongers. Call them what they are.
I do Believe there are Patriot haters that have too much money that pay people to do things such as this and much more.
I'm a licensed professional counselor with lots of experience in various areas. I have thought about sharing information on UA-cam but for this reason I don't think I ever would. I stopped teaching at a college as an assistant professor online once because I had a bully the last semester and was really too busy anyway and thought, "I don't get paid enough for this bs." Lol Thanks for sharing how ridiculous some people are.

But I have a very unhealthy neighbor who does some of the stuff those folks have experienced and if I posted online I can only imagine what would happen.
I worked with the public for nine years long ago and have never looked at people the same since. People are sick. And dangerous.

You know the weird thing, I sew and sell upcycled clothing on Etsy and the moment a customer says, "I'm your number one customer or I'm going to be your number one customer" I know they are going to be a jerk and I usually end up blocking them. Maybe "number one fan" is code for number one jerk.
A common feature of certain personality disorders is called "splitting" whereby the person either completely idolizes or demonizes another person. So yes, if they express inordinately strong feelings toward you, even if those feelings are positive, consider it a warning.

And if I may offer one piece of advice: Stop watching/looking at what the haters are saying about you. They are NOBODY. They're tiny little losers who have nothing good in their lives so they aim their hatred at you because you're open, authentic and successful; things they could never be.
. YOU are the most interesting thing about them. That's why they do it. I know it's hard, but trust me, nothing they say matters to the people who matter.

I was bullied relentlessly in a new school after drawing the romantic attention of the ex boyfriend of an older girl. She was powerful enough (and feared enough) to rally a group against me. I was physically attacked and terrorized. I'm so sorry that you have dealt with this inexcusable behavior.

Same thing happened to me in junior high and high school. The reason, the boy she liked was paying attention to me.
This is not surprising that these "new to our society" issues with these "new to our society" platforms. We are learning as a society how to behave in virtual society.

Hello from Nova Scotia Canada! It’s January 17 at 6:15pm and I just finished watching your video on bullying. At the end you said it takes about 1000ish positive comments to erase a negative one so I thought I would send some Canadian positivity your way! I am also a 55 year old single woman with a dog and I have been watching your videos for a long time. I think you are an amazing, intelligent, brave woman and I think the way you’re living your life is fabulous. I hope this one comment can go into the positive bank towards the completely unnecessary negative comments you have to endure. I truly think the only way the bullying will stop is if people have to give all of their personal information before the say one word online.
10 years ago I was cyber bullied when trying to sell some of my Mom's musical equipment on Craig's List after she passed away. She was a Popular Singer, Guitar Player, Recording Artist in the 50's and 60's, 'The Mary Kaye Trio' This one guy responded with the most vile, disgusting comments over, over and over again, that he posted on line about my dear mother. I was traumatized for weeks. I had to get my brother involved who searched and located the address of this 'Evil Slimy Troll" and my brother had to threaten him to get him to stop. And needless to stay I had to pull the ad out of shock and fear of more vileness from someone else.
I remember them! Not well, I admit, but it has been a few years, & I was pretty young then. I’m so sorry you had to deal with that. I hope it gives you a little smile to know that someone remembers The Mary Kay Trio.
Wow, Carolyn... I hadn't really ever thought about how much crap a creator had to put up with, but it makes sense that being the person in the videos would bring the Nuts out of the woodwork. It can be hard just being a viewer. Seriously. I usually don't even comment on videos from the creators I really like anymore because of the ridiculous 'replies' I've gotten for just thanking someone for their hard work or making a point about something. Anything. I can't tell you how many times I've replied to the reply with something like 'HOW ON EARTH did you get THAT from what I said?!' lol I am really sorry that you've had to put up with all of that crazy BS. I have never watched any video from one of your detractors, but I #PROMISE I never will. I wish you Peace and Friendly interactions.
I replied to something a few times and the hateful and very weird comments about my reply had me deciding to never reply except here. I feel Carolyn is a powerful and thoughtful woman who scares some people because she speaks her mind.
I have turned off email notifications [of replies to my posts] for that reason. I'm still able to see when the creator responds, which is all I care about anyway.
Right here with you, Carolyn!! There's a huge difference between feeding internet "trolls" and Exposing Criminal Harassment. It may be a little less rabid with some light shone on it. Thank you for addressing this and sharing your story. I was unaware it was this bad. I believe it. As a non-UA-camr/Creator I have had my share of adult bullying, scary situations. Mental illness. Jealousy. If it happens to everyday non-people it definitely happens to others as well, only much worse, unfortunately.
While we may not agree politically, as a fellow RVr and RV sales rep, I find a lot of your content to be helpful. And I have imparted some of your knowledge to my customers.

