- Hey this is an awesome song, my first REAL taste of the Haggis was at a Barbecue place in Raleigh North Carolina (That didn't serve food, much less Barbecue). I sat on some unhooked monitors to the right of the stage. it was an amazing performance, but there's not a good copy of Lanigan's ball on you tube that I've found so I made one myself. Not much but, gets the sound out. hope you enjoy!
Saw them on PBS in the middle of the night when I couldn’t sleep over 20 years ago I think. Been a fan ever since.
The love of my life introduced me to this song. She ripped my heart to shreds, but I still love the Haggis.
Wont you sing to me, the perfect song?
I first heard ETH on my local PBS station here in Cleveland several years ago, and nearly fell out of my chair when I heard them. I wrote and told them so and they were gracious enough to actually write back and thank me for my nice comments. What a great bunch of very talented and humble young men. I wish them every future success!
I've been a fiddle player for most of my life...
You guys are amazing!!!
A friend and I covered your version of Lanigan's Ball, this weekend as part of an Irish Session for a St. Patrick's Day Celebration.
Just wanted to leave some love here!! Thanks!!!
Seriously, why are these guys not more well known than, like, Lady Gaga
Last night I was cooking at a friend's house and this song came on and we broke out dancing. I passed out afterward but it was worth it :)
What we need is a festival for these bamds. ETH, Tempest, The Young Dubliners, The Bible Code Sundays, The Kildares... Maybe, in a perfect world, Horslips.I'm sure there are more. It would be like a dream show.
If you can get to Missoula, Montana by Friday we are about to have our annual Celtic Festival! A two day festival of everything Celtic. In years past we've had The Fighting Jamesons, Dropkick Murphys, and many others (actually, Dropkick Murphy's are coming on September 26th to Missoula!). This year we have the Gothard Sisters again as well as Enter the Haggis and The Young Dubliners are headlining! Oh, and did I mention this is a free festival? Of course, donations are appreciated :P
Thanks for the heads up. Shoulda known this was already covered. Unfortunately my vacation is 3 weeks away. But I'll keep an eye out in the future.
Don't forget about flogging molly and dropkick murphy
+greg raines I first found these guys at Summerfolk in 2004. Much smaller, and for a very different crowd, but still great.
Coming up, November 19th 2016, this band is headlining a Celtic music festival in Dunedin, Fl. Full lineup includes Seven Nations, Off Kilter, Screaming Orphans, and Enter the Haggis along with local pipe bands. I would not be surprised if the Fighting Jamesons make it down as well, since they have family in the area and they've played this event the past 3/4 years.
What I love about the fiddle playing is that it's so dirty and still ornamented like hell. It brings up shades of Ashley Macisaac. There are a good number of bands that have covered this song, including most notably Fiddler's Green....and I like both the ETH version and the (much cleaner) FG version, for totally different reasons. I'll probably learn the song from the FG version, but I aspire to eventually sound like this.
This is awesome!
I got to see these guys back in like 2001 and i was the annoying fan that lept asking for this song. Of course the band knew this was s great tune and played it as an encoure. SLIANTE!!
cool to hear a bunch of versions of classic Irish folk tunes like this one.
saw thm live a few yrs back at the highland fest, in oakland,md. they were awesome and introduced me to celtic music!!!love them.
God, I still kick myself all the time that I didn't go see them when they were playing here at the Copper Rocket. I sincerely hope they make it back down to Florida soon!
They are doing Central FL Highland Games in Winter Springs in January 2018. First saw them when Brian was about 19 or 20 yrs ago. Super talented and adorable too
it is also on the first live album, i believe called Live! It is the second song after Hava Nagila/Scotland the Brave.
Fortunately, when I met mine the best way to describe my heart was as a bucket of broken glass. Not a hell of alot she can do to it. Damn good song.
This song... 💓
Just saw them tonight in Utica NY at Saranac Thursdays outdoor venue. High Energy Show. I love this band very much...
It's from the "Aerials" album, available on their website.
Fav song or one of them. Wish I could find my pics of them when Brian was 19 or 20 but think they got saved to a floppy disc back then.. bummer..
Someone introduced me to this song, and now I think the exact same thing! :)
absolutely stunning
I'll be seeing them next weekend for the 2nd time! Soooo excited :D!
OMG LOVE ETH!!!
the intro is really cool....awesome song!!!!!
The radio show "Toss The Feathers" plays them. The show is on Saturdays online at wcbe.org.
It's from Aeralis, though that's pretty hard to get. They also have it on their PBS special, Lanigans Ball (hence the name)
this song always makes me hungry.
An addicting version *-*
@cmagjdillaquint This is off one of their earliest albums, called "Aerials." It is a bit tricky to find... but it's out there.
Go see them in concert!!! You can thank me later!!
Great stuff, thanks for putting it up.
The only time I've ever heard it called Flannigans ball is on the Dropkick Murphy's Album where it was (F)lannigan's ball. Otherwise I've always seen it spelle "Lanigan's"
I like the other version of this better....but the part at 1:53 or so is awesome.
@phantomofthegeckos Thanks for the tip. I'll start checking all the pubs first.
They're Scottish Canadian. I think only one member was born in Scotland. Great music.
they used to live in Cape Breton but now say they are from Toronto
My wife hates when im concintly yelling out hey!!
One of my favorites!!
i think i have a new favorite band... :o
IM A LANIGAN! GO ON DA LANIGANS!
@hanitiakeys831 The physical CD itself is nearly impossible to get, yeah. The digital download you can get on their website of course, but the CD, nope. Impossible.
@gaelicwolf I'm working on gettin' them to Knoxville, lol.
Interesting version. In spirit and tempo, the closest to the version I'm looking for, that I can find.
Anyone know where I might find tinker's damn playing it? I THINK they're the same tinker's damn with some videos posted, but maybe not...... I originally remember it from a tape (either their homebrew, or a bootleg) with a bunch of other songs I'd like too. But I don't know the tapes name, or if it had one.....
These guys are DA SHIT!
nice
Does anyone know where I can download this exact version? It's my all-time favorite. Can't find it online.
What album is this on? cant find it on I-tunes
Picture doesn't CHANGE?! I WANT MY MONEY BACK.
wish i could get some Irish girls to talk with.. im South-African, but i LOVE anything Irish.. Wish i was born on a different continent.. lol
Old comment, but I get the feel! I'm American with no Irish heritage as far as I know (a bit of Welsh, though) and I love the culture!
Aerials, I mean. typo.
Lets Jst Saay Irish Is Daa Best Place Ny1 Cud Ever B :)
am I the only one who thinks Enter The Haggis looks like a Canadian Linkin Park?
