“I’ll Fly Away” Mandolin Tutorial w/Tabs

- Taking a look at the gospel/folk tune “I’ll Fly Away” arranged for mandolin. Of course, it’s tailor made for the eight stringer. Here, we’ll look first at the basic melody and then at ways to embellish it with double stops and chords. On the COMANDOLIN Studio patreon page we’ll explore one more way to play the tune an octave up the neck with different chord voicings. This is my first video with my own tabs/music and I’m excited to bring this new tool to the channel! You can get a PDF of the tabs on my Patreon page :)

Great! My Grandmother sang that on her porch for a couple months before her death, so I'll learn it but NOT sing it!
Sing it with your fingers :)
Can you do. The mountain by Steve earl. It making me crazy that I can't figure out. Please friend. . You've always helped me figure things out .
Let me check it out and see what can be whipped up :)
@COMANDOLIN your awesome. It appears to be pretty easy. I truly appreciate you sharing one of your talents. I'd still be playing nothing but rise if didn't find your channel. Your good guy, good teacher and I think of you as friend even though we never met.
@@pablo6305 - It doesn’t sound too tough. I should be able to get at the very least the main melody done with the tab play along like I did the “Move It On Over” up within a few days. Hey, I appreciate the kind words - if I was closer, I’d be happy to split a pitcher with you :)
@@pablo6305 - Hey bud, I’ve a good gist of the thing. Are you on either the Patreon or the Facebook page? I can make a quick video and it’s much easier to either send it to you or post it there. Find me on Facebook at least and I’ll have something very soon.
In the meantime, it’s all D, B minor and E minor with an occasional A thrown in. The entire melody is in the basic D major scale. Play the scale along with the song and you’ll hear it in there. Use -
D string: Open, 2nd fret,4th fret, 5th fret
A string: Open, 2nd fret, 4th fret, 5th fret
Play those notes along with the song and any of the will sound great and the melody is in those notes. Again, find COMANDOLIN on Facebook and I’ll have something up shortly :)
Here’s the basic progressions -
Verse:
D,Bm,D, Em,G,Bm,A
Chorus:
D,Bm,D,Em,G,A
D,Bm,D,Em,G,D
Notice the only difference in the chorus is the last chord. First time through,it’s A and D the second time.
Hope this helps :)