I watched these folks for years and had wondered what happened. No one should be calling child protective services and stalking your property... This is really sick. In 1970 I was 9 years old and was being bullied by a 15 year old neighbour. One winters morning while waiting for the school bus he started verbally abusing me and others. I ran home and told my father. My father came to the bus stop grabbed the boy by his collar, and proceeded to shove snow in his face. By now the school bus had arrived and everyone on it witnessed this as well as the boys mother. My father told the boy, if you ever bully my daughter or anyone else I will come after you. That boy apologized to me and the other kids. Not only did he make friends with us he also began helping my father do yard work. One less bully teenager turning into an adult bully. If a father did that today he would be charged with assault.
I had two twins bullying me when I was trying to learn to ice skate…they pushed me down…then I fell backwards on one of them and they broke their leg. No more bullying after that. :-)
I just saw this video as I am somewhat new to your channel. I think your openness, honesty and yes bluntness is refreshing. I am currently researching my future life on the road. I have always been somewhat a hermit and I tend to have no filter between my brain and my mouth. The Internet is obviously corrosive due to the, well we know. But to think that corrosion has infiltrated your channel when you have provided so much information to those of us wishing to try the roads ourselves is beyond disturbing. Trolls are dangerous, including those who think it is just for fun, as the pranks, decisiveness and bullying attracts the true psycho. All social media platforms should be on the lookout for this type of behavior to keep content creators and their subscribers safe. Please keep creating and sharing. You have truly been a huge help to me and, I'm sure, so many others.
I have so much empathy for youtubers who have to deal with the bullying. I have seen some of my favorite youtubers give up their channels because if it. One of my favorite people on youtube committed suicide in 2021 and bullying was a huge part of that. It should be a criminal offence. There is a guy with a channel in Canada who loves to pick on you specifically and I happened to see a couple of videos. I wanted to lash out with comments, but chose not to because I knew that would add to the crazy. OMG Carolyn, my heart hurts for you. I am glad you are addressing this. Brave and neccessary. Carolyn, thank you for sharing this! I had no idea people were so mentally ill to go this far. How shocking. I'm sorry they went as far as to try to harm you when your Capone died. I admired the way you took care of him and he was very happy in your rv life explorations. I watched a bit of their video. How shocking that people have nothing better to do than obsess & destroy them. They're just evil! As an older woman, I'm dismayed that our world has these bullies and my grandchildren are growing up with this. You are so right, they are narcissistic sociopaths. Take care, I appreciate you❤️

I've been thinking about doing a channel too because I've recently hit the road in New Zealand with my dog, but now I'm not so sure. As a YT supporter, I find it to be my obligation to not support channels or others that participate in such bullying. By watching bullies, we are supporting such horrible trolls.

There's a couple I enjoy watching on UA-cam called "Squirmy and Grubs" who get all kinds of harrassment on their channel. There are always well-meaning folks who interact with the trolls and stand up for the creators, but I know it's a waste of time on their part. I have often longed to be able to counteract these bullies, and now thanks to you making this particular video, I have learned that I can do something to help!!! Thanks so much for helping me to feel powerful!!
Part of the reason I never started a channel. I thought you were pretty brave. I'm on the road alone too and safety is my first priority. There are some seriously messed up people out here that need to find a life. Stay safe! Stay real. :)
I am so sorry you bring so much joy into my life and others. Mental people are very hard to deal with to the point of danger. I just want you to know you’re an awesome person. I found those little dots and I pushed it and I saw the words report. That gave us a tool or we can use to defend you or anybody out there. I’m from Texas, so some people don’t understand why we carry guns and that we have permits to have them on us but until the world changes, we have to learn to take the steps to protect ourselves.
Maybe it's hard for you to deal with because of lack of education on mental illness. Yes...there are no open wounds or physical attributes to see. You also are generalizing. It's like a type of Bullying of words towards certain groups of people....no single person is perfect....not even yourself. I have been watching your channel for years. You give the absolute best information about van life. As an a older solo female camper, I find your videos very helpful. It's sad that there are MI people that use you as their way of feeling a purpose in life.
I find this particular video very insightful. I was a behavioral health counselor in the military for many years. This makes me extremely cautious when interacting with others in any manner. I agree, we should not have to live this way. Holding others accountable can be exhausting, and I applaud you for trying to get others to understand the damage negativity can bring.

Thank you Carolyn, I was cyber bullied and got death threats for a YEAR because of one paranoid, insecure narcissist imagining I rejected them. Fight back, that is the only way to end it. They eventually show their true colors to their Flying Monkeys but it can really mess with your life in a very negative way, even cause suicides. It's no joking matter. If you see anyone cyber bullying anyone, ask all the right questions and do the right thing. Some people are just so unhappy the only thing that makes them happier is to take down everyone else.
If youtube is so into censoring then why don't they censor this type of thing. They simply are not a honorable institution/company!!!

You’ve had to suffer any of this uncalled for behavior. Internet and social media is a great thing but like anything else you can take a hammer and build a house or you can hurt somebody. As a recipient of extreme bullying - it’s a long road to past the C-PTSD episodes. Course I’m a slow one. But I do know talking to people and watching yourself so you don’t become a bully helps.

(on a much smaller scale- of course) I got so tired of people saying: just ignore them, turn the other cheek, Red. and people calling them “trolls” 😡 When someone makes a video about you, to bash you on their channel that is NOT a TROLL it’s a BULLY! And I had people I thought were my friends side with this person and think it’s OK for him to do a video bashing me -it got him watch time and he got monetized! The video he did bashing me is his most viewed live! I had to threaten this bully with a lawsuit to get him and his minions to stop. I am so glad you addressed this! YOU ROCK!

The vanlife community on youtube lost a beautiful creator. She lost her battle with mental health and was relentlessly bullied by a dude on youtube for a year before that happened. She was battling hate from his viewers on her channel, her friends still speak about her with such love, it's so tragic. His bullying was evil and she was already battling so hard. #speakupforlee
I knew of Lee’s struggles well. She didn’t experience depression until after her and Max started their UA-cam. I think her youth worked against her in someways. Carolyn has been through a lot and has learned life’s hacks to survive and thrive.
I was thinking of lea all through this video. She was such a sweet spirit and loved and was loved by many. I was sick over it for months.
The internet is so lacking in regulations at a dangerous level for creators and viewers. We subject ourselves as viewers to so much misinformation and propaganda against people and organizations. It is a crime and needs to be corrected. There is so much Good on the internet it just needs some sort of regulation.

@DesignGeek Tips Max and Lee was her first channel, after they broke up she started Life with Lee. Not sure if you follow Eamon and Bec, they talk about her all the time. She was also good friends with Vanwives. Edit: #speakupforlee will bring her up, her friends started a campaign after she passed away.
I totally respect you for continuing to be a creator despite all the bullying. I rarely even comment on anything because of the bullying.

I understand. I’ve got a mentally sick fan who said I was his idol, now stalking and threatening me. UA-cam creators take a lot. You are strong. So am I. It still stings when we get slammed. We create free content. Crazy sick people out there.

I do advocacy work in the TBI world (sustained one in 2014) and I have received horrible treatment by some TBI folks who say i'm a fraud, and I am praying on victims (by selling my book for $15), and even a few death threats. One reported me to the brain injury association for running a fraudulent non profit (i've never once claimed to have a non profit) ... fortunately the BIA knows me and told her she was mistaken. Having a TBI adds a whole other level of intensity to bullies ... but it doesn't make it any easier. Like you said, mean comments are easy to deal with, it's the repetitive bullying by the same few folks that is the hardest to deal with.
I can tell you exactly what you've done to 'deserve' this bullying - you're a smart, strong and successful woman who isn't afraid to speak her mind. In this messed up world many can't handle that. Keep fighting the good fight. 💪 What a cess pit the internet can be.

I'm also 55 and one thing I've noticed looking back on my life is that it doesn't matter where I worked, what level I was at, or anything else about a job - there was always that one person who was crazy obsessed with me in a very negative way. Just like you say, it's to the point of delusion. I'm not sure if this is something everyone has to deal with or not. I can't imagine the stress of having a group of them targeting you in your personal life. I hope this problem gets resolved for you.
Thanks Carolyn for another great video and bringing attention on a horribly negative issue. Diane's Tarot handled this beautifully. She warned everyone saying, "Any negative comments or bullying would be automatically reported to UA-cam." Their channel would then be closed per UA-cam community rules. She gave not an inch. Also, this won't solve the full spectrum of horrible things people are doing. Because of this kind of crap I am reluctant to share my gifts on youtube and that is just sad. Thanks again you are inspiration.

As a fan that grieved the loss of your furry friends with you I'm shocked that anyone could be so mean. I have lost 2 of my adult sons this year and if anyone said that to me about being better off I would have just sunk even lower. The baser sides of human nature and the frustrations of the populace have been exploited and perpetuated politically, and its noxious effects are far-reaching. Yes, bullies will bully because they can, and it should not be tolerated! Reason is not effective against an angry mob full of suspicion and even clinical paranoia. It feels like we have regressed as a species and as a culture! You are courageous, and I will follow the guidance you’ve provided in this video to help neutralize the effects of the malignant hate to which you and others who have a social platform have been subjected.
Hi Carolyn, I have watched you for years and I have witnessed the abuse too. In fact, it has scared me from being a woman alone in an RV on the road in a large part. I only go on short trips and never alone myself. But that's just me, especially as mental illness and violence has increased with the pandemic and the encroaching climate crisis which our society is still largely unaware of. In short, I applaud your bravery and I applaud you saying what you have said here. Our society is defacto condoning bullying in so many ways. We also have a tendency for victim blaming and shaming rather than going after the perps. This is a long standing tribal level social reality that goes back to the clan of the cave days (reference intended). I always report every abuse of your channel I have ever seen. I also report abuse I see anywhere asap.
However, most places in society whether IRL at your job, or online at your job, have no mechanism to really deal with abusers who know how to walk the line and even profit off of this pain and grief they cause. This is the essence of the Shock Doctrine (book by Naomi Klein on Disaster Capitalism). Our society is set up to obey the profit motive and do what it takes to be number one, even if it hurts others and the environment. This is wrong and should be unacceptable to all of us. I love your repeated question here of everyone as to "why are we accepting this?" We have lost our way ethically, period on a page, if we accept this.
Finally, I am also concerned that UA-cam (YT) for example, does not do much when you report abuses. They rarely actually remove these videos. I think we should support a better funded "reviewer" panel for the YT reported videos to get more review, and for them to be active in responding to these videos. YT needs to get on this. But we as users need to demand that they do as well. They need an entire department of "reviewers" looking at this all the time. Obscenity, bullying and slander are not protected speech. It's time we as a society act like we know that and go back to America's roots which was always about truth and justice but especially for the little guy. Right now it's a free for all. And everyone is suffering. I get bullied at work in my real life job every day. It's how our society works. And I hate to say it, but especially for women who are not in positions of power or have little money. Let's stand together! I stand with you! Stay strong!

I received a recommendation to watch a video which turned into a "I Hate Carolyn" tirade. He has video after video of all the ways we should hate Carolyn. I was so surprised to see that someone would care so much about an American woman rolling around the USA in a RV with a dog that he would spend so much time on this. I then realized he was making money off of the hatred. The best thing to do is not click on his videos.
Pretty sure I know who you are talking about. Hate only harms the hater. I truly believe this. Yes, he's profiting financially, but he's selling his soul.

I just went through harassment issues. I had to file a police report and went to the courthouse in front of a judge to get a harassment injunction and then then serve the harasser. So now if he contacts me in any way a warrant will be issued out against him and he can go to jail for 6 months and 2500.00 fine. i had to deactivate my facebook account, turn off my comments on my channel. It was a complete nightmare! Constant nonstop harassment day and night! He made fake profiles of me, attacked my nonprofit organization.

I've often thought about starting a channel on my move across country in Sept and using the platform to support a cause. Though I don't know if I could handle these UA-cam BULLIES.
I'm pretty tough,, like Carolyn. But reading day after day insults that are pointed at yourself has to be incredibly hurtful. We are made of flesh and blood. We're human.
for me, if a vid / content creator upsets me or I disagree with the content, I just don't watch them, use the 3 dots to 'not recommend channel' and I am good, on to watching others that align with my views, after all, it is entertainment or informative and we can make our own choice to watch or not. Just move on peeps and start creating your own if you think it is so easy!!! blessings n safe travels always!

This is great show with context that needs to be heard and I report things on a daily basis, I watch politics and those people get seriously harassed, especially the ones on the left. It's best to remember that golden rule of "If you can't say something nice then don't say anything at all". I've never messed with a youtube provider but I've called out people putting out hateful clips. We're all human but I've noticed over the last few years that a large group of our population is not mentally well and if anything it proves we need socialized health care where every person is insured and can get the care they need. ❤❤❤

As I was watching this one, my immediate first impulse was to reach out to these dingbats and do what I am quite effective at on other discussion boards...'return the favor'. However, as you've requested, I'll hold my tongue and not engage them, even though I feel strongly that a bully...needs to be bullied in order to end his bullying. This is so sad. We have been watching this also play out with the duke and duchess of Sussex, and people still deny it’s bullying and have labelled them as cry babies. I always have admired “nomads” for being courageous and living their true selves. Why anyone would have a problem with you is beyond me. Keep being an inspiration!
Yes! While I was listening to Carolyn describe some of the various aspects of bullying I couldn't help but think of the Harry & Meghan. I don't know them (obviously) or if everything they've said is true or not, but the mean, nasty comments about them are over the top. And just like with Carolyn, there doesn't seem to be an actual reason people hate them so much. I'm been watching Carolyn's channel for a while now and didn't realize she (and apparently others) have this type of bullying going on. I admire her for hanging in there. I sold my van 6 months ago but still like following some of the full-time RVers, they're like family.
I quit watching a guy who put you down years ago. I quit watching him because I started watch you, I could not see the crap he was selling. After so long I subscribed to you. This is something I learned in gaming. People hide behind an electronic device and have zero fear of consequences and allow themselves to take their suffering out onto people who don't deserve it. I've seen my daughters Facebook have the same crap going on. It's beyond cruel and stupidity. One thing you can try is a cease and desist letter which will lead to a lawsuit if not stopped kind of thing. It's one legal action I know of anyway. I had to go to the extreme of getting a restraining order against a lady I used to work with so I truly understand. I did absolutely nothing to this person. Nothing. She ran off several girls before me so I did my best to ensure another person would not go through what I went through. It's not okay, you're right. I don't understand it but it is why I don't pvp in games anymore. I plan to be in my van this time next year but I don't plan to have a channel for this reason. I’ve been through the same and I only have 500 subs. I confronted a cyberbully and inadvertently started a harassment campaign that goes on to this day. My head and heart hurt and UA-cam will do nothing but gaslight me and deny and protect the bullies. It’s a group of insane people.
I’m grateful that you actually made this video. UA-cam has to be exposed because I can see how this comment would even trigger you, based on my own experience. It’s insidious and never ending. It’s time to put an end to it.
